A Kaleidoscope of Butterflies Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 862 ratings

The last thing Emerson Rose expects is to fall for his best friend, Rhys, especially since he’s never been attracted to a man before. Everything in his life is already complicated enough. He’s put his own future on hold to raise his two younger siblings, and confusing feelings for the guy who always has his back muddy the waters even more. But then something astonishing happens. For one perfect moment, he thinks Rhys might feel the same—only to have his world come crashing down around him a second time.

Rhys Lancaster has always known he’s gay and that Emerson isn’t. Best friends since childhood, their easy companionship has usually been enough. Between his job, his adrenaline-filled adventures, and hanging out with Emerson and his siblings, he has it good…until he wakes up in the hospital with no memories of the last year of his life.

Like they normally do when things go horribly wrong, Rhys and Emerson support each other. Frustrated by all he’s lost, Rhys stays with Emerson during his recovery, and Emerson helps Rhys through the fog, while pushing those other feelings aside. To make matters worse, Rhys knows Emerson’s keeping something from him. Everything feels different now when he looks at Emerson, and as they fall into a comfortable routine, that aching desire doesn’t stay buried for long.

But Emerson has a family to raise, and Rhys is struggling to figure out what’s going on inside his head. Unless they can push past the doubts and fears to seal that connection between them again, this tragedy might become the one each has to weather alone.

I have to say I liked this book better than I thought I might... I had my doubts as I was in fear that sex was going to happen to early in the story.. I prefer a build up & back story to quick. I got my wish. I enjoyed the interaction of not only the 2 main’s but the kids and other side players added to everything.

This was such a heartfelt and beautiful story. Often times I avoid romances where someone has to take care of kids, they’re just usual not my thing but this one was written with so much heart and Audra and Sam added so much to the story. I loved the deep friendship and love that really had always been there between Em and Rhys and them finally being able to explore it. It was certainly a slow burn but a very rich and beautiful story.

It’s well written gay trauma porn, but that is what it is. Hundreds of pages of sadness, trauma, self-loathing and insecurity, followed by a 20 pages of tidy wrap up to make a happy ending. This is probably the book that convinces me to give up the genre and stop searching for a genuinely positive gay story.

A Kaleidoscope of Butterflies by Christina Lee is the beautifully written story of two best friends that just when their friendship is about to develop into more is derailed by an accident.

There was so much to love about this book. The feelings of longing and love are captured beautifully. The flow of the story is seamless, and it is impossible not to fall in love with all the characters.

    It had:

    -Dual POVs
    -Bi awakening
    -Demi rep
    -Found family
    -Memory loss
    -Best friends to lovers
    -UST

    And the ending was heartfelt.

A Kaleidoscope of Butterflies may be my favorite book of Lee's to date.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.

I have to admit the extended prologue through me off a bit and perhaps could have been told differently, but it was still a great love story. I've read others by this author and they were written a bit better.

Wow. Totally speachless. Undeniably in love with Emerson and Rhys!

This whole book was like living through someone elses life. From right back to when they were children you felt like you went through it all with them. From the fun of their friendship to the lows of life itself. They went through everything together. And that was the main feeling this book gave me. A life lived. I felt everything they did. They quite often broke my heart along the way but the overwhelming feeling this book left me with was hope and love.

Emerson was so bloody sweet and unsure of himself i just wanted to wrap him in a great big hug! So selfless and caring i just loved him! Although he went through a lot there was this innocence about him that just made you go "awwwwww" 😍

Then you have Rhys. Who was obviously the more confident one in the friendship. He was just brave and daring but also pretty sensitive which i think was the connection that held their friendship together all those years. I really felt his fears about the relationship changing with Emerson and i loved how he managed to get over them in order to make something happen that would make them both happy.

The two of them together put a fair few tears in my eyes. The releasing of the butterflies scene certainly did! But more than anything they put a great big sappy smile on my face.

The loving scenes were not only sweet and intimate but HOTT as all the things too! I absolutely loved them!

It was such a great book and extremely well written. Loved the storyline, the slow burn was felt all the way through. It built and built and was so bloody satisfying at the conclusion i still feel a little teary and sappy right now writing this review! It's just one of those books that make you really happy. That makes you feel like thats exactly what true love is like. I just wanna hold it close to my chest and smile. Don't get me wrong, its not all plain sailing but by the end It's a smiley book! I loved it and know 100% i will be rereading this time and again.

    Just Brilliant!

So, so good. Best friends with so much trauma to wade through at such a young age. Christina knows how to weave a beautiful story that is more than just a romance. The emotions just jumped from the page. Real life issues abound. A hard road to Rhys and Emmerson's happy ever after.

What a lovely story this was, not to mention educational: I honestly had no clue a group of butterflies was a kaleidoscope, let alone a group of ladybugs being a loveliness (oh my heart 🥰)!

Emerson and Rhys were wonderful, I love single dad stories, which this sort of was, I love best friend, gfy, stories, which this also pretty much was. I liked the connections with the kids, Rhys’s mum and I realllly liked that Rhys didn’t get his memory back, I hate cliché storyline’s like that.

This story just worked for me in the sweetest way!!

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This is a best friends to lovers story. Emerson and Rhys had been best friends most of their lives and had always been there for each other. When tragedy shatters Emerson’s family and his parents are killed in a car accident he doesn’t hesitate to put his dreams of college and nursing on hold to bring up his much younger siblings and Rhys is there to help him out.

Rhys is an out and proud gay man and Emerson had thought that he was straight but he started to view Rhys in a different way and came to the conclusion that he was actually Demi but just when they acknowledged their feelings for each other Rhys was involved in a terrible accident which wiped out the last year of his memory! The best friends to lovers transition was sensitively written and the other characters in the book were really likeable, you got a sense of a real family and Audrey and Sam appreciated everything their older brother did to keep them all together and loved.

I loved young Sam’s analogy of the two butterflies and their parents and I cried with them.
