The Chemistry of Levi (The Killers Next Generation) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,518 ratings

From USA Today Bestselling Author Brynne Asher…

Life and death … they have a way of tainting fairy tales in the ugliest way.

You know the sugary-sweet romances where the new girl moves to a small town, falls in love with the most popular guy in school, and they live happily ever after?

I wish my story were that simple.

Levi Hollingsworth is the most popular guy in school. He’s stoic, mysterious, and aloof. A man among boys. He claims attention wherever he goes, whether he wants it or not. And he doesn’t want it.

The broody grump wants nothing to do with anyone. Especially me—the new girl who’s failing chemistry.

And Levi is my new tutor.

Little does he know, my grades are the least of my problems. Being forced to move to Virginia has everything to do with dirty politics, sex scandals, and cold cases.

I already thought my life was complicated when I landed in the commonwealth and was forced to live with my horrid grandmother.

But when the guy wants the girl, he’ll do everything to make her his.

I just hope I don’t take Levi down with me.

Review

The Killers meets War Games meets 16 Candles meets All The Right Moves ... perfection! - Gretchen A, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

From start to finish, this was pure, undiluted romance! All the stars for Carissa and Levi! - Leslee, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

There were times my heart broke, times it melted, times I literally laughed out loud, and times I cheered. I can still feel the love these characters have for each other deep down in my soul (not just between Levi & Carissa either). - CinLou Loves Romance, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

BA does a great job of creating the visuals and helping readers connect with the characters. This group of unlikely friends though, wow! It had a Breakfast Club feel with intrigue and intensity mixed throughout the book. Hoping to see future releases revolving around these friends! - Stacey, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

Just when you think it couldn't possibly happen, Brynne Asher strikes gold...yet again. - Carole, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

In true Brynne Asher fashion, she made one hot AF young alpha going headfirst after what he wanted and not letting anything get in his way. - Penny, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

Levi has to be one of my top reads of the year. - Heather, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

This is one of my top reads for the year. - George, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

...sit back, strap yourself in and go for it, you won't be disappointed. - Stephanie, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

I LOVED reading some of the scenes (from Gifts) from a different point of view. The story itself was intense and fast paced, and had some serious curve balls thrown in. - Niki Reads Romance, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

There is nothing I love more than a hero who knows what he wants and doesn't hesitate to make a move. No fear, no playing games. Just intensity, protectiveness and the word mine. I loved it! - Mindy Lou's Book Reviews, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

Another winner for Ms. Asher and I will definitely be reading more. - Janie, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

Be prepared for the usual BA novel full of humor, banter, spice, action, and angst! - Amanda, Goodreads Reviewer ★★★★★

LOVE everything about this book
I just LOVE spin off books that are of the kids from the main series! It is by far one of my favorite to read. @brynneasher did not disappoint with Levi. If you haven’t read the Killers series, specifically book 3 Gifts, it is a mush read series. Levi is the son of Asa in Gifts. You get a little bit of Levi and Carissa in that book. I was super happy to see they got their own book as I was wondering more about them. And boyyyy did they have a story!! I loved everything about this book and I am so happy I found a new author that I love. Thank you @amazonkindle for showing me an ad on my kindle for Vines (The Killers book 1.)! ———————————————- 5️⃣🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 10/10 recommend‼️

A cross between Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller with way better romance!!

It's pretty well known I don't read much NA Romance, but that didn't stop me from cracking open Brynne Asher's brand new Next Generation follow up to her Killers series Levi, and I'm SO glad I gave it a chance!!

Levie is Asa Hollingsworth's son from Brynne's Killer's Book Hifts, and it a gorgeous reunification of the characters that starts before Gifts, continues during, and follows after, and I loved getting to see it from Levi and Carissa Collins point of view.

Levi is the epitome of his father - broody, handsome, and it seems far too serious for a high school senior with the whole world in the palm of his hand. But Levi has reasons for the way he is, and the book does a really good deep dive to show what we hadn't seen before (so if you haven't read GIFTS yet, you're ok starting at Levi!) When he gets stuck with his new tutoring student, and she suggest some things that are not within the guidelines he's ready to throw the whole study period out, except he still needs the hours for his volunteer time!

Carissa Collins is new to the Commonwealth, and definitely doesnt want to be there. She's just shy of failing several classes when back in Arizona she was getting ready to graduate a semester early. The last thing she wants, or NEEDS, is a chemistry tutor when she has to be at her brothers back for everything. After all, no one else is helping Cade and if she's not helping take care of him her crazy grandmother definitely won't do things right!

When Carissa finds out Levi is her new tutor all she can think about is the embarrassment of him, or anyone else in school, knowing she's failing - and what color his eyes might really be. After all the grumpy upper classman just sort of floats through the hallways as though he's untouchable, and maybe invisible.

When Carissa and Cade start really trying to find out where their mother has disappeared to, and why no one will tell them, Levi has already found himself way more interested in Carissa than he should be. He has a plan, stick to the plan - grades, lacrosse, graduate, get the eff out! But by then it's not just Levi anymore.

The Homies - Jack, Mason, Cade, Carissa - and when he's not ignoring everyone except Carissa - Levi, are hilarious!!

"He shakes his head. “If I skip class, they’ll call my dad, my mom, every emergency contact on the list, and probably my dog—if I had one. I’m not stupid. I’ll get Jack to call in to excuse me. He’s basically a professional.”

There are so many situations they find themselves in that most teens would bobble, but Levi always has a calm and competent answer. And if he doesn't Cade is hot on his heels with a computer to break into, it's a rollicking good time!

The elements of romantic suspense were enough to keep me breathing hard, and making sure I didn't miss a single word from Ch 28 on! Between the Hollingsworths and the Collins family there's enough drama to warrant their own Oscar, and some of it is downright scary. I was so glad things with the grandmother turned the right way, because Carissa and Cade absolutely had to have someone besides The Homies and The Killers in their corner!!

Five out of Five stars for Levi!! Brynne Asher's love for Carissa and Levi comes storming across the page, and this book is so much fun it's easy to forget that I don't always love NA Romance and this is one everyone will definitely enjoy!!

    FMC: Carissa Collins
MMC: Levi Hollingsworth, Asa’s (from Gifts) son
    Spice: 🌶️🌶️
    Pages: 400
Tropes: High school Romance, Soulmates, He’s her Tutor, Romantic Suspense, Virgin Heroine, New Adult Romance
    Setting: Virginia

Thoughts: I’m not usually one to pick up a high school romance, but since this followed the same time line as Gifts, I decided to give it a try. It was surprisingly good and I attribute that to both Levi and Carissa not being typical teenagers. They were both old souls trapped in teen bodies and their connection felt authentic and much deeper than a teen romance.

I felt like Levi was very much his father’s son. He knew what he wanted and went after it. He didn’t care what other people thought or if society would say he was too young. He was smart and driven. He didn’t let his hormones drive him. And he had a close knit group of friends who he could trust.

Carissa was finding her way. Her whole world had been flipped upside down and all she wanted to do was graduate high school early and make sure her twin was happy. She and Levi made a great pair. They had similar trust issues and that brought them closer together. Neither was looking for anything other than to make it through high school alive, but they found their soulmate at the most inconvenient time.

This starts off as the normal new quiet girl-popular jock story, but ends up with a much more adult storyline. The story and style reminded me a lot of Tijan books, especially Fallen Crest series. If you love those books, you’ll love this one too. It’s well written and edited (thank you). Carissa and Levi make a great couple and he’s a fantastic book boyfriend. Cade, Jack, and Mason round out the Homies group for humor and loyalty. A little mean girl angst but it’s not a major component in the book. Considering Levi is a star lacrosse player, there is zero sports in the book, so this is not a sports romance at all. No locker room chat, no game play, no cheerleader or fan drama, etc. 99% is set in high school and we completely skip over any college experience. Levi is assigned to tutor Carissa in chemistry when she moves into a new school and starts failing classes. They fall for each other very quickly. The drama comes from their disapproving, interfering parents (her dad is U S Senator embroiled in scandals while his is a retired assassin). Not your typical parents lol! No plot spoilers here but there are plenty of plot twists and some suspense to add a different element to the story.

While this story is absolutely a stand alone and can be enjoyed as such, I highly recommend reading Gifts first. Gifts is the story of Levi's dad, Asa, finding his own HEA. The Killers series is a top favorite of mine. 😁

Now, on to this story! It's full of humor and intrigue, friendship and family, choices and above all love. Carissa & Levi have an instant connection that builds quite steadily throughout their story. The love & support they give each other as life gets a bit intense is so well written, too!

I also love the supporting characters - the Homies, Cade, Mason, Jack - as they give the story a large dose of humor and even more intrigue. There's also Louise, who we come to love so very much! And the mysteries that unfold... whew!

There's so much I want to say, but anything more feels spoilery and I'd much rather you discover it all yourselves. Definitely, definitely discover this story and these characters. Fall in love!!

I have read all The Killers books and couldn't wait to read Levi. It didn't disappoint. I loved reading the story Levi and Carissa, it was beautiful. Having a teenage son that had a similar experience to the character Levi in his sophomore year, I could really relate. I've only ever cried in two books and this is one. Loved meeting up with old characters from The Killers series and meeting Jack, Mason, Cade and Louise. Thank you Brynne Asher, as this book has a bit of everything. I don't want to spoil it for other readers but Asa Hollingsworth sums up having kids in one sentence "They'll always be three in your heart." that one sentence, (minus a word) made me cry! I'd give this book 10 stars if I could. I absolutely loved it.

I ended up rereading Gifts along with Levi. Was a great idea as I’d forgotten a lot of what had happened in that book even though it didn’t directly affect the plot in Levi although it’s during the same timeframe. Levi is certainly in the same caliber of the ‘Killer’ series and is EXCELLENT! Love how a lot of the other Killer characters were still prevalent in this book. So good!

This book was beautiful on so many levels, Carissa and Levi were a wonderful childhood sweetheart story, so strong despite all that fell apart around them. However the relationship of Cade and Carissa was just as wonderful, the bond they have as twins was lovely to read and how Cades autism was portrayed was wonderful, this is something close to my heart and covered his struggles perfectly highlighting things not everyone is aware of and I loved that. This book is up there with all the other killer stories and was a joy to read, I couldn't put it down. I truly hope more next generation stories come because will miss this world and all the characters.
