With a few extra hours a week on her hands, Loretta Sweet decides to volunteer at Misery, Mississippi's small library. Just days after being hired, the librarian, Iris Huggins, asks Loretta to run outside and empty the book return bin.

Loretta has almost finished retrieving all of the books when she discovers one stuck in the far corner. She quickly realizes that not only is the book stuck in the back, but it’s also covered with a sticky substance that appears to be blood!

Things go from bad to worse when police arrive on scene and discover there's more than just a suspicious library book...there has also been a murder.

With the library in “lockdown” and the town in an uproar, it soon becomes apparent that Loretta was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    Loretta has some free time so she starts volunteering at the library. On her third day she finds a blood stained book in the outdoor book return box and. When the police respond they inspect the book and then find a dead body in the bushes. The dead women has Loretta’s bandana clutched in her hand. Loretta has to find the murderer to clear her name.

    I am enjoying Hope Callaghan's cozy mystery series featuring Loretta and Lacy Sweet and their Uncle Ichabod. Being a big city girl my whole life then moving to a very small town, I can relate to that part of the series. The mysteries, not so much. However I am loving these books. One thing that tickles me, Hope ends each book by writing "the end".
    Light, fun reading. I would recommend this series to everyone. Even though each book works as a stand alone, it helps to start with the first book and read through them in order. You meet the towns folk and progress of their lives and interactions.

Once again the twins seem to get themselves in trouble but it seems that this time it's more about Loretta being in the wrong place at the wrong time and the whole town is talking. With Uncle Icabod and Lacey by her side, she will be able to clear her name and solve the crime
