License to Bite: A Frightfully Funny Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 3,489 ratings

It's all fun and games…until someone wakes up dead.

Governor's daughter Jane Anderson is used to getting what she wants. When a girls' trip to Mardi Gras thrusts her into the arms—and fangs—of New Orleans' hottest vampire, he gifts her with immortality, super strength, and a complexion to die for.

There's only one tiny problem. Jane faints at the sight of blood.

When Ethan Devereaux meets Jane, his cold, lifeless heart learns to beat again. Convinced she's his late fiancée reincarnated, he turns her, claiming her as his own. But when Jane wakes up dead in Ethan's attic, she's loud, sassy, and downright ornery. He doesn't know if he should kiss her or stake her, but one thing's for certain…

She is
so not his long-lost love.

But Ethan turned her, so he's stuck with her. Jane has three weeks to learn the ways of the vampire and get her license, or she'll be staked. If Ethan can't help her overcome her aversion to blood, his undead life might also be on the line.

    Well, this was fun.

Jane is the daughter of the Governor of Texas, vacationing in New Orleans. As she’s bar-hopping with her best friend Sophie, she tries to get a perfect picture for her blog and ends up dead only to be turned by a vampire stalking her. Next, she has to get a license to bite or be staked if she fails.

I liked the dialogue, the New Orleans setting, the magical lincensing requirement (the initial trainer permit was hilarious) and the storyline was simple, but good. Did not initially like the FMC, Jane for the same reasons as the MMC, Ethan hated her - she’s a chatty manipulator who is used to getting what she wants; by-and-by, her incurable optimism that she’d conquer all grew on me as her exciting ideas worked in her favour, but the most endearing scene was the last one at deadline-time. Ethan was a bit of a wet blanket, so references to Edward were warranted. Unlike Twilight, though this book had an adult schmexy scene, parts and all. I loved the jab at Disney’s Gaston - way to go, making him the permadrunken vampire sire! As for the humour - oversell on the frightfully funny and romcom as there was little in terms of situational comedy or hilarious dialogue (my standard being Jenny Crusie), but some bits were definitely chuckleworthy. Loved the hook at the end as well as I did like Sophie and the 2nd book is going to be about her, I think.

Recommended for lovers of lighthearted paranormal NA romantic fantasy with strong and stubborn (and frightfully annoying) vampire FMCs and cinnamon roll MMC.

License to Bite Book 1 of New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen is a light-hearted vampire romance and funny as heck! I loved this story! I giggled and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. Jane was a spoiled daughter of a governor, but Ethan the vampire who bit her finds that she is more than he first thought.
Ethan it living or “dying” in grief over his dead fiancés death. Can Jane make him FEEL something? She is a force to be reckoned with.
Her friendship with Sophie was great. They would do anything for each other. I hope Sophie gets her happily ever after.
I would have liked to see how her and Ethan got married, but I guess it really isn’t super important. It was a very fun read. I can’t wait for next in series! Downloading now.

A humble living, nervous anxious vampire sires a sassy, annoying rich girl who provides for him kinda and buys him lux curtains and ice cream. He does not give off protector masculine vibes at all. The roles are swapped, I feel like that was the intention of the author. Lol Def different from other vampires stories, even the vampire abilities and politics. Some funny parts but it’s what held the story together a bit. For a short book, it picked up in amusement at about 68% in (checked on my kindle) which is too late for a short read.
And then there’s a bit more to the story.
This is something I’d read at the airport or plane.

This book was loud and clear, it’s not a serious story- just a fun quirky read to make time pass and it indeed did. I can't say I disliked it because I didn’t, I’ve never seen writing like that before and I’m not mad about it lol I’d say it’s worth it for a short read. I snatched it during “Stuff Your Kindle” and I’m glad I did

Jane is stubborn, always gets what she wants, and refuses to conform to the life her dad wants for her. She wants to be a travel blogger and she is really good at it. But her dad, who happens to be the governor of Texas, insists that she do as he says. But Jane refuses to live her life that way. So she heads off to Mardi Gras to add more content to her blog and just knows she is going to have the time of her life.

Ethan lost has fiance and is now nothing but a sexy, grumpy vampire. He walks the streets and spends his day watching over his maker, Gaston. While Gaston was a vampire before certain laws were put into place to help ensure that vampires remain hidden, he still must comply with them but that doesn't mean he doesn't stray now and then. These laws state that all vampires must have a license to feed while inside city limits but there are two times of when a vampire can feed: New Years and Mardi Gras. And Mardi Gras is in full swing!

While wandering the streets, Ethan sees Jane from afar and thinks that she is his dead fiance reincarnated. But after an accident leaves Jane dead, Ethan must act quickly and before he knows it, he has not only turned her but marked her as his fated mate. Which he shouldn't even be able to do! This paranormal romcom was a cute and quick read. Ethan quickly realizes that Jane is nothing like his lost love and wants the bond to be broken but he is stuck with her and her fear of blood. He has three weeks to teach her how to be a vampire, see blood without fainting, and get her to feed or they will both be staked by the council. With twists and laughs, this was a cute and light read.

It seems like Ethan should have been a woman. His moods swing like he is having a premenstrual time. It was nice to finally see him loosen up.
