Praise for Slices of Soul, Book 1 in the Soul Poetry Series:

"I found my answer in this wonderful treasure-trove and have already read it three times." Robert Fear

"I found in Slices of Soul something approaching aesthetic bliss, a sense of being connected in some way to other states - like tenderness, kindness, ecstasy - where art is the norm." Colm Herron

"A stunning collection of poems that I read in one sitting! Unable to simply put this down until I had read the last. I love the clarity of the short poems, such clear images created in so few words or phrases. Many of them touched my heart and I will be giving them a 2nd and 3rd read!" Audrina Lane

I found the poems in this book very moving. They really spoke to me. Kent has great talent in evoking deep emotions, spiritual experiences, and even the story of a life in only a few simple words.

The volume is divided into six sections, with poems devoted to each theme. There’s Lonely Soul, Seeking Soul, Brief Soul, Friendly Soul, Loving Soul, and The Life of a Soul.

While these poems are clearly autobiographical, they concern universal themes that speak to all of humanity.

I’m not one for love poems, but the poems dedicated to Kent’s husband in the Loving Soul section are so overflowing with love, so burning with love, so romantic that my cold horror heart couldn’t help but soften slightly reading them. She expresses such a beautiful, pure emotion so well. What a blessing to have someone write such poems about you!

The last section, The Life of a Soul, is masterful. It goes through the poets life. It’s amazing how a whole life is displayed in such layered detail with such few, deft brushstrokes.

My favorite poems are Life Goes On, from Lonely Soul. True Friend and Be Yourself from Friendly Soul. Lost Property from Loving Soul, and The Life of a Soul.

I also commend the formatting of the poems. I have the ebook and the different layout and format of each poem really added to my enjoyment of this volume. I’m sure it looks even better in print.

This is as beautiful collection of mainly freestyle poetry by Harmony Kent. The collection is divided into six sections all relating to the emotional reactions of the 'soul'. My favourite sections were Lonely Soul and Seeking Soul as I found those very relatable. I think that highly creative people can often be lonely even if they are surrounded by people, and are always seeking a higher meaning in everything in life.

My favourite poem from the Lonely Soul section was Echoes, and this is a stanza from that poem:

    "Echoes thunder
    Through an empty room
    The noise deafening
    In its absence"

From the Seeking Soul section, I loved Still Laundry to Get Done, and this is a short extract:

    "Offer trust and love anyway
    Break down our prison walls
    Life finds a way
    Be me"

The next three sections offer equally beautiful poems about other aspects of relationships that can either feed or detract from the soul including love and friendships.

The Life of a Soul is a most interesting and unusual section as it comprises of one long poem, broken into several sections, that is an autobiography. It tells a poignant and lovely story of the poet's journey from Birth, which included "nearly died", through Infancy feeling "but lost identity", Becoming, involving "fragmented into, a separate person", Childhood thinking "but didn't have what it took", Young Adult progressing to "feels like coming home", Postulant when she "made myself homeless", the Monk, a time "to put myself back together", the Cripple and a circumstances where "life changed forever after", and Back in the World with an attitude of "laughing into the unknown".

This is a beautiful and unusual book that will appeal to lovers of poetry as well as any person who has ever felt strong emotions and suffered only to rise up again.

Life & Soul is a collection of poems divided into six sections—Lonely Soul, Seeking Soul, Brief Soul, Friendly Soul, Loving Soul, and culminating with The Life of a Soul.

The author’s feelings are laid bare, and although she has been through some traumatic events in life, she didn’t allow those things to keep her down.

As with most collections, I had favorites. Wild and Free serves as a reminder that we should not be quick to judge others or attempt to mold someone into what we believe they should be.

"I’m not the prettiest flower in the field
But neither am I a weed
Take the time to watch me bloom
Don’t cut my stem and moan when I fade too soon
Far better that you leave me be
Dancing in the breeze, wild and free"

True Friend gives the meaning of true friendship in thirty-one short words.

    "friendship
    does not measure
nor count the give and take
    of offering, asking, sharing
    of life
    ever loyal, honest, and true
    I’ll always be around
    to share the ups
    and downs"

A bit of the author’s humor shines through in This Ain’t Kansas. Part six, The Life of a Soul, is a journey into Kent’s life.

The poems are short and easy to read but speak volumes. Many readers can relate to one or more of them.

I don’t read a lot of poetry, but this book moved me. An easy five stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed the collection of poems in Life and Soul. Easy reading and simple to follow, especially how the Author divided the writings into separate sections. Harmony Kent leads the reader through many versions and varieties of ‘The Soul’ by the guise of loneliness, friendship, or love.

For anyone who wants to dive into the various genres of love, life’s expeditions and friendship, I think this book is worth reading.

Some my favorites in the book:
Echoes - A good comparison of facing some challenges alone and where the minds voyage can take a person
Section Brief Soul - I loved the short line stanzas that leads the reader on a beautiful, poetic journey of all places – A funeral
New Girl on the Block - A group goes on a trip and tries to find their true message of friendship
Drenched – Two strangers meet in the rain and somehow find a relationship

All in all, a nice touch of wording, well thought out stanzas and poetic list that gives the reader a better understanding of the human soul. And, I read the book several times, which for any reader, like me, gave me soul a better understanding of the self, and myself
