"Full of suspense, heartache, and twists you won't see coming, Life Interrupted is a definite must read!"- #1 NYT Bestselling author, Rachel Van Dyken
"If you're looking for a thriller that will enchant you and keep you on the edge of your seat whilst reading, look no further than Life Interrupted by Yessi Smith." - NYT & USA Today Bestselling author L.A. Casey

I am a blank canvas that even the artist in me doesn’t know how to fill. My life started the day I escaped and woke up in the hospital.
Escaped from reality. Escaped from fear. Escaped from him.
Nothing exists before that, and as the days trickle by, I’m positive there’s nothing after that either.
I try though. For Poppa, who hasn’t left my side since I woke up, I try to live.
But every attempt is futile. So I escape again and start fresh on a small island, where there aren’t any expectations to fulfill. Where family and friends I don’t remember can't look at me with sadness and disappointment.
And when Travis Keillar comes into my life everything changes. The memories I’ve lost become unimportant to the memories I’m creating with him. For the first time since I opened my eyes that fateful day in the hospital, life smiles back at me.
Until it doesn’t.
Until
he comes back for me.
For revenge of crimes I don’t remember committing.

At the start of Life Interrupted by Yessi Smith, Holly isn't even sure that her name is Holly. That's what the kindly old man calls her, but what does he know?

In the midst of an avalanche of questions for which she has too few answers within her grasp, she struggles to hold on to her sanity, to her grip on reality, meanwhile, the man who held her prisoner for the last six months, and evidently tortured her over the duration is still out there somewhere. Possibly running for the hills, possibly waiting around the next corner to snatch her back again, the only thing anyone knows for sure is that he's some kind of monster. Something in him has broken in such a way that he could do such a thing in the first place.

I simply can't say too much about the storyline without giving away significant spoilers, so I'll stop there. What I will say is that this book provides a fascinating glimpse of the line people sometimes walk between being sane and insane, between being human and being what we reassuringly label an inhuman monster.

Participating in Holly's journey as she navigates her way from complete ignorance through to a growing awareness of who she is as a person and who she's prepared to try and be, we see her grow, even if the new Holly has no conscious memory of being the old Holly.

The path of her journey has her interacting with a wide range of fascinating characters, from that old man at her bedside to the two BFFs who can't stop expecting Holly to be just plain old Holly, to the two men who enter her life with no expectations from the old Holly, simply accepting the new Holly at face value.

There's love that plays a major role in how Holly's recovery progresses, and love that forces a show down as everything comes together. So much love driving so many relationships. Husband & wife, father & son, brother & sister, woman & man all force the cast of characters towards an epic confrontation that will have you on the edge of your seat.

While its certainly far from what one might consider a traditional romance novel, with significant elements of psychological thriller and a dash of suspense, what I can say with certainty is that it was a ripping good yarn, one I'm tempted to go back to the start and read all over again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

    Loved it.

The good: It was a great story, full of potential. For what was written, i enjoyed it. It was dark, but not too dark. Suspenseful without being overly so. The story made some interesting twists and turns. I have never read this author before, but i think i might look into some of her other books.

The bad: there were some glaring editing mistakes in the beginning that made it a little harder to fully immerse myself in the story. As it was, i found myself frequently putting the book down, and doing other things. But since the only "bad" i can mention are some editorial comments, and the feeling the story could have been longer, i think all in all it was a good story.

OVERALL: I would recommend this as light reading for adults. All in all, i liked it.

This book is so appropriately titled it is shocking. I started reading it.....life became interrupted. I didn't want to stop. THIS BOOK! It has so many different elements that the author, Yessi Smith, blended effortlessly together. There is suspense, mystery, horror, and romance. Strong character development...right down to the dog, Leeloo, who all animal lovers will love.

The prologue takes us through a terrifying run in the woods. It is spine chilling. Even though it is only two pages, it completely drew me in to this story. I had to know what was happening and why.

Who, what, why, and where? These are questions that Holly cannot answer. She doesn't even remember her own name. She has to rely on the kind old man who tells her that he is her Poppa. He makes her feel safe. He takes care of her until she is stronger. However, she isn't convinced she will ever be the person she use to be.
"I’m back in their lives, but I’m a different version of who they remember. They remember a vibrant, fearless, spontaneous girl. They’re left with me."

It is hard to describe the story without giving away parts of the plot. I can tell you it is a must read. A read that will run you through all the emotions. You will feel like you are right there with Holly, as she tries to remember life and what interrupted hers.

Thank you, Yessi Smith, for interrupting life with this fabulous story. I can't wait for more.

I absolutely loved how this story started off. A young woman wakes up in a hospital with no memory of who she is or how she got there. I's apparent that something horrific happened because she was missing for over 6 months. Nobody knows what and Holly can't tell them. Over the coarse of the book pieces of mystery are being presented through Holly's dreams and from the person responsible for her absence. I love that we get into the mind of this crazed and evil man. It's actually my favorite part of the book.

The middle part of the book is mostly about Holly's road to recovery, self discovery and her budding romance with the oh so hot and cocky, Travis. We still got some thrills along the way but this part really added some depth and direction to the story. I was thoroughly enjoying this book and tossing around 4-5 stars in my head. I knew it was going to comedown to the ending.

I was soooooo disappointed. The end ruined the entire book for me. From the time Holly and Travis found the shed, till the very end, there was not one character that didn't let me down. Unlikely (even in fiction), disappointing, and just plain lacking. Even the twist (which I didn't see coming) that had so much potential, fell flat in the end. I wish I could say more but I can't without including spoilers. I know others didn't have the issues I had with the ending so maybe you will feel differently.

Life Interrupted - Yessi Smith 5 Stars !

Whoa, what a book! I was drawn in and addicted from the first few pages. I didn't find this book overly dark, more of a psychological thriller. How I love a standalone too !

I connected so well with the characters and the plot that I found it hard to put this one down.

I totally love when you predict where the story is going and the opposite happens, the ending, that twist blew me away - wasn't expecting that one! This is my first read from Yessi and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Was it just me or did everyone see what was going to happen at the end? Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the book & it's predictability didn't detract from my overall enjoyment, but it could have been better. I lost patience with Holly at the end - she became a wimp. I sort of understand the reasons, but I had hoped she had found her true 'inner self'. It was nice & dark - just what I like, but I would have liked the 'twists & turns' to be a little less obvious.
This is the first book I've read by Yessi, but it won't be my last. I think it is worth a read if you like this type of book & would give it a rating of 3/4 stars.
