    A suspenseful, clean romance, Life Saver highlights the bond between sisters, as Charlotte does everything she can at the tender age of 18 to take care of her sister in the face of an abusive father. She discovers that as hard as she tries, she is still stymied at every turn, until she reaches critical mass. However, the worst day of her life is the one when her existence takes on a new dimension, adding fire fighter Neil to the mix. Just when Charlotte feels that the universe is against her, she discovers that there are people willing to stand by her and protect her. While her problems are not solved over night, she does find that she is no longer alone. There were a few holes in the story that didn’t entirely make sense, but it is nevertheless an enjoyable and an entertaining read. Although the book is part of a series and characters from other stories appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a stand-alone and comes to a satisfactory conclusion.

    Charlotte has been there for her younger sister for years and that’s not going to change, just because Jeremy, their dad, shows back up wanting custody of Penny. Neil is the new firefighter in town and Charlotte has caught his attention. Will she give him a chance or is she too caught up in her custody battle? I love this short read about family and the lengths one will go to make sure they stay a family. Grab your copy and fall in love with the town and residents of Shady Piers, Maine.

    A well written story that is a standalone within a series. You don't need to have read the others first, you are given enough insight of the secondary characters that you are not lost, but also doesn't feel repetitive. This story has alot if angst which is a huge part of Cole and Mia's relationship. Mia a city girl looking to get away to regroup, she is a historical romance author that is experiencing writers block. She has trust issues for being hurt in the past. Cole, part owner of the Black Elkhorn resort is the outdoor guidesmen and also has been hurt in the past. There is instant chemisty when the two meet but they are denying the pull that only seems to make the attraction get stronger. This story includes friendships, family, laughs, tormented emotions, Raw passion, BDSM lifestyle and explicit sex scences. When forced to his cabin when caught in a snowstorm, Cole informs her he doesn't due Vanilla. Mia however takes to being a sub naturally. They need trust and honesty and Cole seems to be the one that needs the healing the most when he tells her they cannot continue and she flees back home. A beautifully written shorter story.

    Tne story starts with Charlotte giving Neil an unexpected tea bath. Later Neil rescues her from a fire. Add in a smarmy father (Charlotte's) and things progress from there. This was a quick read for me. I enjoy reading stories with happy endings, and this one didn't disappoint.

    Charlotte Olson had a lot of things go wrong for her, being her sister Penny's legal guardian because of her dad's behavior was just one of the things she had to cope with at a young age. Charlotte works as a waitress and the first time she meets firefighter Neil Mack she spills ice tea over him. There is danger, drama, arson, I enjoyed reading this book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

    This is my first experience reading a novel by Alicia Best. However it will not be my last.

    This author immediately starts the action at the beginning of the first chapter and never lets up. I was hooked right away. This story takes place in the small town of Shady Piers and is the story of Charlotte Olson, a waitress, and Neil Mack, a firefighter.

    Charlotte becomes guardian of her underage sister, Penny, when their drunk-of-a-father disappears. Since then, Charlotte has put her life on hold. When the story begins, their father returns and informs Charlotte that he plans to get full-time custody of Penny.

    Meanwhile, Charlotte meets Neil at her restaurant. However, they don’t really get to know each other until after Charlottes’ apartment catches on fire, and Neil is one of the firefighters. Unfortunately, after all of these predicaments, Charlotte has even less time for romance.

    In spite of that, Ms. Best creates a character that, amidst all of these tragedies, is a persistent, hard-working woman who continues to exhibit a positive attitude.

    Also, the author writes Neil as a compassionate young man who refuses to allow Penny or her homeless, penniless predicament to deter him from pursuing a relationship, albeit a slow-moving one.

    This is advertised as a clean book which certainly fits in with the plot. In fact, I would have had a problem if someone in Charlotte’s predicament would be actively pursuing a romance. I would, also, have thought less of Neil if he had not stepped back and given Charlotte a chance to come to terms with her circumstances and try to figure things out. Instead he does what he can to help her.

    This is a very quick read, but, even so, the characters and the plot are very well developed.

    I enjoyed this book, and I will definitely read more of this author’s books.

    Charlotte Olson has her challenges in raising her young sister. A disastrous fire takes away their remaining possessions but their lives are spared for them to fight on. Firefighter Neil Mack comes into their lives when he rescues both of them from the fire. What is the deeper threat to Charlotte and her sister? A good read with a satisfying conclusion.
