- Reviewed in the United States on October 30, 2021Lighthouses have an eternal appeal, drenched as they are in legend and history, their sea-lashed settings, and so much tragedy. Toss in a ghost or two, a dash of romance and mystery, and who can resist a short story titled The Lighthouse Keeper? Talented author Pam Lecky weaves all these elements into a well-told tale sure to delight those who enjoy a dash of eerie with their romance, or vice versa.
Other reviewers may note story details, and I don’t give spoilers in reviews, so I’ll just share why I loved The Lighthouse Keeper. Obviously, lighthouses, ghosts, and atmosphere, ring all my ‘great read bells.’ Lecky masters the short format, giving readers a wonderful and satisfying tale presented with such skill that you’ll believe you’re there in the lighthouse with the heroine and her boyfriend. The ghostly bits are just as real-seeming, the eerie elements making this a great story for a cold and dark night, especially if there’s rain pelting the windows, a fire crackling in the grate.
Bottom line: The Lighthouse Keeper is a must-read for all fans of the supernatural. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2018This story is set on the windswept coast at Black’s Bay, where Sally and Alex plan to spend their first weekend away together. The isolation of the lighthouse lends a bleak and forlorn air to the setting, and compounds the darkness and the unfamiliar when the sun goes down. The reader is positioned to empathise with Sally through exposure to her thoughts, feelings and responses to the events of the weekend, which makes them in turn vulnerable to the eerie twists in the story.
This is a very enjoyable story, complete with a couple of very effective chills for good measure. It’s an easy read in under 30 minutes, which makes it ideal for a lunch break or a short escape into a story to break up a busy day.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2023A short suspense and paranormal story you will enjoy. Story line flowed smoothly. you will not be disappointed. 25 pages so you can finish in one sitting.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2017I love lighthouses. I've always had a fascination with them, especially the supernatural aspect that often comes with them. The author does a wonderful job of building tension as the story goes along and builds to a creepy climax. And you feel like you're right there with Sally experiencing everything she's experiencing, which her boyfriend Alex is always quick to dismiss. A very good quick read, just like her last short story In Three-Quarter Time, which if you haven't read you should add to your list.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2020This book is only 25 pages long and moves along quite quickly. I like the way Pam Lecky writes and recommend it. A ghost story about a haunted lighthouse. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2017I read this in one sitting. I didn't want to put this book down. It is very well written. It's a smooth read. I loved the visuals I got through the author’s words. I couldn't slow my reading pace until I got to the end when the words slowed way down. Spooky. I definitely recommend this short read.

I LOVE lighthouses, and I LOVE ghost stories, and this one was really creepy… I read it while outside was raining and at some point I felt like I was there, and I wished to. Really really nice story!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tale to Chill Your Bones
A chilling ghost story set in an out of service lighthouse. A young couple's weekend promises romance in a beautiful seaside town but there's a reason their accommodation was so readily available. What if they're not alone
in the lighthouse?
Spinetinglingly good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't get too comfy
Make a cuppa and sit down. Ignore anyone calling your name and never ever agree to a weekend in a lighthouse.
