Lighthouse Escape Kindle Edition

Stina Dinesen loves her older sister but felt relieved once Lisbet and her new husband moved away from the lighthouse. Her happiness was short-lived. She now realizes her parents expect her to take over many of her sister’s former responsibilities in addition to the ones already hers. Only, unlike her sister, Stina never wanted to manage her own lighthouse. She wants to move to town where she can have neighbors and enjoy a social life.

Much to Stina’s dismay, as the sky darkens during the day of what promises to yield the first big storm of the season, her father informs her a passing ship sent a Morse code message that they have a man overboard. They cannot rescue him due to the danger of the nearby partially-submerged rocks. With a wrenched shoulder, Arend Dinesen cannot man the rescue boat alone. He will hold the light and help, but he needs Stina to row.

John Andersen felt lost at sea long before he left his Oregon home on business to sail to San Francisco. Now, he is in the water with a twisted ankle, clinging to a rock miles from shore, and convinced he is destined to meet his end. The first hint he might survive comes when he sees a glowing lantern and realizes it is being held by someone on an approaching boat.

Is it the light that promises a bright future, or could it be the young woman plying the oars?

A Lighthouse has so many stories. Of being a beacon to alert ships of danger, guiding those who flounder to safety and sometimes shining as a symbol of hope.

In Stina's case she felt it a burden, because she wanted to move to town, not have to be tied to the lighthouse as all of her family. But one fateful night may change that.

John was on a voyage to San Francisco to conduct business. Going overboard in a storm, he thought all was lost. But he sees a light coming toward him, and that light becomes more than just a rescue.

A wonderful story that made my heart sigh as I turned the last page.

As the daughter of a lighthouse keeper Stina needs to help her father when needed but she’s waiting to leave home and connect more with people. But one night she needs to help her father to save someone who’s gone overboard. During a storm John falls overboard and was saved by the lighthouse keeper and what he thinks is his son but instead is a lovely woman. Will this meeting change everything or will they just be ships passing in the night?
After reading Libet’s story it’s fun to read her sister Stina’s story, it fits perfectly. Really enjoyed it.

Stina doesn't want to help with the lighthouse where she lives. She feels so isolated & caged in. But when she helps her father rescue a man in the ocean, she changes her opinion. John could be just what she needs & what he needs also. I enjoyed this story.

What a wonderful, clean refreshing novel from the 1800s giving you a glimpse into the life during those times, and the duties of the lighthouse keeper and his family.

This is a delightful read. The author does a very thorough job of explaining all the aspects around being a lighthouse keeper. These men and women were a special kind, isolated for much of their lives, working day and night to keep their lights burning, and risking their lives to trying to save others when a ship went down in a storm.
If you ever have opportunity, I encourage you to tour a lighthouse. Climb those many steps to the top where the Fresnel lens sits and experience the small, unique space within.
Lighthouses provided guidance and hope for those who sailed along the coastlines of America before the modern technology of our day.
I appreciated the details of a Danish family living as lighthouse keepers. The names, speech, and recipe gave a deeper look into their background.
The main characters, John Andersen, spelled with an e, and Stina (Christina) Dinesen meet during a storm in which John has been washed overboard. It is attraction and soon after, love at first sight. But, both are young with different ideas from their families and each other of how they want to live their lives. I appreciated that this couples love life flowed within the bigger picture of the story and didn’t feel drug out just to meet a certain word count.
I received an ARC. My opinions are my own.

This book takes place in the 1880's. The Dinesen family were generational light house keepers. Arend Dinesen was the light keeper, but his family were also expected to help in the duties of the Light house when needed. John Andersen (with an E not an O!) comes from a family of Steamboat workers. However John wanted to be a light house keeper, so he studied and completed his certifications. On a stormy night, Arend with the help of his daughter Stina save John's life after having fallen overboard from a ship in the storm. The author Zina always includes facts and history in all her books. I had no idea of all the certifications needed to be a light house keeper and an assistant. I have read most (if not all) of Zina Abbott's books and this one doesn't disappoint. A very enjoyable read that transports the reader into the story so much so even though it was August while I was reading the book, when the part of the story was describing the storm I actually got cold!
