About the author

I published my first novel in 2014; that was the first part of the Tales of a Modern Woman trilogy where I uncover the motivations and actions of a young woman searching for her place in the world. In Search of My Perfect Life is a novel about a modern woman born with an expectation of equality. Faking It is a romantic suspense novel about industrial espionage set in London and Surrey.
My novellas focus on life throwing a curve ball. Walking Back Toward Myself tells the story of Christina, who rediscovers her true self when her job, home and marriage crumble beneath her. Like Father, Like Son is a romantic intrigue and explores the effect of Cupid playing tricks on people who are already hiding secrets from their partners. The Secret of Contentment is a romantic intrigue that explores the reverberations and revelations that ripple into many people's lives when a secret is uncovered.
My latest book is a contemporary novella with a supernatural twist called Son of the Furrows.
I have also written Crumbs from the Bread of Life - a collection of short stories and poetry - and The Sisterhood Illusion - a play that throws the spotlight on how women both support and use each other in the guise of friendship.
Be it saga or suspense, crime or family drama, I'm a sucker for a love story and you'll find someone in my books will always have a happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A witty, well-written modern family drama
Like Father, Like Son is a novella that I breezed through in just a couple of days. I really enjoyed the writing and the initial introductions to the characters, which was enough of a hook to snag my interest.
The story follows a series of coy revelations told from each character's point of view. Gina seems ordinary enough and is intimidated by her promising boyfriend Alex's rich, over-achieving family.
But of course, all is not as it seems, and her sudden crush on Alex's father Daniel blows away the fascia of stiff upper lip propriety that the cold family matriarch Lysette has managed to impose.
I really liked Jane Sleight's writing here. Deft thumbnail descriptions of place and setting are like stage dressing for the human drama which unfolds through economic and punchy dialogues which carry the reader through the twists and turns as each character's motivation is revealed and tested by the others'.
The surprise for me was the subtlety of the characters' interactions and nuanced personalities which were something of a departure from the last book I read by this author. It gave me a distinct feeling of appreciation for the characters themselves which sowed in me a genuine sense of interest in their lives and in the final outcome. This was so well done that, for example, I really liked the precocious daughter Catty even though my every instinct would usually make me dislike her.
I did have some reservations about the story, and I can't really say why as it would reveal unforgivable spoilers! It was a purely subjective view and I'm sure most readers will have their own opinion.
That said, I would heartily recommend Like Father Like Son as a really enjoyable read. It is a witty, very well-written modern family drama with well-defined and interesting characters.
