Little Harbour (Scandinavian comfort Book 1) Kindle Edition
This is an adventure of hope, where Axel Kleve keeps himself too busy to even stop and think. Work, sleep, eat, repeat. He loves his job as a Midwife at Oslo’s University Hospital, He’s good at lecturing and training, and now he has somehow been pushed into running “Ask Axel”, a midwifery blog on PNN.no, the parenting-site everyone in Norway trusts.
This is a tale of second chances. Jens, he doesn't let himself think of Axel. He doesn't think of Axel at all.
And Axel needs to stop longing for that one crush he’s never been able to leave behind. It’s just plain ridiculous. He should have got over Jens Sommerfeldt years ago.
A novel full of love and family life, featuring a hord of feral children, a stolen pram, a Midwifery blog and an ill advised stint on TV. Oh yes, and a man who had lost hope and another who never gave it up.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2018Simple story.
Simple, beautiful words.
Big feelings!
The love between Jens and Axel is simply put 'all-encompassing'. The connection between them as teenagers is instant. And after their time apart, the connection is still instant. It's all believable, tangible and something you can almost see. It's real.
This book is about unconditional love within a family. How a new force of love saves a man and his children from slipping completely into the cracks and darkness of their grief. Axel is Jens greatest love. And them coming together is magnetic; them being together brings everything else together. And it's so real, this family, just like all families have their ups and downs, the chaos, the joy, the laughter. Considering the obstacles Jen, Axel and the kids face, this story is also surprisingly low-angst. It's just magical and unique while at the same time being just beautifully normal.
Don't be fooled by the modest "love & family" theme of this story. There is a lot of depth here. Layers built on layers. And shout-out to secondary characters who just made this story even better. They enhanced this story, just like all those extra people's in our own lives. (Also the family text chats are adorable and hilarious)
Heartachingly gorgeous story, mixed in with lots of laugh out loud moments, love, and cuddles. It's astounding how a story of family makes you yearn to hug your own. Can't wait to see what this author gives us next.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 7, 2019I read this story in one afternoon, I simply wanted to know what was going to happen next. It was not what I expected when I purchased the book. This book became much more than a romance with some angst and a bit of sexy times. Jens and Axel felt real like your next door neighbors or friends who you wanted to see wonderful things happen to. Finding love the second time around was work in the very best way. Even reading through their struggles was hilarious because they found humor in absolutely everything. The secondary characters were snarky and ridiculous and warm hearted and so very full of layers. While reading there was crying and laughing (out loud) and lots of giggles. I think anyone who enjoys real stories with real characters cannot miss with "Little Harbor" . An absolute joy to read.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2019When I saw the cover and read the blurb I figured this would be a good fast red, boy was I wrong! From the beginning I felt this book grabbed my heart and took off with it. It is one of those books that you can't put down and will read again. The characters are well written and the story line keeps you involved up to the very end. I love the interaction with all the kids, how open the family is about sex. When the 16yr old ask her dad to put condoms on the shopping list there wasn't a lecture or any shaming, just a short discussion and he puts them on the list. This was a great book and I look forward to reading more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2021When a book makes me laugh and cry and fall asleep thinking about the people who have become so real to me, that's when I know I've found a keeper. This story is rich in love. Love between two men who fell into each other as boys, but who weren't really ready for it. Love between a man and wife, cut short and leaving a man reeling. Love in maturity that heals a shattered family and allows them room to grow. I'm so glad I found Sophia Soames and her beautiful Norwegian people.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 20183.5 Stars!
I liked the book. My main issue was that it was very long for the story that was being told. Some scenes were lackluster and could have easily been edited out without being missed. I skimmed some of this and skipped the bonus scenes because I just needed it to be done.
I actually enjoyed that there was no angst in sight. I liked the relationship that Axel developed with Morten. The children actually kept this book afloat for me. They were all very entertaining.
Axel was an enjoyable character but I found it hard to like Jens. I understand loss and grief. Still going through it myself. The problem was that he came off as a bit immature.
This book has a lot of steam, tender moments, love, acceptance, and a whole lot of mush. So much mush. I'm so not the person for all that mush. It was too much for my taste. I guess I'm just too jaded. But the true romantics at heart will really love this story.
Happy reading dolls! xx
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2023I downloaded this book after reading a Q&A with Jennifer Cody, in which she listed Little Harbour as a book she couldn’t put down. I haven’t been able to put it down either. I enjoy all kinds of romances- action, supernatural, fantasy, thriller.... But while I may enjoy them all, there’s just something about a love story that doesn’t skip over the minutiae of every day life. Soames has written a heartbreakingly beautiful story out of the ordinary. A story that feels like a love letter. A love letter between Axel & Jens. A love letter to the reader. Download this book. Make yourself some tea. Settle into your favorite reading spot. And be prepared to stay there for a while.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ode to everlasting love
A beautiful tale of love lost then found. Two middle aged men bring to together their hearts, their families and their lives to form a wonderful love that will last forever. Babies, kids, boyfriends and family friendships all come together to form an extend unit, held together by love and by mutual need.
A lovely story for the modern world.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love mm books

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and sad - if a bit long.
I loved the book - the main characters, the kids, the snark and the text conversations. Am I the only one though who felt a bit sorry for Sofie. OK, he said he loved her but she knew he loved Axel first and best. Also, the fact that Jens was so hopeless with the kids makes me think that Sofie did the lion's share of the housework and childcare - and I think she worked too. Why was Jens so hopeless with his own children? Yes, I felt sorry for Sofie.
However the love story and family life was wonderful - perhaps leave that last chapter for a bit though and come back to it in a little while.
