Little Red (Fairy Tales Retold Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 113 ratings

Follow along and you will see a tale retold in a world of unimaginable creatures, gods, and goddesses. A world filled to the brim with magic. Our story begins with a sorcerer with too much power without the age to match.

Ryder, our hero, who just so happens to be a painfully short redhead, has found himself burdened with the fates of thousands, in a life where he has so far received very few answers. In order to find the cure to the plague that has overtaken the Kingdom of Solais, he sets off on a quest to seek out his slightly crazy grandmother, in the Yore Forest.

Add in one flirty, handsome werewolf Prince, a sarcastic sorcerer-hating werewolf, some full-blown insanity, and a bit of magic, and Ryder finds his momentous task doubling in difficulty and stress. But all is not what it seems, and sometimes life takes you to places you never wished to stand. In the end, Ryder's decisions and paths are not choices but destiny. And in said destiny lies insurmountable magic, death, and maybe even love.

Or perhaps I should say 'tail'. This very different author continues to grow on me as I read more of their books. I think great authors write the books they would want to read themselves and the reader can just feel the love that was put into their creation. Another sign, oddly, of authors I'm going to learn to love is that at first I might not like their books. Then I keep going back to re-explore the stories or find ones I've missed. Books. So much better than anything else in life! 🤔

I was pleasantly surprised by Little Red. It ended up being quite original and so much more than simply Red going into a forest to visit his grandmother. While some parts of it were quite predictable (the grandmother) those parts were still extremely well done. Grandmother was EVIL. I liked the characters and enjoyed the way their interactions and growing friendships helped them grow as people. I have a feeling there will be a sequel and we will see more development into the romantic relationships as well as the world building. I suspect Red is still in for some surprises.

I loved this rendition of Little Red Riding Hood!! I enjoyed the characters and the twists and turns that came to the characters. Even though I could guess who the big bad was I was very interested in why and if/how they would be defeated by our ragtag group of characters. Most retellings have a hard time keeping me interested because they stick too close or bend a well known story way too far, but this one did not have this issue. At times I forgot this was a retelling and felt like a brand knew story, which I appreciated.
Ryder struggles with control of his magic as well as his self-conscious mind. While Bane intentionally/not-intentionally gets caught up with the witch's problems, he also gets caught up in the witch himself. Their relationship with each other and the others around them really keep this book moving at a break neck speed. I look forward to the next installments of this series. (Joffery's is gonna be so interesting. I have this feeling :) ) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

It's a good story, I liked the premise of sorcerers and wolf shifters as enemies due to a long ago misunderstanding. Most of the characters were fun, decent world-building. And you get used to the modern day language after a fashion. But there were quite a few editing errors, from wrong spelling to awkward phrasing - not enough to keep me from finishing the book, but enough for me to hope that the editing improves in the next book.
Overall, I am looking forward to another story; will Red's grandfather reconcile with his past love? Are there more adventures for Red and Bane? What's Joffrey's story?

I truly enjoyed this story about little red, who in this case is a magic user has some fun adventures with werewolves, and an evil witch and exploding toys. Well worth the time to read.

This was a fantastic retelling that took the Red Riding Hood classic and flipped it on its head. Poor Red's granny was so cray cray, no hugs or homemade cookies in sight, unless they were made from the bodies of her foes. This was such a great series starter and I cannot wait to see which tale comes next, the sorcerer needing a reason to go on or the wolf with a secret or something else entirely, I'm sure to love whichever it is.

I liked the magic use and the plot. I disliked how long it took for the couple to settle their differences though. The spell book at the end seemed a bit over the top to me. It seemed the story was cut short by putting that spell book info at the end. I enjoyed the book anyway.

In a world brimming with magic Ryder was exceptional. He needs to save his
People from a wasting plague. Bain, a werewolf prince. He becomes entangled with the red headed Ryder, much to his dismay. They both have prejudices they need to move past to get their happy ever after.

This was an awesome retelling of Red Riding Hood. Who knew the wolf was sexy and just a bit inept in the romance department. Although once he finally got it right it was sweet.

The bad guy (or in this case woman) was truly over the top. Her power and the creatures she created were very impressive. I would love to see drawings of them.

Well done book that fueled my imagination. With formidable heroes (and villain) I would expect to find in a fairy tale.

It is difficult to make an old, well known fairy tale a completely new story, but the author has very successfully done that in this, creating a charming and thrilling start that could be followed up by more stories in this world, stories that would be just as enjoyable. All the stars 🙂

While I quite enjoyed this book overall, there were just too many characters thrown in for me. Not as many as the last book I read of this authors but still too many.
