Abandoned Grace: An Interview with Devin Andersen (The Life of Anna) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 516 ratings

What would you do if you received a phone call from someone you thought only existed in the pages of your book?

As an author, I know that characters often take on lives of their own. But imagine my complete shock when I was called upon to perform an extraordinary and revolting task: travel to Russia to speak to one hailed by many as their all-time favorite villain.

No one begins life as an evil son of a...well, you know, including Devin. Believe it or not, there was a time when our villain was a young man in love.

So what happened? Join me as I delve deep into the mind of Devin Andersen, to find out how the man became the monster.

Author of Gut-Wrenching Darkness

"If Stephen King got together with Tom Clancy and wrote an erotica book...,"

...is how Marissa describes her books when asked. She doesn't seek to write any particular genre, style, or length, only following her gut instincts and the lead of her characters. The Life of Anna crosses many genre lines including erotica, suspense, psychological thriller, horror, political conspiracy, paranormal, and romance. Marissa's story of Anna began with a dream about being kidnapped with Adam Savage from Mythbusters (Yes, really). Over the next year and a half, it morphed into the story that is now known as "The Life of Anna." She has also published Distorted Hope, which is based on her kidnapped dream. Abandoned Grace was published last year as a side story to The Life of Anna.

Marissa stays busy running her household, fending off two adorable kittens, and interacting with her readers on social media. She is a self-proclaimed geek and is striving to learn the basics of graphic design. She is also actively pursuing a more natural lifestyle, which includes essential oils, natural cleaning products, and whole, organic foods. Marissa's addictions include the Science and History Channels, anything chocolate mint, vintage books, cute kitty cats and laughter.

How neat!!! Loved it!
Oh my goodness this was fascinating. To see an author interview a character. A hated character throughout the Anna series. It was so good. You got more of Devin of the why he is how he was in her story. I have never seen an author do an interview type style before for thier own character. I LOVED every second of this one. Do I like Devin more now... heck no. But I do understand him more.

What a creative way to wrap up the loose ends and make the story complete! Marissa has an incredible mind and these characters will live in my mind and heart for a while!

A great insight in to what Devin went through. This was a great read and added more depth to his character and I have to say for a moment, I did feel sorry for him. But just for a moment. The Life Of Anna remains to be a story that had an effect on me and will not be forgotten. It's in my all time top 10 reads!

Devin as a teenager! The way it started out, Devin was actually likeable. I could forget how evil he turned out to be and appreciate his young innocence. But we see what happens to him and what changes him. He is so easily corrupted, just by telling him that he is better than his father. The events that take place in this book are all because of Devin' s selfish need for power. There were outside forces that led to his downfall. But I think if he didn't have that inner conflict, he probably could have been stronger and not been led down that path. His father is a little confusing. He seemed like a semi-good person, trying to steer Devin on the right path, but he had ulterior motives. I thought the things that happened to Anna were bad, but her poor Mother! Well, I won't give anything away. You have to read the book, to get your discoveries. It is eye opening and really explains a lot about Devin.
Another great book by Marissa Honeycutt, but too short. I wanted more and didn't want it to end. But there was a lot of information packed into this book. We get to see Alex and Anna, happily together. And Marissa as herself in the book. That was pretty cool and imaginative! Loved it!

When The Life of Anna ended, I had questions, and as dark as it is (one of the darkest books I have ever read), I wasn’t ready to say goodbye to Anna and Alex. I mean, Alex is just too swoon-worthy, and I questioned him so many times. But he won me over. Somehow this book slid under my radar, and I newly discovered it.

Abandoned Grace gives you Devins POV, the manipulative, narcissistic psychopath, just pure evil, and one of the darkest villains I have ever read. The book shows how he ended up being so evil. I almost, and I mean almost, just a silver felt terrible for him. But he made his choices in life.

The book starts off a letter to the readers from the author and turns dark. Yes, in my dark scale, this series continues to be black. It was nice to see Anna years later and how she is in her life, and the book sets the tone for the next series, Finding Sabrina. Kudos to the author for keeping my attention to two series; usually, by now, I am bored and give up. But now she sucked me in, and I couldn't be happier.

Not sure what to think about this one. It just kind of ended out of nowhere. It was interesting but left more questions unanswered than answered.

Oh Holy crap -- what an absolutely great concept!!! I didn't really know what to expect from this book, didn't know how I was going to feel, hated that as I continued reading I started to feel bad for Devin. Hated that my heart had started to ache for him..but then I remembered all the things he did - and thought even so much more..did he truly have a choice - were the decisions truly his .. ugh my feelings are in a complete and utter upheaval from this brief look into his head. There had never been and I don't think will ever be another series that will have had as much impact on me as this series. Even with just the little bit in this book so many emotions were brought back to my thoughts from LOA I felt every horrifying emotion all over again. Even with that this book did something I never thought possible .....I shed a tear for Devin!! I can honestly say that I both HATE and LOVE Marissa for that one!! I seriously did not think it would ever be possible for me to feel enough for Devin that I would shed even 1 tear! That is a true testament to her writing! I am truly hoping with how this all played out that this will not be the last we read of these characters for sure!!

I read all of the Anna books before reading this SHORT story.
I don’t understand how the Author thought it was okay to ingrate her self into the story and make claims about how she interviewed the characters in the story and embellished certain areas.... when the original books don’t make any mention of it being told in third person. This was just odd.
Once again, I’m shocked at how the women are treated and there still isn’t any hint of change or working to become a stronger role model of sorts to prevent the sufferings from happening again.
The backstory of Anna’s mom and grandmother or beyond tragic, but again it’s written for more shock value than anything else. If Anya was brutally raped at a Gathering... how on earth did Devin ingrate himself enough into their lives in the future that he was able to have access to Anna? Yes we’ve seen instances of memory manipulation, but Trevor was an immortal who could read minds and sense emotions. It made little to no sense overall.
If Kevah was given explicit orders to orchestrate all of this... why was he punished in the end?
This entire story just served as some sort of vehicle to introduce her next series that is supposed to serve as a companion series of sorts. I’m overall... unimpressed.

I love how this explains alot more about Devin’s story prior to becoming an Elder. Didn’t change my perspective of him and the things he’d done. But it shed some light. Also a plot twist about Anna’s true father that i didn’t expect. Am hoping there will be a future book following the Life of Anna series. Absolutely loved reading them

Having devoured the Life Of Anna series I was beyond excited to learn that we get to hear a bit more about the most evil man to ever have been created... Devin Andersen. What had happened in Devin's life that made him the sadistic power hungry crazy man that he was. I thought this book would give me answers... Well it did that alright and created a whole load more. AND as for the ending... OMG I can't believe the author has left the largest of carrots dangling in front of us with no news of a follow up. Frustrated does not even come close to how I feel right now. There is a whole load of crazy just waiting to be unleashed and not at the hands of Devin Andersen. There are still unknown forces at play, we still don't have the whole story. There is more trouble in store for Anna and the brotherhood.

I am raging right now. I NEED ANSWERS <stamps foot down and sulks>!

4.0 out of 5 stars There had better be a follow up!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 14, 2017
Having just finished the life of Anna and being at a loss of what to do with my life now I found this little extra and was excited to be able to dip back into the world sadly only for a very short time and to be left wanting to know what happens next, I HATE cliffhangers when there is no follow up released or even advertised as in the pipeline.

I like the premise of the story, gleaning info into Devin was a brilliant move BUT I think it would be far far better coming from the integral characters... Marissa being part of the story kind of kills the whole world she built in my eyes! I think she gets away with it solely because the life of Anna was such a brilliant series that any fan has to read anything associated with it no matter what. I will read anything released if it's got Anna in it however annoying I find the delivery because Marissa has me hook line and sinker!

So yes READ IT READ IT!
But would of been 5* if it had been released as a follow on book 6 rather than a spin of 'let's try something new' I love your work Marissa but really didn't enjoy you being in and detracting from the story.
