Loathe Thy Neighbor (Roommate Romps) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,795 ratings

Don’t fall for your enemy…especially when he’s your new roommate.

Dean Evans is the worst.
Not only does the devil in disguise steal my pie on a regular basis, he also lives in the apartment right. Next. Door.
I see him all the time. At the mailboxes. In the elevator.
Every single morning.
It’s exhausting because
he’s exhausting.

Now, after setting his apartment on fire, he’s my roommate…and he’s the worst at that too.

I don’t know what possessed me to let him stay with me. Pity, perhaps?
I do know that I won’t be falling for his charm.
Or that panty-dropping smirk.
His quick wit.
That body he works so hard for.

Nope. Not falling for any of it…least of all him.

There might be a fine line between love and hate, but I know exactly where I stand.

Loathe Thy Neighbor is a full-length standalone enemies-to-lovers, grumpy/sunshine, light angst, temporary roommates romantic comedy that will have you laughing and swooning. There's an emotional support turtle, a grumpy cat, and a whole lot of fun!

TEAGAN HUNTER writes steamy romantic comedies with lots of sarcasm and a side of heart. She loves pizza, hockey, and romance novels, though not in that order. When not writing, you can find her watching entirely too many hours of Supernatural, One Tree Hill, or New Girl. She’s mildly obsessed with Halloween and prefers cooler weather. She married her high school sweetheart, and they currently live in the PNW.

3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Its always a pleasure reading one of Teagan Hunter’s books. When I’m looking for a good laugh she’s one of my go to Authors. Loathe Thy Neighbor was a sweet, funny, sexy enemies to lovers romance. It definitely had me laughing out loud and it was exactly what I needed after reading several angst books. Plus I enjoyed seeing the ML pining over the FMC, it was a nice change for once. River and Dean have been next door neighbors for over a year and River absolutely can’t stand Dean. So instead of acting like an adult and ask River what her issue is with him.. What does Dean do? what every man would do, do everything in his power to get under her skin by playing loud music and stealing Rivers favor pie. Which leads up to a incident that has them ending up being roommates. The sexual tension gets so thick between them that they start to forget why they dislike each other. Teagan Hunter did a great job with this rom-com romance and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Audiobook review: 5 stars… Ava Erickson and Nelson Hobbs are two of my favorite narrators and as always they did a incredible job narrating this story.

Such a devourable read! Light and sexy with the kind of delicious tension that keeps you turning the pages, I loved this one from start to finish. It’s got the sexy and playful feel that I love about Hunter’s rom coms, paired with an “enemies” to lovers vibe that shakes things up a bit. One of my favorite tropes is hate that’s not really hate, and that’s exactly what’s at play here. These two just aren’t sure what to make of each other, and their combustible chemistry has thrown them off-balance. Add in an unexpected roommate situation, and the tension gets ratcheted up a notch. It’s still an easy, quick read, but just the kind of rom com that I love to devour.

The story follows River and Dean, neighbors who have been throwing barbs at one another for the past year. They got off on the wrong foot, and now neither one is exactly sure what to make of the other. Sure, there’s attraction there – but not necessarily the healthy kind. These two bicker like it’s banter, fight like it’s foreplay, and since they live next door to each other, there’s no escaping the feud. When Dean accidentally (almost) burns down his apartment, he’s left without a place to stay… and River doesn’t know what comes over her when she offers up her spare room. Now that these two are living together, they can’t just fight and move on. They’ve got to dig a little deeper, and that uncovers the kind of feelings neither one expects.

I loved it from start to finish. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from this new series (the blurb and cover had me thinking this might be heavier), but I should’ve known better. Hunter has always delivered consistently solid reads, and this is no expection. I loved Dean; he doesn’t make this book, but he definitely took it to another level. There’s something so sexy about a hero who is genuinely good but still makes your blood boil. The angst is at a minimum here (despite the heavy dose of tension), and I was rooting for this couple even when they were in denial. Yeah, they’re stupid sometimes, or at least blind to their feelings, but there’s an undercurrent of intimacy throughout the book that elevates the story. If this is the start of a brand new series, then sign me up for the rest. I was lucky enough to receive a free copy (then purchased it for my collection), and am voluntarily leaving a review of this enemies to lovers romance.

Teagan Hunter delivered the book I never knew I needed this year. Dean Evans is the teacher that all the kids love, and the neighbor River White loves to loathe--especially when he steals her favorite Cherry pie from the Gravy Train. their mutual hate escalates to passion when Dean's apartment catches fire and River volunteers her guest bedroom for him to crash in.

Like I said before, Teagan Hunter delivered with this one. I absolutely LOVED reading and listening to the Hunter's signature back and forth banter come to life with the audiobook, giving the story a different dimension and visualization that I hadn't experienced before with her novels. Dean and River's personalities clashed and meshed in the best ways possible and I think it is safe to believe that this could be my favorite book in the series so far (perks of reading them out of order)! From the side characters to the main cast, I adored each and every one of them--especially Dean's emotional support turtle, Leo.

Both Ava Erickson and Nelson Hobbs did an out of this world job narrating the audiobook for this story. They truly brought this story to life. Having listened to Ava before in previous novels (and ADORED HER) I'm excited to say that Nelson has probably/most definitely been added to my favorite male narrators lists!

Listening to these two crazies fall for each other was the highlight of my crummy Friday afternoon and the bright spot to my month! If you are looking for a fun, quick enemies-to-lovers romcom that is filled to the brim with steamy sexual tension, hilarious moments that will jeopardize your bladder control, and light angst that will have you wanting to reread it again--I highly recommend you go and grab Loathe Thy Neighbor!

If you follow my reviews, you know I am usually a sucker for enemies to lovers romance. If all romance books were a hate/love type of trope, I'd probably read more of them. This one fell in the middle for me. While I liked it, there were a few things that held me back from loving it.

The book starts out pretty great. I love how the author introduced us to the characters. The hate with sexual tension started right off the bat. There were many giggle worthy scenarios. I couldn't wait to r see what happened.

The book did slow down in the middle. I started to drift a little. The characters were too fixated on their hate and secret attraction to one another. I was finding myself rolling my eyes at them a few times.

I mostly liked the characters. They were lots of fun. However, there were times where I felt like I was reading about characters who were in their very early twenties. They were both a bit immature for their ages.

The ending , although rushed and kind of abrupt, left me smiling. This book is a very quick, fun, low emotional read. I suggest reading it if you're looking for some fun and little on the pulling on your emotional strings.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect start to a hilarious new series
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 18, 2020
Another fantastically well written enemies to lovers, food based, cute animal containing, laugh out loud Rom-com from Ms Hunter, the perfect series opener.

If there’s one thing I’ve come to depend on from Teagan, it’s her ability to write laugh out loud stories, and this one had my snorting aloud from the very first page. Seriously, you should see my ebook copy, there’s so much highlighted, it’s practically all pink!

River (awesome name btw) and Dean are next door neighbours and arch enemies, though only in their own minds, in everyone else’s, the fights and name calling is just foreplay. Everything Dean does irritates River, from his cherry pie theft , his bitterness towards her cat Morris, to his emotional support turtle Leo (adorable) but most especially the old school loud music he plays when she’s trying to relax. On just such an occasion, River is pounding on Deans door trying to get him to turn it down, but the distraction of River in just a towel is too much for Dean who forgets what he was doing, ending up in damage to his apartment, which leaves him temporarily homeless. In a rare moment of stupidity and kindness, River opens her mouth to let him (but mostly Leo) stay with her.
The sparks fly immediately, and not just those of anger, and when the pair finally give in, they agree to their arrangement only being temporary. When Dean’s home is liveable again, they go back to normal.... but you know what they say about best laid plans.

I loved River, she’s a strong heroine, business owner, hard worker, hilariously funny, a tiny ball of fury, and a cherry pie obsessive. Her cat’s dislike of Dean had me in stitches, as did her little late night mishap which left a dent in her wall.

Dean was sweet and sinfully hot, as much as he hates to show it, he’s cared for River for a long time, trying to keep everything hidden, his love and care of Leo had me swooning and laughing out loud when he talks like the turtle understands him.

A wonderful romantic journey this pair take us on. The side characters are also a lot of fun, I especially hope we see Maya and Nolan getting their HEA’s, I cannot wait for more of this series. An amazing start and a highly recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Fun Cute Read!

I was super excited to start this series since I loved the Texting Series so much. I absolutely love Teagan’s writing. It’s comical, has angst, and steamy scenes that bring the story full circle. I was overly pleased with this book once again, and I’m glad there are already a few books out so I can binge read more!

River and Dean are two neighbours who did not get off on the right foot. Since the day Dean moved in next door, certain incidents have caused these two to become mortal enemies. The banter between them is on par. Then after a small but damaging grease fire situation, River finds herself offering a room for Dean to temporarily stay in while his apartment gets fixed. How can these two go from hating each other’s guts to living together...? Tempers run even hotter until it gets to the point things are going to explode...

I absolutely loved this book. There’s intense hilarious banter, the tension is cuttable, the characters still work through their own development together and on their own, and a kitchen grease fire isn’t the only thing on fire between these two. It’s a perfect romcom with an element of enemies to lovers. I laughed, had to cool down with some water, and even teared up a bit. This is being added to the TBBL (to be bought list) for sure! I can’t wait to continue the series and see what else this feisty group of people can get into.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun enemies to lovers rom com!
Reviewed in India on October 8, 2021
This is the first book I read written by Teagan Hunter and I quite liked the writing style. This book is about River White a twenty eight year old woman who runs her own buisness and loves cherry pies. Her life might seem all busy and social but there's one thing that bothers her and that's her hot but annoying neighbor next door, Dean Evans.
"If there’s one thing about River I’m certain of—other than her love of pie—it’s her hatred of me".
River has made it quite clear to Dean that she doesn't like him because he keeps playing loud music early in the morning everyday but he doesn't seem to listen to her and stop at all no matter how much she complaints. On top of that, Dean steals her favourite pies from the place she always likes to visit with her bestfriend. She wants nothing to do with Dean but avoiding him altogether is out of question because he is not just her neighbor but also her bestfriend's son's teacher.
“Whatever. It’s nothing personal. I just like birthdays.” “I’ll file that info away in my Things I Now Know About My Neighbor Who Hates Me folder for future non-interactions.” I get a scowl for that one.
Both Dean & River seem to be annoyed with each other and whenever they crossed paths, they just couldn't help but engage in their silly fiery fights. It was a routine for them but one accidental mishap and Dean runs out of a place to say so River offers him to room with her until his place is restored. Now they have to set boundaries and act civil for the sake of their own peace whilst living together.
"I’m starting to think Dean might not be as bad as I once thought. Still annoying? Yes. But maybe there’s more to him than I thought…and that could be dangerous."
No matter how much River thought she hated Dean, she couldn't convince herself after she started to see his other side. For me, Dean was such an easy person to like. He wasn't the typical manho, rude hero instead he was kind, considerate, thoughtful, patient, funny and him adopting his little turtle from a shelter made me like him even more.
River on the other hand was so childish and petty. She often forgot things which caused an inconvenience to Dean and didn't even apologize about it. The issue was addressed two or three times and then it was just dropped off and that made me feel mad at her. I think she was a bit selfish, stubborn and self absorbed at times.
Overall, I liked the book but it could have been better if River wasn't so rude. But if you're in the mood for a quick, funny and entertaining enemies to lovers book, you can pick this up!

    Gostei bastante, recomendo!

River and Dean are enemies, though only in their own minds, everyone around them can see their chemistry a mile off. River was such a strong, take no prisoners, hardworking woman and Dean is my new favourite book boyfriend! So much heat between these two

Can’t wait to continue on with the rest of this series
