About the author

Melissa writes character-driven fiction, and any genre is fair game. When she’s not writing, she enjoys reading, anime, manga, and gaming. Living by the motto of trying all things twice, Melissa has jumped out of a perfectly good plane, swum with manatees, dived headfirst into Alice’s rabbit hole, and seduced classy ladies in 6-inch heels. A free-spirited bohemian, she currently lives in artsy St. Petersburg, Florida, with her soulmate and their two adorably needy cats.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2019This book was awesome! Definitely a must read, it's exciting, funny parts, lots of drama and a cute little love story! The story was more about the real one losing sight and not the young blind brother. So many thanks, Honey Bee 🐝📚💙🎶
- Reviewed in the United States on July 23, 2022The on in this story that needs to grow up is Caleb. Jesse is trying to live his life with his blindness, but his brother is completely smothering him. By his actions he as left Jesse vulnerable because he has never been allowed to adjust to life. I also like Dale, Jessie’s boyfriend. People grow up and people change. Caleb needs to realize that. I wouldn’t mind seeing an extra chapter somewhere when Caleb realizes that fact and quits being such a jerk to Dale.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2022This short story is more like the beginning of a longer story - only it just ends. It sets up perfectly the story of a younger blind man who has trying to pull free from his overbearing older brother. We are introduced to his brother's gf, whom it is alluded to as being trans, and an old school bully, who has begun dating his blind brother. There is mention of an illness but nothing in detail and loss of a parent, but again, no real details. I almost want to say this is more like a prequel but I don't believe the author did any more with it. I'd love to read more, as this taste just got my interest up. Hopefully it will be expanded later. It has all the makings of a really good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2022I really enjoy reading about young men overcoming their disabilities. This short story packed a punch. The back story shows it's a story about redemption. About establishing boundaries. How can you convince your older brother you're old enough (at age nineteen) to be independent? How do you convince your younger blind brother that he needs to be supervised or bad things can happen? How much coddling is too much? Just because someone is blind doesn't mean they can't fall in love. Who will win this battle of wills between two brothers? How can you be protective without being smothering?
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2024For a story this short the use of the word brother was a bit overused. Yes, it’s the main relationship, but I don’t even remember knowing what Allies relationship is to them.
Dale is questionable…nothing is resolved about him not being on a business meeting.
I’m giving this 3.5-4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because it has potential.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2023This is a super short, quick read about a young blind man finding his independence while dealing with an overprotective older brother. Only thing I really didn’t like is it’s way too short and I need more lol 🖤📕🥰📕🖤

- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2020I loved the brother relationship of the novella. I actually cried during the heart to heart talk they had at the end. It was touching. The actual romance was fine but I didn't feel the chemistry or any real emotion between them. I feel like it was more about the brothers than the actual romance.

This would have been a good full length book. I am Sad it’s so short. I would have liked to see how Jesse met dale
