Lost in Indigo (Colors of Love Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 361 ratings

Mathieu Beresford was so close to seeing his dream come true.

The thirty-eight-year-old captain of the Buffalo Surge had led his team to the final round of the playoffs with his aggressive defensive play and leadership. During the first game of the championship series, he was taken down, and his leg snapped upon impact with the boards. From his hospital bed, Mathieu watched his team go on to win it all.

Adrift in anger, resentment, and the new direction of his life, he returns to his mansion along the St. Lawrence River. Alone and sulking, Mathieu is not prepared for Indigo Neu to enter his life. The genderflux twenty-year-old botany major signs on to play nursemaid, confidant, and groundskeeper over the summer and slowly leads Mathieu out of his confusion––one tender smile and touch at a time.

The deeper Mathieu falls, the more he wonders if being lost might not be so bad after all.

USA Today Bestselling Author V.L. Locey – Penning LGBT hockey romance that skates into sinful pleasures.

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, Torchwood and Dr. Who, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a pair of geese, far too many chickens, and two steers.

When not writing spicy romances, she enjoys spending her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in one hand and a steamy romance novel in the other.

Just fantastic. Some angst, which is fine. We got our HEA, which is great. We had genderflux MC and I had to look that up. It refers to someone whose gender fluctuates. Gender-flux. I'm slow.

We have a big hockey player MC, Mathieu, who is deep in the closet. He gets hurt in a Stanley Cup game and goes back to his million dollar mansion on a private island in the St. Lawrence River, where genderflux MC's dad is the caretake and big hockey player's good friend, to heal. He meets Indigo, who is working on the island with his dad. Note to self-come back as a hockey player in next life.

Mathieu has a nurse working for him who is horrible. She disapproves of Indigo because she thinks he's tempting Mathieu with his evil, wicked homosexual ways, which he is sort of, but Mathieu likes it. We find out later why she's such a hateful person.

Like I said, we do get a HEA after some angst. The author is quickly becoming one of my favorites only after reading of her three books. She has a great way with nontraditional gendered characters. I'm trying to get away from all the trope filled MM romance books with the usual tropes. She definitely breaks a lot of those. I don't think this is a spoiler, but the big burly hockey player is not strictly a top. He takes as well as he gives. The erotic scenes are hot!

Because of the journey that Mat must travel in his coming out, this was an emotional read. You could feel his struggle with his new relationship with Indigo, as well as his old relationship with hockey. I am a hockey fan so I was able to follow the hockey bits, but I can see if you don't that the story is still understandable because it is about the relationships that Mat must navigate in this time of change. The story is told in his single POV, so you get a clear understanding of his emotions. Age-difference romances are hard for me to warm up to because I can see the future issues after the honeymoon phase has passed. That said, I liked the story and look forward to more in this new series.

This story is both beautiful and surprisingly simple - in a good way. Mathieu is coping with being older and injured, his professional hockey career possibly coming to an end. When he meets beautiful young Indigo, he finds his bright light in the darkness. Indigo helps Mathieu find other things - happy moments - to take his focus off his misery. Mat is not one who just accept change though. He isn't willing to come out as gay and admit that Indigo is more than his employee, because he isn't yet ready to give up on his career or become the first professional player to come out. If Mat doesn't have hockey, what will he do with his life?
This story is all about the relationships in Mathieu's life, with his lover, his agent, his caretaker/friend of twenty years (Indigo's father), his neighbor (beard?), and his homophobic nurse. All these people in his life help Mat figure out over time where he wants to take his life and how he plans to get there. There is love, romance, devastation, anger, and wonderfully intimate scenes. The one thing there is surprisingly little of is hockey, which is very different from what I'm used to from this author. Guess what? It's my new favorite, the most beautiful story I've read from her; and I can't express enough just how many emotions it evokes. I am beyond happy to recommend this book!

I think this book was probably sadly realistic so it was heartbreaking in its scope of those deep in the closet and those that just can't be closeted. Well written but the whole Nurse thing was overdone and her outright homophobia should have been dealt with immediately. Could anyone have a backbone besides Fran and Indigo in this book? Anyone?

I wonder what Mat would have done if he had met Indigo when he was healthy and not facing the potential end of his 20 year hockey career. Because I don't think Mat would have made the same decisions, it was really hard to believe in the strength of his love now.

This book explores the difficulty of having any true long term relationship while closeted, not just finding love. The amount of hurt and indignity Mat dumps on Indigo was just too hard to swallow and made me dislike Mat. Indigo deserved better.

Mathieu is the captain of his hockey team the Buffalo Surge. Watching his team go all the way, lying in a hospital bed. All his hard work and dreams of the Stanley Cup gone, because of broken bones. Lost in his pain all he wants to do is go home and wallow in the pity party he has going.

High on pain killers he meets his caretakers son Indigo. He is drawn to the stunning young man in the blue checkered dress. His reaction to him a reason to not take any more pills. He is in the closet, door firmly shut. Indigo quickly starts opening that door a tiny sliver at a time. Mat is entranced with him. He admits to Indigo that he is gay, the first person he has told his secret to.

Their time together is difficult for Mat. This beautiful captivating man has him tied up in knots. Wanting him forever, but so afraid of what that future would mean to his life, he screws it up. Losing Indigo guts him even worse than losing hockey. He'll just have to fix it.

I enjoyed this book so much. Indigo leapt off the page. I swear I could almost smell his scent he was that real. Together the men made a interesting pair. Mat’s gruff exterior combined with his soft loving center. Indigo’s incandescence and total love for Mat. Very nice supporting cast (with one exception, but she jumped off the page too). Nice story!

Matthieu is deep in the closet , as a hockey player he feels he has no option.
Enter Indigo a free spirit , who shines a light on Matthieu ‘s life and a bitter nurse , and you have a rollercoaster of denial and awakening.

I did enjoy this book and I loved the characters but I'm not a fan of too many sex scenes. Other readers would probably love this about the book but I just felt it took away the plot. I would love to have seen more mischief from the nurse for example.

I love this author and I will look forward to next book she releases. This book I liked but didn't love.

I just couldn't finish this book.. The main character was 38 years old and had no spine and no balls... Weakling, bossed around by some retired bigoted old lady.
    Not my cup of tea.
