Editorial Reviews

Review

"I enjoyed it so much that it has left me eager to check out more science fiction pieces, which must be testament to it's construction. I can't imagine that would be the case if it wasn't a strong novel within its type. Overall, if you are looking for a fun read, some escapism, and a book that will leave you thinking then this is one for you and I would recommend you give it a try. It turns out that the science fiction and fantasy genre has a new fan in me and I have this book to thank for that."

Since graduating, Caitlin has followed her passion for writing and recently won a Young Writer’s Award with Outlet Publishing. In her spare time, Caitlin has a creative drive, creating bookish art in paintings, clay and paper-crafts. She enjoys travelling and has recently spent six weeks in the Amazon rainforest.

Caitlin draws on her science knowledge for The Soul Prophecies series to create emotional stories which query whether the possibility of an afterlife lies in science, rather than faith.

“I wanted to write a series that was personal to me about life and our social development as a species.

The books are based on thoughts and observations about society from the eyes of a young person trying to understand humanity and their role in a regimental society like ours.

I want to challenge the idea that we should grow up thinking that we should be part of the system. At the moment the system punishes free thinking and as a result we are left with this confused culture of opinion, where people want to be heard but aren’t able to be open-minded enough to consider if their opinion has substance – or indeed moral. As a result we abandon the things that once made us happy. We dismiss our dreams like discarded pennies and that’s all they end up meaning to us. Only those who are true to their dreams end up happy with whichever level of success they find.

In Anomaly it takes time for Kyle Hunter to recognise what he gains as a result of his loss, and the tenderness of his relationship with Alice – faced with her own mortality – allows him to understand the value of life and real love. As the series progresses I look deeper into the role our knowledge and conscience plays in the development of our soul. Our weaknesses and our strengths from an alien perspective and from artificial intelligence.”

Top review from the United States

The last survivors of an alien planet are migrating across districts looking for answers to why a woman with pale purple hair and violet eyes keeps reappearing in their dreams. Even stranger, they find the exact woman in a metal capsule. When she awakes, she is mute and unable to provide any answers.

Eventually, the group discovers some old legers written hundreds of years in the past which explain the woman's past and their future. They were all brought together by a force much greater than them, and together are destined to travel into an adventure that will lead to our humanity.

The concept of this book was very unique. I'll be the first to admit that futuristic books are not my forte and that's exactly what I thought I was reading. I was pleasantly surprised to learn at the end that the visions of life on earth were not memories, but visions of what was to come. Despite the futuristic planets and character names, this book actually took place PRIOR to the dawn of civilization! I also loved the explanation of souls and the afterlife. A great book that really stretches both the mind and imagination.

Literary Junkie
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Crossover Sci-Fi
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 9, 2019
The earlier books in the series were urban fantasy and I enjoyed them so much I pre-ordered this expecting more of the same but Lost Frequencies is an EPIC! It's a sci-fi fantasy that's managed to retain the supernatural elements of Lynagh's earlier books but in a completely different setting.

Lost Frequencies is set on a different planet, millions of years before humans evolve but the MC has visions of this other planet called Earth that she doesn't understand. I don't want to give spoilers but there's a clever reason why this happens. Their planet is similar to Earth but their beings evolved differently, more peaceful but with less curiosity and competition, which means they didn't understand how their ways were destroying their planet. There were many similarities to modern day Earth and the problems we face with climate change and even fear and terrorism. There are incredible action scenes and gut-wrenching emotional scenes and the climax had me closing the book to catch my thoughts! I had to compose myself before reading further. I love books that do that to me. Definitely my favourite fiction of the year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping Sci-fi
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 29, 2020
I’ve been in the mood to read some sci-fi for a while and this was recommended to me.
The book gripped me quickly once I had got used to the Iyeekan names and at times the pace was exhilarating. I read it while commuting to work after restrictions eased. I won’t spoil the ending but it took me by surprise and it makes you think. There’s many comparisons to how life is on earth and what we are doing wrong (and right).
I want to read the rest of the series now!
