Lost in the Mind: (In the Mind Book 2) Kindle Edition
When an elderly couple is found dead in their own home, Chevy and Seneca are pulled into the case. But what’s unusual is that it appears neither of them were killed; instead, they simply stopped existing. Even with Chevy’s ability to go into the memories of the victims, he’s unable to tell what happened to the seemingly normal couple.
That is, until it happens again. This time, the victims are found alive, all of them kneeling and staring at a blank wall as if hypnotized by it. It’s up to Chevy and Seneca to figure out what is drawing these people and who might be manipulating them.
But when Seneca begins to act strangely, Chevy becomes concerned that he might also be affected by what is controlling the others. Chevy will do anything to keep the man he loves safe and as far from “The Light” as he can. But is it too late?
Lost in the Mind is 94k words of banter, the strangest salad ever, and the strengthening of a bond (especially after Chevy’s birthday). This book follows the events of Within the Mind but focuses on a new case.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2025Read Alice Winters’ latest book, A Simple Mistake, and reminded me to reread her old books about detectives to I went back to In The Mind series. These books are a joy to read, I love watching these two grow in their relationship as they face a new case. One day I would love more of them. This is definitely a little different style than some of the newer books but the snark and banter is a constant. Definitely recommend!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2023This series was definitely darker and the bad guys were sinister! The love they have for each other and their dog pulls them back to normal. Great story, very different!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 7, 2019This was another great read from Alice. It had me laughing from the start. I love Chevy and Seneca's relationship. I love their banter back and forth and Seneca's sassy comebacks had me laughing out loud a lot through this book.
This one wasn't as scary or suspenseful to me as the first book in this series was. But it still kept me riveted with every page I read. I wanted to know who was behind everything that was going on and was so surprised when it finally came out.
I can't wait to read what happens next with Chevy and Seneca. Alice has definately become a one-click author for me!!
I voluntarily received an ARC for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall 4 out of 5 stars
Performance 5 out of 5 stars
Story 4 out of 5 stars
I'd like to get lost in Alice Winters's mind, for just one day. I want to know how she comes up with some of the things she does, case in point: "Pillage your village." "Titillate your tunnel." "Do something heinous to your anus." And some others I'm not quite comfortable typing out... The things she had Seneca say were so ridiculous and silly, I cannot imagine how she's able to write these things with a straight face!
Lost in the Mind was another twisty turny addition to the In the Mind series. Chevy and Seneca find themselves mixed up in some craziness once again, but this one gets a little personal. And while the bad guy was terrible, I almost felt a little empathy towards him, once all was revealed.
I hope this isn't the last of Chevy and Seneca. I'm sure there are plenty more whackos out there that need to be caught!
Joel Leslie was terrific, as usual. While he didn't have a creepy character to voice like in the last book, there were more than enough voices to keep track of and he did a great job keeping up with them. He's got such a gift, I don't know how he does it!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2019I don't like when people give a huge summary of the book in a review so all you really need to know is that these guys are a perfectly matched quirky couple with a great dynamic. Very well written, super sweet and laugh out loud funny at times. This is a very unique idea with regard to "superpowers" or whatnot and I really hope there's another one coming!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 20, 2024Better than book 1. It’s starting to sound more like Winters later writing. More sarcastic and more sexual innuendo banter. The world and the “gifts” are still confusing, however, as is the conclusion. The police work remains atrocious and not remotely believable.
I smiled/LOL’d a few times, so that got it up to 3 stars. It wasn’t nearly as dark and twisted as the previous book, but I still don’t enjoy it like I enjoy her other series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021Great author, but I was a bit skeptical after reading the synopsis. However, the characters and story were well written and the series enjoyable. Although, the main character was supposed to so extremely good looking, the graphic of the guy on the cover was rather plain and doesn't measure up to what might come into the imagination of the reader.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
Another amazing book from Alice Winters. Seneca and Chevy are brilliant lovable characters full of banter and snark. This book was full of laughs and witty one liners while still keeping me guessing through the twists and turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mindfulness
Seneca so irreverent and Chevy so normal despite his gift. This was a real page turner and loved the interaction between all the characters. Seneca’s mother should be shot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jeez Louise no idea how to describe this
Laugh out loud funny moments. But there is a deeper scarier story unfolding that entertains. Humour is a mask and Seneca wears it well.

4.0 out of 5 stars OTT
I found myself skipping over pages of banter just to get to the meat and potatoes of the story. Really enjoyed this authors work previously despite some seriously dark elements but the characters that were beginning to show in the first book just disappeared under the weight of the stereotypes created by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best name for the bad guy group EVER
I really feel like Alice Winters is growing into her voice - her characters have always been unbelievably quick and witty, and with this second In The Mind book, I think she's hit a really great balance between the witty repartee and everything else.
Contains the usual bedroom (and one tree) hijinx, wacky bad guys, and suspenseful situations.
