Two men in a storm-battered castle harbouring secrets and hopes unknowingly guide each other to an unexpected friendship that turns to passionate love.
Julian Ford's life is at a crossroads. Thirty-four, disillusioned with his screenwriting career and cheated by love, he craves the chance of isolation at his rambling home in the Welsh mountains, Lostwood Hall. But when 21-year-old Lee Benson survives a car crash, Julian has no choice but to take him in.
Their pasts collide, bringing a storm of doubts, fears, a jealous ex-lover and a dangerous thug seeking revenge. Is Julian and Lee's fledgeling relationship strong enough to survive? And do they trust each other enough to escape death?
The Mentor of Lostwood Hall is the fourth in Jackson Marsh's 'Mentor' collection of older/younger MM romance.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2025Another great book. A fantasy life I would like to have.
I have loved all the books I've read by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2020This started off with some minor action scenes, then a long period of conversational exchanges making it feel slow burn but occurring over only a couple of days makes it insta love. No matter, it was decent character building and the plot becomes more fast moving in the latter half, with added characters in a sequence of plot that’s kind of overdone but entertaining, not off-putting. Moderate heat, sometimes confusing tangents in the dialogue. Engaging story.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2019Taking place in a castle on a mountaintop in Whales author Jackson Marsh's THE MENTOR OF LOSTWOOD HALL is full of intrigue, action, mystery and the best of all a m/m romance involving thirty four old Julian Ford, the owner of the castle and Lee Benson, 21 who is running from his sordid past. The descriptions of both Lostwood Hall and its surroundings only add to the excitement created by Mr. Marsh in this his fourth book in his "mentor" series. Watch for one of the minor characters in the book "PC Thomas Evans", who was a favorite of mine. I have read all four novels in this series and could not chose a favorite if I had to as they all were so cleverly written and the older/younger angle of the romances involved just made them all the more fun to read!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2018The Mentor of Lostwood Hall was my first book by Jackson Marsh. I’m a sucker for a forced proximity trope, and this one had my one-click finger going. While there was a lot I enjoyed, there was also quite a bit that didn’t work for me.
Julian is a big-time script writer, and he turns away from Hollywood in favor of his estate, Lostwood Hall. He doesn’t have just himself for company, however, when a man in a car accident needs shelter for the night. And maybe some more nights to come…
Both of these characters captured me with their charm. Julian’s got a very optimistic way of looking at things and an ease about him. Lee is a man running from his past, but he can handles Julian’s smooth-talking with his own boyish charisma.
By the time a move is made, I found myself losing interest. The banter is really on-point, but after a while, it just got to be a bit too much. I wanted a bit more action and less roundabout conversation. There were some other characters, too, thrown in during the latter half that didn’t really didn’t seem to have much point in being there.
Overall, a very good cast that offers a good evening’s read.
3 stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2024We started reading Jackson Marshs' novels this past year. Beginning with his Clearwater Mysteries. They are amazing by the way and if you enjoy historical fiction, these mm novels will captivate. Decided to read some of his earlier work and I must say, I love them. His stories are fresh and don't follow the usual formula so many writers rely on. It would be nice to see a wider variety of age groups ( my only complaint with most mm authors) since there are so many beautiful and wonderful men out there past the ages of 20 and 30 and 40.
So enjoy reading all of Jackson Marsh's stories! Cheers!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2018A complex story of the relationship between Lee, a young man on the run, and his rescuer, Julian, a scriptwriter on sabatical. Lee is in an accident an inaccessible area due to heavy rains and floods, and the only person available to rescue him is Julian, who lives in a large mansion (more like a fortress) named Lostwood Hall. Julian is looking to spend some time alone to recoup and renew his mind and body, away from the rat-race of the film world of London and L.A., and he really doesn't want to have to look after another person, but the roads are impassable, and he has no choice but to bring the injured young man home. Most of the story takes place over just a few days, when Lee and Julian begin to like each other, then develop a relationship, the course of which is well-detailed and doesn't seem rushed, while each confesses to the other what they've been through in their lives; previous relationships, dysfunctional families, unsavory acts, addiction, poverty, etc. Some angst, some violence, some edge of your seat moments, but mainly a sweet love story. And if you're wondering why it is called "The Mentor", you'll find out why at the very end of the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2018Jackson Marsh is a new author to me and I am so glad that I was given an ARC of The Mentor Of Lostwood Hall to review. I love everything about this book and I could not put it down. It is beautifully written, fast-paced, has amazing characters and kept me intrigued until the end. The relationship between Julian and Lee develops quickly but I love the communication between them and how they relate to each other. Lee has never been treated well by anyone in his past and Julian's feelings for him are a revelation to him and he struggles to believe that he is safe and loved. They have a few issues to deal with but their connection stays strong as they face everything together. The very best part of this story is when Julian tells Lee about a conversation he had with his grandfather after his first heartbreak. It is a beautiful conversation that had me in tears and it also shows Lee how Julian feels about him. The ending is wonderful and I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
I was given an ARC to review by the author.

5.0 out of 5 stars so enjoyed this!
Totally enjoyed reading this book. Like the rest of the series, it offers everything in a novel that creates great escapism. It was very difficult for me to put any of these books down. Highly recommended for those who love gay romance, suspense, intrigue and anything you’d like out of a great novel.
Keep ‘em coming!
