LOVE, LOOK AWAY Kindle Edition
Haunted by the loss of Jimmy, she remains wary about love, until she is set up with a gorgeous NYC marketing executive. Love moves quickly, and she finds herself engaged — but if only he had betrayed her before she sent out the save-the-date cards. Sage reverts to her former mindset: love, look away. Forever.
Despite her best efforts, though, two completely different yet wonderful men enter her life. Still haunted by the past, can she let romance back into her life?
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Love, Look Away is set in the same fictional town (Swansea, NY) as my first romantic comedy, Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! This book is not, however, a sequel or a series. Love, Look Away is a stand-alone novel. Some readers will recognize several characters from Molly, including Molly herself, playing supporting roles. And to readers who have never read Molly, but who may wish to do so, rest assured this novel does not give away the ending.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2021I got such a kick out of this book. I’m more of a fan of quirky, funny characters than heavy-duty romance, so this book was a great fit for me. The setting of the main character, Sage, who owns a metaphysical gift shop in a staid old-money town, was perfect. Indeed, the store was quite the magnet for all sorts of customers … and the backdrop for some crazy goings-on.
The synopsis pretty much tells you what the book’s about. But I loved it because the men who come into Sage’s life (after she’s determined to get rid of them!), couldn’t be more different from one another. One is an old friend who’s crushed on Sage for years, and the other is a sexy Aussie who’s in town for an extended stay. Both men are charming in their own right, and there’s a mystery … about Sage’s childhood best friend, Jimmy, which is nicely woven into the storyline.
Lots of laughs, poignant moments, and great twists. I know this book is a stand-alone spin-off from the author's first romantic comedy, Molly Hacker Is Too Picky! so I can’t wait to read that one. The characters from that book, though supporting only, are hilarious! And all-around satisfying and funny read!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2020Snarky, philosophical, passionate. Everything you could ask for in a romantic comedy. Ms. Brodey delivers all that and more. Her characters are stellar. They stand out from the crowd and practically walk right off the page. But it’s the philosophy displayed that kept me intrigued. For example: “And I believe that the people we love most in this world, Sage, whether they’re friends or lovers, are always those with whom we feel free to let go of all the many cloths that shroud us and the masks that we wear, even subconsciously, to disguise our emotions.” That pretty much says it all in my book. That’s love in the proverbial nutshell. Oh, and if you’ve read Ms. Brodey’s excellent romantic comedy, MOLLY HACKER IS TOO PICKY, you’ll recognize the setting of Swansea, NY as well as the character of Molly herself. It was nice to see her there—even in a minor role—much like running into an old friend.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2020Love Look Away by Lisette Brodey is a charming romantic comedy novel. This gem takes place in Swansea, New York, and is as entertaining as it is amiable.
Brodey sets the stage of this tale in a sweet, albeit offbeat gift shop. You can find all things mystical in the shop. Mystical can also be used to describe the characters depicted in this lovely tome. A past love has gone in the blink of an eye. A broken heart leftover from a rebound relationship. And the sweet love offered by two men leaves Sage, the main character, in a puddle of her own emotions.
I love to read a good romantic comedy to lighten the load of the more serious fare I usually have in front of me. Love, Look Away, did not disappoint. While the plot was predictable, the storyline was different enough that I was never bored. I shed a few tears, and I laughed a lot too. This book left me in a glorious mood, and I feel ready to tackle the world with my beaming eyes.
I am thrilled to award this novel 4 out of 5 stars. The utter joy of the characters left me with a feeling of having drunk a few glasses of wine. If you are looking for a wonderful break from reality, this is the book for you.
I would like to thank the author and publisher for gifting me with a copy of Love Look Away in exchange for an honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021Started out as 5 stars, but the more I read, the less enchanted I became. The two women (Sage and Godiva) and their various boyfriends become indistinguishable as the book continues.
And Benton’s sole characteristic was that he used Aussie slang.
It’s a pity because the first 40% or so of the book was enchanting.
(Also, I’ve heard “Diva” as a nickname only to mean a demanding opera star, rather than a nickname for Godiva.)
I wasn’t happy that Adam was only acceptable as a boyfriend after he lost some weight and gained some muscle, even though he was described as “a superior human being.”
grammatical error: “… who kicked Jimmie and I off his property…” The character does not otherwise speak in an uneducated manner, so perhaps it’s the author who is confused about pronouns?
In a very minor anecdote, a dog is described as eating a piece of a jigsaw puzzle and then excreting it, so the owner could rinse it off and finish the puzzle. I don’t think the author know much about canine digestive tracts – they can dissolve bones, so I don’t think a (cardboard) puzzle piece would make it through intact.
The final 20% brought the rating down from 4 stars to 3 stars. The storyline was confusing, the details of Goth Woman were unexpected (not in a good way). I found myself less inclined to continue reading, and certainly not willing to read any more of the author’s work.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2019Once again author Lisette Brodey hits it out of the park! Her stories are complex, full of meaningful details and her writing transports the reader to the exact place where her story is taking place.
She has the ability to switch from genre to genre with ease all while creating strong characters, multiple plot arcs and secrets exposed.
Amazing writer, I adore reading anything she writes!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2020It's like laughing and reminiscing with friends as Sage runs away and discovers love. As usual the cast of characters are colorful enough that you'll wish they existed in the real world.
It's the perfect read to escape my hectic life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful easy, relaxing reading with twists and fabulous characters
There is a natural easy fluidity in Lisette Brodey's writing style that grips you and keeps you reading. From the first page, Brodey catapults the reader into the world of Sage Gordon, and her shop Sage Earth Gifts. The characters are quirky and fun, and the dialogue between them has a natural flow which really engages the reader.
Sage Gordon has had enough with love after the man she is to marry dumps her for her best friend, only to try and win her back. But while Sage asks love to look away, it seems that love has decided to ignore her, as Adam and Benton make their own move to capture her heart. But there is a love from Sage's past that she is not willing to let go. Jimmy Cole was not only Sage's best friend when she was growing up but her first love. His sudden disappearance from her life leaves its mark, preventing her from freeing her heart, to love another. The mystery surrounding Jimmy's disappearance is an excellent twist, and as a reader, you really feel Sage's struggle as she tries to move on and come to terms with what was taken from her overnight. Love, Look Away is a wonderful lighthearted read, which revisits old friends from one of Brdoey's other books. Though the story is standalone it was great to catch up with Molly and Randy again, as well as some other colourful characters. This book is well-written, fun and completely enjoyable.
