Augusta Glower, local success story, wrote a bestseller about the self-help group she started. People think her system works, and copycat Bad Luck Clubs have sprung up nationwide. Something feels off, though, and a little poking around by yours truly suggests she stole the idea.

There’s one problem. I have to prove it, and the guy she ripped off—super-hot house flipper Caleb Reynolds—seems to…well, hate me. Which is too bad since his secrets aren’t the only thing I’d like to peel away.

Casella is a wonderful rom-com about a curious,snarky but somehow loveable journalist and the good-looking contractor who founded the Bad Luck Luck Club in Ashville. The fact that he seems to have secrets to hides and wants nothing to do with the quirky journalist no matter how attractive he thinks she is, just sets the scene for some of the most hilarious encounters I have ever had the pleasure reading. With Love at First Hate, Swank and Casella takes us back to all the loveable quirky townspeople we met in their Ashville Brewing series and add a fee new supporting characters for us to enjoy. One character, Henry, the funny gay conspiracy nut we met a few novels back, is given a larger role in this novel. (Spoiler alert: I really need to see the storyboard with pictures of the turtle wearing hats! I laughed so hard I wet my myself! Facebook or Instagram please!) As usual Denise and Ms. Casella are masters at character development. You start out reading words on a page, but just a few lines in you are magically transported into another dimension. You are no longer reading. You are living a life entirely different from your own. Later, as you close the book, you slowly return to reality, you realize hours not days have passed, and dishes still need to be washed, clothes folded and that fine layer of dust around you may have added another inch! That's the magic talent of Denise Grover Swank and A.R. Casella. And that magic shines in Love at First Hate! Come laugh, come cry, come love but most of all come enjoy Love at First Hate.

    This is a sweet romance full of lovable characters with just a touch of angst. Expect to laugh, cry, happy sigh, grit your teeth, groan and swoon. This is first book in the Bad Luck Club series set in Asheville, North Carolina. It is a wonderful story full of friendship, family, quirky characters, drama, silliness, misunderstandings, and love. Cal and his father, Bear, started the Bad Luck Club which is meant to help people out of their self-destructive ruts. But a former club member, Augusta, has written a book about the club claiming credit and adding rules that make the club potentially harmful to its members. Molly grew up in Asheville but lives in Seattle now. She’s in town dog sitting for her sister. Since she was recently fired from her journalism job she decides to investigate the Bad Luck Club origin after reading Augusta’s book and learning it’s not the truth. On their way to their happily ever after, Cal and Molly have to both accept and embrace that happiness and their life paths have nothing to do with the trauma and harsh teachings of their fathers or significant others. I love when real issues - like family difficulties and grief - are included in romances, it makes for more three dimensional characters and more well rounded storylines. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

    This one was a bit angsty with all the secrets that needed to come to light but WOW! So well done!

    I actually liked the introspection from these two because it wasn’t so much doubt of themselves as growth they both needed to do.

    Molly was so good for Cal to start poking holes in his brooding to help him move on and to move through the book issue with Augusta.

    I really really enjoyed these two and watching them blossom with each other. It started as her poking him for information on the club and then morphed into an attraction that blossomed into a wonderful relationship with some growth to do on their part.

    I also love how the authors didn’t end the story with them getting back together and rushing into marriage and babies. They still need to grow some apart and together ❤️❤️

    This book is the first in the spinoff series, Bad Luck Club. I have been intrigued by Cal in the previous books as he’s the brooding, surly guy that you know has the biggest heart. Molly is a sassy spitfire that deflects with humor. So, you know that when they finally get together it is going to be a wild ride. This book has everything you would expect in a RomCom and more. It’s laugh out loud funny and sassy, while also tender, sweet and sexy as all get out. Molly and Cal have instant sparks but as Molly is perusing the truth behind the Bad Luck Club that Cal co-founded, that puts a wedge between them. Will they be able to put their hearts on the line and overcome it, along with their pasts and secrets? I was so happy to see some of the main and secondary characters that we have come to know and love. This is a fast read that keeps you entertained!

    Hmm, that may be a fun mix with these two. Neither of these two are perfect and the secrets they are trying to hide is ridiculous but makes for some interesting stories.
    Cal is definitely having a hard time moving on after the death of his wife but what I didn't know was that his guilt was misplaced and he really deserves to find happiness. He tries his best to help others but what he really needs is a wake up call and when Molly comes home to help her sister dog sit, she can definitely irritate someone into telling all even the bad stuff. Molly can be a real pain when she's into something but she can be fair. I like her but she's also got to let go of her secret as well. These two can be the perfect couple if they stop irritating each other but who wants to stop that when it can be so much full making up. 😉
