Oliver Ryan suffers from sleep paralysis. It’s so bad that he’s afraid to invite anyone home in case he wakes screaming – or worse.
His dreams are so vivid they feel more real than his waking life. Each night he visits the Church of Shattered Hopes, where people cry blood, watches helplessly as horses devour themselves, or shoots himself through the head because a Hollywood star told him to.
His salvation appears to lie in Welsh witchcraft and psychoactive drugs, yet they also open the door to a world far worse than he could have imagined.
What does the brutal killing of a young girl in 1968 have to do with the recovery of a local coma victim? Ollie is unwittingly thrown into the role of detective.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2012This is quite a remarkable book. The premise seems ordinary enough. Hideous paedophile kills his niece but this particular bad guy uses LSD to render her pliant and when she dies she enters another state of being.
Roll on a few decades and introduce ecstasy to a young man who is vulnerable to such things and you have a unique ghost story, horror story and thriller. You need an open mind for this one but the grounding in the story is so profound that you don't feel for one moment you are being taken into a 'fantasy' world as such. This is all very plausible considering the damage drugs of this nature must do to the mind.
I don't want to give too much away, as spoilers in reviews really annoy me, but this is a very well written tale about the links between the dream world and our own. It's disturbing, exciting, harrowing in places and uplifting in others. The twist toward the end is great and you won't feel short changed by reading it.
If you are looking for an interesting, intelligent novel for the next holiday then this book is the one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't stop turning the pages...
This will keep you on the edge of your seat to find out what happens next. It's a thriller that keeps on thrilling, with strands that overlay and intertwine. It's not for everyone - it is scarey. Really scarey! But for those who explore dreams and alternative consciousness, it is pertinent and accurate. The villain of the piece is a true villain - an urepentant evil person. A very good read. A very good read indeed, and instructive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating concept
Great characterisation and what a page turner. You need to keep up with the story - whether your asleep or in wake :)
