About the author

I was born in a town called Elko, Nevada. I like to tell everyone I was born in a small town in the 1940s. I'm not quite that old, but Elko has always been a little behind the times. This gives me a unique perspective of earlier times, and other ways of getting by. Some of this bleeds through into my fiction.
I moved to Idaho right after the turn of the century, and never looked back. My writing career was born here, with access to other writers and critique groups I jumped in with both feet.
I like to write about things that have something unusual. My works are in the realm of science fiction, paranormal, and fantasy. The goal is to entertain you for a few hours. I hope you enjoy the ride.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2022I’ve been a fan of this paranormal series from the first book, so I was excited to spend some more time with Lizzie and my favorite hat.
The plot is centered around the Sausage Maker, who racks up a few bodies by the end of book. In addition to Lizzie and the hat’s search for the culprit, police lieutenant Joe Yoder is also in pursuit. My heart went out to Joe, who’s still grieving his wife’s death but continues to talk to her.
One of my favorite things about this series is the clever banter between Lizzie and the hat, and it’s always good for several laughs. Another moment that caused me to let out a very undignified snort was vampire Kevin and his sign regarding the Sausage Maker. Trust me – you’ll just have to read it. I was happy to see him make another appearance in this series and hope to see more of him in the future.
Many reviewers have mentioned this book ventures into a darker territory than the others, and that’s fine with me. I’m a fan of dark stories, and I’m anxious to see where the author takes us next. All of these quick reads can be read as standalones, but I’d recommend reading them in order. If you’re a fan of quirky paranormal stories with a dose of humor, you can’t go wrong with this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 19, 2021I’ve followed this series from the start, enjoying the unique blend of superhero antics, supernatural complications, and music a-plenty. Part buddy tale, party mystery, and part adventure, Lunar Boogie is my favorite entry to date for Lizzie and the Hat. This time they’re up against a werewolf on a killing spree, which leads local law enforcement to think they have a serial killer on their hands.
The addition of Joe Yoder, a police lieutenant who talks to his dead wife, brought a new dimension—both on the home front (he misses her terribly) and in crime solving. Normally, the reader witnesses Lizzie and the Hat tracking their quarry, but in this case, we see their progress along with the efforts of the police—and frustrations on both sides. I liked the police procedural element, plus the author’s unique take on werewolves being “the most tragic of all” monsters.
For long time fans of the series, Kevin, the vampire with a lisp, returns for a few scenes and we get more Night Bump Radio (“what goes bump in your night?”). As noted before, Boyack has a vivid and clever imagination. It’s on display here, along with the hat’s trademark snarky dialogue. The banter between Lizzie and her alien sidekick (who has to assume the guise of a hat) is highly entertaining. If you like the supernatural, superheroes, and super snark, grab a copy of Lunar Boogie. You can jump right in without needing to read the previous stories. The author designed it that way. Although the whole series is entertaining, Boyack hit new highs with this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2021I’ve often thought C. S. Boyack has one of the most vivid imaginations of any writer whose work I’m familiar with. Lunar Boogie confirms those thoughts.
This time Lizzie and the hat are caught in the search for a werewolf that is on a killing spree. You’ll meet some new characters including a police detective who communicates with his dead wife. For fans of the lisping vampire, Kevin, he makes an appearance.
This book is a little darker than the others in the series, but nonetheless an enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2021“Lunar Boogie” is the fourth book in the Hat Series, but you don’t need to read the others to enjoy this exciting story. Lizzie and the hat are back with their usual banter, which always makes me smile. I was happy to see the band, Lizzie and the Pythons, playing in their venues, along with past characters who make an appearance, but there is a new killer on the loose that is soon named “Sausage Maker.” The first death occurs during a full moon, and all the authorities find is a few body parts and lots of blood. This catches Lizzie’s attention, but the hat tries to steer her away from investigating it. The story offers a second insight into these murders through a police officer, Yoder. I liked the added addition of a ghost watching over her beloved and the wisdom of a witch. This is a fast-paced read that hasn’t slowed down since the first book, “The Hat.” The mystery of who the werewolf was kept me guessing until the end, and I was wrong! This is a book and series I highly recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2021Lunar Boogie is another action-packed joyride from C.S. Boyack. It is fun to watch the characters of Lizzie and The Hat develop and I look forward to their appearance in more tales.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2021In Lunar Boogie, Lizzie and The Hat find themselves hunting for the notorious “Sausage Maker.” This time, the dynamic duo is up against a werewolf on a killing spree. They bring lieutenant Joe Yoder in to see if he can make sense of the crimes.
The first death happens during a full moon, and all they find are a few scattered body parts with a lot of blood smeared around the scene. There is some nasty business afoot, and The Hat didn’t want Lizzie to get involved. But they are in the thick of it and even the police don’t know what to think. It looks like a serial killer is on the loose!
I liked the character of the police lieutenant, Joe Yoder, who is grieving the recent death of his wife. He often sniffs a pomander soaked in his wife’s Emeraude perfume, which he smells when he wants to feel her near or if he wishes to communicate with her. He’s an interesting character. And I was thrilled when Kevin, the lisping vampire, made another appearance.
One thing to note is that this book is not as lighthearted as the previous volumes. The supernatural is drawing Lizzie further and further into the darkness of their world. I took this as a precursor to what is still to come in future novels.
Lunar Boogie is a stand-alone book. You don’t have to read the series to know what is going on… but why would you miss out on all the fun from the previous books? The banter between The Hat and Lizzie is enough to keep you reading long into the night!
