5.0 out of 5 stars thoroughly enjoyable read

Thoroughly enjoyable read, full of luton history and a great view of how it was to grow up in the town through the eyes of a luton boy.

I was born in 72, but still loved every page, gave me some good insight into the way the town was shaping before I was born and the experiences were familiar of those encounters had by my older brothers - my entertainment as I grew up haha!

A perect gift for anyone who still loves Luton.

    Great work Tim Chaney.

Very enjoyable read - a snapshot of 5 years and all the highs and lows of coming of age. I liked the way the author puts in reminders of what else was happening in the news and charts and sports etc. at the time and what he thought of them. His encounters with girls and bra straps etc are very realistic. I am a decade older and did not live in Luton but found much I could relate to. The author writes very well too.

Got to hear about this book via the "Old photos of Luton" Face book group.I was born in 1957, not in Luton ,but the neighbouring village of Streatley some five miles North of the town.Dad worked at George Kents until his untimely death in 1980.Although not a Lutonian I knew many in my age group who were and can relate to the sentiment portrayed in this excellent book. The places, the music, sport and Tv programmes etc.It triggered many of my own memories of my personal experiences then.
An excellent read and thoroughly entertaining. As mentioned by another reviewer It would be good to know what Tim Chaney's life journey was after 1972.
Thank you Tim and good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars For Farley Hill
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 6, 2015
As a Farley Hill boy that can testify to what now seems like a an era of growing up closer to the Victorian era than to that of today ,this is exactly as it was .Town life , very different to the village and city life , we had a nous , a taste in clothes , music and a code of conduct about how to treat the old , the young , despite the fists and fury that we turned on those of our own age group . I'd totally recommend this book to anyone who grew up in the great working classes of 60's , 70's and 80 's Britain and Ireland .We never aspired to more than making our parents proud that all their selfless hard work was not wasted on giving us a better life, and looking back we have contributed far more than those that at the time thought themselves above us , in creating the best music , the coolest culture , the sharpest humour and supporting the national game that in those days was looked down on, and now has become the middle and upper class's calling card to try and buy into what we have long had. Vive the workers and our uncelebrated history . LTFC Abbo

An Interesting read to someone who also grew up on Farley Hill, but some stories are inaccurate and over embellished.
