I truly enjoyed reading the story of Maya the bee again after almost 50 years. The brave little bee encounters many adventures and learns many life lessons after she leaves her bee hive all by herself. I find it is still a relevant story for everybody, not only for children. The book is beautifully translated and illustrated. I bought it for our childcare library and it is great to read it to the kids, a chapter a day. They love it too.

I did not know the story of Maya the Bee but was glad I ordered this book. This little bee heads out into the world on an adventure of a lifetime. Even though she is intoxicated with life outside of the hive, she encounters many harsh realities in the world for insects. As she learns about life, she meets friends who help her. There are many lessons to be learned along with Maya.

I enjoyed "Maya the Bee" a lot! I couldn't put it down; I just had to find out which bug she was meeting next. I loved all the interactions with the other insects and species. Maya was my favorite because of her free spirit and great sense of adventure, but I like that she develops a deep devotion to her hive as the story progresses.

As a Brit living in Germany, I first came across ‘Biene Maja’ as a 1970s children’s cartoon series. Bit by bit, I came to realise just what a cultural icon she is in Germany. Why had I never heard of her before?

In this coming-of-age story of a fearless female adventurer, Maya explores the diversity of nature in the same way children look at the natural world: up close and with a sense of wonder. ‘Look Mum, a beetle! Look Dad, a butterfly!’ But when Maya talks to the other insects they talk back, telling her all about their lives.

Karin Redclift’s charmingly illustrated translation has updated the language – making it an easy read for children – but retained the early twentieth century atmosphere of the story. Now Maya is all set to be discovered and loved by a new generation and a wider audience.

It's a very nice kids book, would recommend to read it to adults if they haven't. But unfortunately not many illustrations inside, therefore wasn't suitable for my 3,5 year old.
