Mail Order Roslyn (Widows, Brides & Secret Babies Book 9) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 284 ratings

Roslyn Welsh is sent by stagecoach to Junction City to marry a man chosen, without Roslyn’s knowledge, by her auntserving as her guardian. His requirements for a wife were that she must be at least twenty-one years of age with a family Bible for proof, and she must have no children. Only, Roslyn is not quite twenty-one, she has a baby, and her aunt has no intention of sending the family Bible with her.

The marriage prospect turns into a disaster. She is stuck in a strange town with no money and she is told there is no work for a decent woman with a baby. While she figures what to do, Roslyn accepts an offer to ride the stagecoach to the Ellsworth B.O.D. Stagecoach station to help the stationmaster’s wife.

Elam Stewart survived the American Civil War, but his left leg from just above the knee down did not. With no home to return to and realizing there are very few people willing to hire a man with only one good leg, he’s convinced he has no future. While working as a day laborer in the local livery, he becomes intrigued by a visitor named Ross who is anxious to spend time with the horses. Elam discovers Ross’s secret. Then he learns where Ross intends to seek work. Even though he does not have a future, he does have a Spencer repeating rifle. He can have a purpose.

Roslyn and Elam ride the same stagecoach to the Ellsworth Station on the Kansas frontier. Between resentments among the stock tenders, difficulties with animals that pass through the station, and the threat of attacks by the Cheyenne, is there a future for Roslyn and Elam at the station? Or will their future take them on another stagecoach ride away from Ellsworth?

Please look for my other two books in the Widows, Brides & Secret Babies series, Mail Order Lorena and Mail Order Penelope, that will be published this summer. Although each story is written as a stand-alone book, the three stories are related and part or all of them involve the stagecoaches and stations on the Kansas frontier in the 1860s after the Civil War.

Roslyn was sent to marry a man in Junction City. He wanted to use her and not really marry her. Her cousin came on the stage with her daughter which the man she was to marry decided was not for him. Roslyn left on the next stagecoach to Ellsworth station. Elam heard all the fuss between Roslyn and the man she was to marry and her cousin. There was something about her he liked. He went on the stagecoach to Ellsworth station to protect Roslyn. Find out what happens in this story about the stagecoach stations. Lots of interesting facts, excitement, and romance makes the story engaging. I really enjoyed it a lot. I received this book as a gift and all words are strictly my own. This book also can be read as a stand-alone and is very enjoyable.

A wonderful story set in Kansas in 1866.
Roslyn, a young woman travels to Kansas as a mail order bride to a man her aunt had corresponded with. What she finds is not what she expected. The older man only wanted her to help in a homestead purchase but was upset when he found out she had a child and was not eighteen as presented. With little options, we agrees to go with the stagecoach driver to the local station that his wife and he keep up.
Elam Stewart had been working at the livery, and with him having one wooden leg from getting shot up in the war, he was trying to survive. He ends up taking a job at the stagecoach station as well since his livery owner did not have anymore work for him at the moment.
But there are several things going on and he caught on to one immediately to Roslyn's secret.
Zina Abbot's historical research and prose, always bring her stories alive and this one is no exception!
Take the amazing journey with Roslyn and Elam as they try to find their happy ever after!

All mail order brides are different and come across different scenarios. I like how Issac stepped up to help when he didn't have to. I slso thought Elam was right to offer protection for ghis unusual girl.

Loved the setting, the characters. I enjoyed the feisty woman willing to take on the challenge to do what she was train to do, no matter the conviction of the men around her.

Roslyn's Aunt Mena wrote the letters pretending to be Roslyn- the mail order bride. The groom only want her to grab more land, and marry her later on. Elma, post civil war injury, caught the dust up between the couple. It gets better and better, as the story progresses. The research for the time period is correct. I grew up in the Midwest ( Nebraska) knowing about The Homestead Act (160 acres), Stagecoach lines along with different Indian tribe and Their attacks. Reality for the time period is spot on! Reading this makes me long for the area I grew up in. Well written with facts of work available, and limits on women and veterans. After the epilogue, the author explains some of the dates and areas mentioned in the story. A single mother, crippled veteran, gender role limits, Indian attacks, thinking outside the box and love make for a great story. The mule "bubbly " Bleezabub will be the icing on the cake.

Very interesting storyline about a young woman that had been taken both financially and physically by greedy men that lusted over money and whatever they could get illegally. Thankfully, those parts of the heroine’s life was just briefly mentioned thru out the story. Not that her life was easy one afterwards. I enjoyed how heroine was able to use her experience and abilities she had learned as a child growing up min a livery to make a living. I enjoyed the story around working around a stage coach station and the various aspects and hardships people dealt with, particularly Indian attacks. I particularly enjoyed the story telling as the heroine drove the stage coach during an Indian attack and then breast fed her baby afterwards. Very enjoyable book.

This is the ninth book in this series about a young woman that has a baby finding a husband and love

This book was one of the sweet tales. Roselyn and baby Emmy need to find a place to belong. Elam needs this also. The two get together in a way they thought wouldn’t happen for either of them. The station they are at needs them both. Then they find themselves together because they want to be. The livery they have at the end is where their story needed to end with their HEA.
