It’s November, 1879, and the mist-filled streets are not as empty as they appear. Against a backdrop of exploding heads, bullying geese, haunted gas lamps, and sinister, other-worldly terrors, a hapless urchin searches for his lost brother, a gentleman discovers the infuriating complications of love, and a flower girl joins forces with the meanest beast in London. However, as they stumble through each horrific event, one thing becomes painfully clear: there is Murder at the Scrambling Dragon!

Amber moved from Australia to the south of Spain, where she currently resides happily beside the sea. She spends most of her time designing clothes and accessories for her YouTube channel, The Green Marble; designing journals, planners, and notebooks in general (also The Green Marble on Amazon), and recently daydreaming constantly of the stories she's going to write, or needs to finish when she organises her time better. She also dreams of that (having better time management). It's a work in progress.

I don’t know why I continued to read it. Kept hoping for it to start making sense. I think maybe this disjointed chaotic style was deliberate.

I LOVED this book so freaking much! The first book was more of a gothic horror story where this one feels more like a fantasy, magical realism story with subtle horror elements thrown in. This takes place in the same general area of where Carnival Keepers did, but with all new characters so I think this may be able to be read on its own. There are just too many characters to go through them all but generally, the story takes place with many (many) characters going about their day, running into the surreal and unbelievable. There seems to be a strange fog that’s coming into the town along with sinister creatures hiding out in it. Anyone and anything could be a character we follow from normal everyday humans, to mice, to fire people, to witches, to dogs, it’s all over the place. If you are someone who doesn’t like too many storylines or characters then I would definitely say skip this because it can at times get a little confusing. There were some characters who I’d see clearly and know exactly where we were and understand their story arc, and there were some where it took me a little time to remember, and even then I was still confused about some characters still till the end. Each character had their own voice and I had so many emotions going through this. There were some not so nice characters that do get their comeuppance so it was interesting to see what happens to some of them. But there were also some really nice characters that meet a terrible fate so no one is truly safe in this world. There was even one instance where I thought one of my favorite characters had met a cruel end and I was so upset by it. It was so interesting to see everything come together in the end. Something you think that is just a simple or small element to the story has a huge impact later on and it just weaves all together just so well. If you liked the first one then I’d definitely recommend continuing the series.
