MVP Kindle Edition
I was the golden boy.
America's Quarterback.
I was everything to everyone. Always available. Solid.
I can remember how something felt wrong that day.
And I haven't been able to get that feeling to go away.
Not when I buried my child.
Not when my fiancé looked at me like I'd been the reason for it all.
Not when I look in the mirror and scream at the top of my lungs.
Football kept me sane.
But I've lost everything.
And then I got a phone call.
She was in an accident.
She remembered nothing.
A gentleman wouldn't fight for her, wouldn't remind her of the pain.
So, I let her go.
I let her live her happily ever after and I took all the darkness,
all the pain, all the anger.
Only, the universe had a sick sense of humor.
She bumped into me.
She pursued me.
The beautiful woman I used to call mine.
She said she wanted to make me smile.
She didn't know she's the reason I stopped.

My Rating: Five Emotionally Gripping Stars*****
Wow, another fabulous read from Rachel Van Dyken! I read this story originally when it was released in bi-weekly chapters to Van Dyken's newsletter subscribers and fell head over heels for the male protagonist, 34-year-old Jax Romonov. *sigh* Jax was the superstar quarterback for the Bellevue Bucks and the golden boy of American football with two championship rings in only two years, voted People's Nicest Athlete, and adored by millions. He appeared to have the ideal life, but looks can be deceiving. Jax was heartbroken and struggling to maintain the facade of his perfect existence. He'd lost everything that truly mattered in his life and, usually, there's no way to rewind time and make things right. But, sometimes, if you're truly blessed, you can build from the ashes, and that's essentially what this story is about. I fell in love with Jax and his former fiancé Harley. My heart actually ached for them. Jax and Harley were complex characters, trying to deal with the pain of loss, and Van Dyken did an exceptional job of revealing their painful past. It was evident from the beginning of the story, these two lost souls had a sexually charged attraction, but more importantly, they also had an powerful connection, one that refused to be denied, despite the fact Harley was missing the memories of their time together. Every single encounter was emotionally charged. It just broke my heart. No spoilers from me but I will say this... Handsome, caring, and devoted star quarterback determined to sacrifice his own happiness to save the woman he loved-check! Beautiful, sweet yoga instructor suffering from memory loss-check! Painful secrets, heartbreaking loss, gutwrenching angst-check! Undeniable attraction, sweet romance, a love that refused to be denied, and an ending that will melt your heart-you bet! That and a whole lot more!
Did I like this story? No, I loved it! In fact, I loved it so much that I purchased it for my library because I wanted to read it again! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am. MVP may be short(approx 90 pages), but it packed a powerful emotional punch and included everything I've come to love and expect from Rachel Van Dyken. I sniffled, sobbed, outright ugly cried, sighed, and giggled through the entire book, but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and entertained. MVP is a captivating, well crafted, standalone sports romance about the power of true love and second chances. There is some profanity and a couple of love scenes I would rate 2 flames. And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Jax Romanov is the hottest quarterback in the NFL and seems absolutely untouchable. Jax is the guy next door in the sexy as sin, beefcake kind of way. He’s laser focused on football and doesn’t let other things distract him. Jax is fiercely loyal, protective and would shoulder the world if it meant the people he loves feel less of the burden. He is an incredible man and I fell in love with him all over again in this book.
Strong Female Lead: 4
Harley is free-loving, high-spirited yoga instructor that loves football, specifically the Bucks. She doesn’t care what people think of her and does whatever she wants. Harley is sassy, strong and stubborn. I love her sharp wit and bubbling charisma. Her ability to hold her own against a bigger than life quarterback is pretty awesome as well.
Plot: 4
This novella should be read after the other two books in the series because it gives you background into their relationship. Without the background, I don’t think this storyline would mean as much. With that being said, I cried numerous times reading this book. It was so raw and real! Jax was trying so hard to do what he thought was best and it was killing him. I felt their pain and I just wanted the two characters to be happy. I kept wondering if they’d ever get their happy… spoiler alert, THEY DO!
Steamy Factor: 1.5
There was a little steam but the book mainly focused on the emotional side of things. You can definitely feel the sexual tension between the two but it doesn’t graphically play out in the book. It totally was not needed, in my opinion.
Overall: 4
I read this chapter by chapter in the author’s newsletter and let me just tell you that I died every time the chapter ended because I wanted to know what happened next. This may be a short novella but it definitely packs a punch. I grew to love the two characters, Jax and Harley, when reading the first two books of the series and I couldn’t wait to read their story. This doesn’t start at the beginning of their love story but right after a pretty traumatic event. I would have loved it to be longer and more detailed… like a full-blown novel!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2024MVP (Players Game #2.5) was another great read by Rachel Van Dyken. Tragedy strikes Jax and Harley and their relationship crumbles. They not only need to find a way back to each other, but they need to find a way to move on from their past. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2019When I say not so sweet, I mean it was heartbreaking and angsty as hell. It was short, so the events go by really fast and even though I have questions and it seems like the cover-up of the truth seems like and impossibility in real life, I remind myself that it is a companion Novella, even if it’s a standalone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review for MVP by Rachel Van Dyken
I became obsessed with Jax and Harley's story on Book+Main and I was so happy to be able to read it in it's entirety! They went through something that's anyones worst nightmare. What Jax thinks is Harley's second chance is actually Harley's nightmare because she knows that something big happened to her but doesn't know what and no one will tell her because Jax believes he is helping and protecting her when in reality it's hurting them both; being apart of each other. Through the help of Daisy they are able to get their lives back on track and have the future they had had before but one that was cut short. Their story was an emotional rollercoaster that had me laughing, holding my breath and crying but one that will forever be engraved in my heart!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good one but to short
The story line was new and different, but felt as if it was teied to be fitted in a too short span of time or within just few pages. There coukd had been some build up but it started amd ended also instantly.I liked the thought process of tye story line which Intruiged me in first place to read this book. But as i said it wrapped up to early that it felt as a hurried attempt by the author. The story concept and etc was good but i am giving 3 stars as i felt that there was potential in this subject bit the author just tried to tie the ends and finish it.Even the sex scenes felt like unemotional and hurried up.
