I bought 3 of these books for a friend of mine who is currently "out of commission..." Unfortunately, he'll probably out of commission for 20 years or so. :-( Anyway, he loves the books! He said that they were a great addition to the other 2 that were already present.

Glynn Stewart has spun another riveting tale of the Starship Mage universe! In "Mage Provocateur" we continue the unfolding story of David Rice, the former captain of Mage Damien Montgomery - who, together, brought down a major crime lord and his organization. David Rice is now captain of the Red Falcon and finds himself working for the Mage King himself. Non-stop action, great characters and more plot twists and turns that will keep you glued to the story until the breathless end!
I was provided an advance copy of the book for my honest review - I BOUGHT the book so I could have it for my library!

This novel builds on the first entry of the series but far surpasses it. Without having to introduce new characters the story is allowed to flow, to bend, and eventually to resolve into a space battle that has enough surprises that even long time SF readers will be caught off guard. Some twists were contrived, but I took that to be the author’s way of fixing some otherwise thorny details. In all it was a rollicking good time.

Glynn Stewart had an amazing ability to build worlds with enough detail but not too much. The characters he created are as believable as the world he builds. I have read a lot of the author's writing and have thoroughly enjoyed every story.

great follow on to the first novel. building on the storey from the first book I had to keep reminding myself that I knew where the overall arc was going as we had seen it in the mars books with Damien. Nice to see Alaura Stealeys character again as Always though she had been under utilised in the Damien books.
Looking forward to the next book and how it dovetails with what we know is happening elsewhere in the Mage universe.

It’s hard to say whether these stories are about the Ship’s Mage onboard the Red Falcon, its captain, or the executive officer, as all three have pivotal roles. From reading the Starship’s Mage series, I know that the XO goes on to more fabulous things, so even when she’s in heart-pounding circumstances, I know she’s going to be okay.

Less certain is the outcome of the captain and mage, who keep finding themselves in sticky situations that are nail-biting for me. I have to hand it to Stewart here - he writes some of the most believable space ship action that I ever read.

For those of you who are fans of Star Wars, remember your first encounter in that darkened room with the Empire? Remember the Death Star? Yea, Glynn Stewart is Star Wars all over again for me. Every single book. Edge of my seat.
