Mom on a Quest: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (Magical Midlife Mom Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 424 ratings

I deal with fae magic the same way I deal with everything else…with a strong cup of coffee.

I may have stopped one pair of fae from snatching my daughter, but that doesn’t mean life returned to normal. Other sketchy strangers are still gunning for my family. Oh, and my daughter’s rich bio-dad also suddenly wants to contact her. Fun times!

Fortunately, I’ve got my fae co-workers at Stronghold, Incorporated to help me navigate this treacherous situation. It doesn’t hurt that my gargoyle CEO is giving me hot flashes that have nothing to do with menopause.

But I have to tread carefully. If there’s one thing I’m learning about the fae, even those who pose as friends may have their own secret agenda.

Melissa Hartley continues her quest to protect her daughter Regan from magical forces. For readers who like action-based urban fantasy with romance.

DM Fike wanted desperately to become a superhero growing up. Barring that, she would have enjoyed riding a unicorn or at least meeting a fairy. Since none of that happened, she decided to write books about everyday people discovering magic through a series of epic adventures. She’s currently living out her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two wonderful children in Oregon.

More spills! More thrills! More surprise reveals — like a doozy of one I can’t even hint at because my hints stink and you’ll figure it out. So all I can say is big reveal. Big B I G REVEAL. Well, actually, more than one kind of reveal because there is a hosing-off scene that might involve disrobing. Or maybe I’m just making that part up (or am I?). Guess you’ll have to read it and find out.

    On to book 3!

I just love these books! The MC, her teenage daughter, AND their relationship, is 100% relatable, yet also hilarious, touching & heartfelt. And I love getting to see all my favorite aspects of the (young, female) chosen one trope (including found family) but from from the relatable & refreshing perspective of invested adults in her life.
Also, fun, clever banter including gems like this:
"Regan glanced back down at her phone.
“On a serious note, you really don’t think I should say anything?”
"If anyone in the history of humankind has ever gotten into an argument on the Internet and changed someone’s mind, then have at it, I say.” 😆

The situation that Melissa and Regan find themselves in has become a lot more complex, intense and daunting. It's hard to fathom how they're going to win against foes that are about as powerful as it gets!!
Melissa continues to be strong and sane, even as she finds out some devastating information that is deeply personal and some that is deeply disappointing. It's interesting to see her relationship with her mother begin to change and grow.
I love the characters and world building!
I appreciate finding a very well written and intriguing series that is appropriate for YA readers.

I'm enjoying this series so much, and I also appreciate the slow-burn romance and that it is clean of sexual scenes. Kisses are a wonderful way to show affection - no more is needed than that. I like the humor between the mother and daughter, and as a parent at times I wanted to cry relating to how this mom felt. Our children are irreplaceable and precious treasures. I look forward to further binging the series!

I’m enjoying this series so far - maybe because the fact that I, too, am a middle aged mom - but the wider lens focusing on those AROUND the chosen one is a fantastic change of pace.

Mothers of every species are known to be fierce when protecting their children & Melissa is no exception. This is a really good instalment (presumably you’ve already read the first book) & the relationships & characters are developing much more, as well as the story. Some not so surprising developments, but plenty of snarky humour & the kind of Mum most kids wish they had.
