All At Sea (Maisie Frobisher Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition
They say that travel broadens the mind...
When socialite Maisie Frobisher heads off on a cruise to India in search of adventure, little does she know what form it will take.
First some jewellery, then an important document goes missing from an ambassador’s cabin. If that document gets into the wrong hands there will be trouble. And it’s definitely in the wrong hands...
Maisie already has her suspicions of a fellow-guest at the captain’s table. However, when he turns out to be a police inspector travelling incognito and takes over the investigation, Maisie’s nose is put firmly out of joint. Then a crime of an entirely different kind rears its head, and Maisie finds that the past she is trying to escape from just won’t let her go...
With less than two weeks until the ship reaches port, can Maisie put aside her prejudices and learn to work with Inspector Hamilton? Can they trust each other? And most importantly, can they find that document before it causes an international incident?
All At Sea is the first book in the Maisie Frobisher Mysteries series, set in the mid-1890s.

About the author

Liz Hedgecock grew up in London, England, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. After several years working in the National Health Service, some short stories crept into the world. A few even won prizes. Then the stories started to grow longer...
Now Liz travels between the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries, murdering people. To be fair, she does usually clean up after herself.
Liz’s reimaginings of Sherlock Holmes, her Pippa Parker cozy mystery series, and the Caster & Fleet Victorian mystery series (with Paula Harmon) are available in ebook and paperback.
Liz lives in Cheshire with her husband and two sons, and when she’s not writing or child-wrangling you can usually find her reading, messing about on Twitter, or cooing over stuff in museums and art galleries. That's her story, anyway, and she's sticking to it.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2023ALL AT SEA is a fun, light, historical mystery set in 1893 aboard a ship sailing from England to Bombay, India. The heroine, Miss Maisie Frobisher, is a young woman of wealth, traveling with her maid to see what she can see of the world. (Oh! A girl after my own heart!!) She has no definate plans except to enter the society of British India and see what happens. She’s a bit spoiled, and a bit sea-sick for the first few days on the ship. She’s almost ready to abandon ship, but…
Soon the persnickities and prospects of the people around the Captain’s table (where she is seated) begin to interest her. “Oh, my. Who is that attractive Mr. Randall? Why are the Smythes so uptight? Why is Mrs. Jennings have such a tight hold on her silent daughter? Who is that pale and silent man seated next to the Captain? As the voyage continues to exotic posts, their stories and a few criminal endeavors emerge. And of course a death.
Can our spoiled heroine discover the dastardly goings-on about the ship and nail the perpatrator?
This is a delightful peak into first class travel and the manners and etiquette of the Victorian era. Fortunately, the mystery is not fully discovered by the characters (or the reader) until the very last day of travel. And, oh my! Could that be a flicker of romance brewing? Looking forward to more of Miss Maisie Frobisher in India.
I have only one very tiny “bone to pick” with the author, which would have made this a 4 1/2 star review. Unless mentioned in the same paragraph, I was constantly confusing the names, Miss Frobisher and Miss Fortesque. Couldn’t the names have been less alike?

- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2023“All at Sea” is my first story that I have read by Liz Hedgecock. It is an enjoyable romp in a time when a cruise ship wasn’t an amusement park on water. The references to how passengers spent their idle hours was enlightening. There were also references to land excursions that had me wanting to travel there. A murder to solve just added the perfect touch. Especially since Liz had well developed characters, enough twists, and just enough romance to make it…so far…my best read of the summer. (I’m about to embark on the next novel in this series, so am holding Best Read open until I have finished the series!)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2020I thought this book was boring,to say the least...and even at that, I was being generous...the story was fair but needed more color , feeling and plot!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 28, 2024This kindle e-book novel is from my Kindle Unlimited account book one of four
Maisie is on a ocean liner on its way to India when strange things start happening. She becomes a problem and part of the of looking for a robbed and blackmailer. It all works out for the best.
I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of romantic relationships mystery novels 👍🔰. 2024

- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2022The description of a voyage and all the daily routine and social events match my personal experiences from many decades ago. I travelled several times on P&O liners, notably the Canton, to and from Hong Kong with my parents.
This was a delightful read, but the reader has to remember the mores and expectations of the Victorian era in order to make sense of some happenings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy, entertaining read.
A lovely book I enjoyed it so much I ordered the other 3 in the series and can’t wait to read them.

3.0 out of 5 stars Simplistic
This story is rather simplistic, and there are a host of inaccurate historical and nautical details which are distracting. I would have given it 2 stars but as the first book of a series I am allowing some leeway - perhaps later books might improve. As it stands, it is an unsophisticated but quick read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read that keeps you entertained.
I was not as quickly taken with Maisie as I have been with other Hedgecock heroines. However by the end of the story I was eager to start the next and had developed an affection for her childish approach to people and events. The interaction between Maisie and Hamilton feels similar to that between Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy (If Elizabeth was a more like her younger sisters) and I look forward to seeing how their relationship evolves.
The mysteries were engaging but not impossible to solve so the reader can work with Maisie to uncover those responsible.
A fun read, that keeps you entertained.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining
But for this reader, not as good as Caster & Fleet (I’ve read all). Think it’s to do with India as the setting (which has never appealed), with the cast of characters same as other books set in that era. I will read Book 2 and hope it has a bit more Oomph.

5.0 out of 5 stars Splendid!
I have read Books 1-6 of the Caster & Fleet Mysteries, which I loved. Not wanting the story to end, I was delighted Maisie Frobisher also has a series of adventures.
Book 1 was splendid and I grew to like Maisie very much. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!
