Say It Like You Mane It (Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild): a runaway bride, hot cop, stuck together small town rom com Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,445 ratings

What happens when a hellraiser turned hot cop is stuck with a headstrong heiress he’s determined to protect...and resist?

A run-away bride, wearing a freakin’ tiara, and carrying a stolen lion cub, of all things. This was not how rowdy, bad-boy-turned-small-town-cop, Zander Landry expected his day to go.

He really didn’t expect his night to end with her sleeping in his bed after her near-kidnapping.

But his intense attraction to her and the feelings of protectiveness she stirs up? Oh, yeah, he knew those were coming.

She’s stunning, whip-smart, and trouble with a capital T.

Which means, he needs her to head right back the way she came. ASAP.

His town is exactly the way he wants it . . . crazy and trouble free.

Well, the crazy trouble he’s not related to anyway.

Stranded in a tiny town in her half-million-dollar wedding gown with no money and no place to go . . . today is going pretty much
exactly the way Caroline Holland expected it to.

But the grumpy, tattooed, oh-my-god hot cop being the answer to all her problems isn’t at all what she expected.

Now that she’s turned all the criminal (and obnoxious) info about her exotic-animal-dealing ex-fiance over to Zander, she can kick back in a hammock with some sweet tea and relax.

Or not.

Turns out Caroline’s not the spoiled heiress Zander thinks she is. The gorgeous hellion wants in on the action and soon discovers just how dirty things can get in the bayou. And the bedroom.

More and more, Zander just wants her safe on the sidelines. But Caroline isn’t going anywhere until justice is done.

It’s a clash of wills that’s gonna get hotter than a crawfish boil in July. And the most fun the Landry family has had watching sparks fly since . . . well, the last book.

From the Author

Zander stomped to the door and jerked it open, stepping out into the late afternoon.
He didn't know how the woman had gotten down here, but surely she'd returned the same way. Whether she'd driven herself or had hired a car...

But nope. Of course not.

He was definitely not going fishing today.

She was sitting by the road on her suitcase with her fancy-schmancy wedding dress dragging in the Louisiana dirt that covered his grandmother's parking lot. Her head was bowed, and her shoulders were slumped. She looked sad and alone and dejected.

Well...crap.

He looked up and down the road as he started toward her.

No sign of a stalled car. Why couldn't she have had car trouble?

No unconscious body either. Why couldn't her groom have had too much to drink at the reception and she'd pulled in here for help when he'd passed out in the car on their way to their honeymoon suite?

No, it wouldn't be anything easy like that, would it?

But, he knew exactly what to do with a woman who'd been left at the altar.

Take her back inside Ellie's.

There was plenty of booze just inside. And other women. He could easily pawn her off on any of the girls, who would tell her all about what a jerk the guy was and how she deserved better and how she'd come to the right place to drown her sorrows.

She'd be drunk and laughing in no time. Then he'd take her over to the B & B, have Heather put her to bed and feed her in the morning, and then he'd drive her wherever she wanted to go when she felt better.
Feeling a little more optimistic, he approached her.

He had a lot of women in his life, but they weren't the cry-over-being-dumped types. They were more the cut-off-his-balls-and-feed-them-to-the-gators types. Now that he was in law enforcement, he couldn't cover for them like he would have at one point, but they all also knew better than to tell him flat out about anything like that. And he knew what questions to
not ask.

"Ma'am?"

Her head came up as he approached, and Zander realized that she hadn't been crying at all. Her head had been down, strands of hair falling over the side of her face because she had been hunched over her phone.

She seemed confused when she looked up at him. "Yes?"

When her eyes met his, Zander had to take a second.

Stupid romance novels.

That was his first thought. Well, after cataloguing that her eyes were a stunning aquamarine blue, her hair was at least three different shades of gold all streaked together in thick waves, and her skin was smooth and creamy.

All of those were descriptors that came straight from the pages of the books he read with his friends in their romance book club. No way would he have noticed all of that before he'd started reading those damned books.
A really hot blonde would have done it.

But she
was gorgeous. Not just from across a dim room with a tiara-halo on top of her head, but right up close along a dirt road too.

And that was all the most clichéd thing he'd ever heard.

Thought.

Whatever.

Still, he had to pry his tongue from the roof of his mouth.

Because of all the stupid romance novels he read. And movies he watched. And country love songs he listened to.

And because he was a Landry.

He sighed.
Mostly because he was a Landry.

He might not have actually thought the words "aquamarine blue" without the books, but he would have had the
wow, she's something special thought trip through his head because of his DNA.

The Landry family had as much romance in their blood as red blood cells. They were genetically programmed and then nurtured from the crib to believe in love and fate and soulmates and romance.

Some of them just went with it. Some of them fought it.

But none of them were immune.

This book - wow. And Zander and Caroline - double wow. From the first sentence, this book just hooks you in and takes you along for the ride. I just loved Zander’s protectiveness and his inner monologues. I also loved Caroline’s joy and light. Zander is a cop in small town Autre where his entire extended family lives. He believes his purpose is to keep everyone safe. Caroline shows up one day in a wedding dress carrying a baby lion that she wants to surrender to the animal park. Zander realizes she is his soulmate the moment that he sees her but he is determined not to give in to it. But with Landrys, “they loved big, and loud, and hard, and had no problem falling head over heels in the blink of an eye,” so Zander is fighting a losing battle from the first moment he saw Caroline in her tiara. Zander and Caroline’s journey to their HEA has a little bit of everything - three dimensional characters, witty dialogue, and engaging storylines plus sweet moments, fan your face steam, side splitting hilarity, tearful scenes, a tiny amount of danger/mystery, and all the heart squeezing love you can handle. This book is fun, of course with a large crazy bayou family involved, but also expect to cry, swoon, and cheer along with your snorting laughter. I love all the bayou stories and the loud Landry family, but Zander has now taken over the spot for my favorite H of all time.

This little town of Autre Louisiana is amazing and I swear I have never laughed so much from all the craziness that goes on here with the Landry family and friends. This was about Zander who is the police chief here and the older twin of Zeke. Zander is all about keeping his family and town safe. He doesn't have time for love or even a relationship as he is always basically on duty.

Then, one morning she walked into his grandmother Ellie's restaurant. Everyone stared because this gorgeous blonde wearing a sparkly wedding dress and tiara showed up with a luggage bag and also carrying an animal carrier. When she asked for Donovan, one of the towns animal caretakers Zander felt relief. Moments later when Donovan opened the carrier to find a 4 week old lion cub she got up and walked out.

Knowing his family was staring at him and pushing him to check on her, Zander finally got up and went outside to check on her. She was sitting outside on her luggage and was mumbling into her phone. Then a limo pulled up and a man got out telling the woman to get in the car. Zander found out her name was Caroline. When the man started pulling her towards the car, Zander stepped in.

I absolutely LOVED this story. The give and take between these two is palpable. I really like how close the Landry family pulled this stranger into their loving arms just when she needed it most. Caroline wants to get to the bottom of this illegal animal trafficking case even if it involves her family. But Zander just wants to keep her safe.

Oh my heart!!! This series is amazingly hot too! I have been so excited for the next book about Knox and Fiona! Bring it on!!! Enjoy

Easy to follow stand-alone. No editing errors, gratuitous violence drag-you-down drama. Not all questions are answered.

Enjoyable romance with a focus on animal safety. Descriptive writing draws the reader into each scene. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking and occasionally snarky dialogue. I wish the author had spent more time on the main characters instead of jumping into a new couple and the next book.

No desire to re-read this story. I am interested in other works by this author.

My heart 100% belongs to this messy, outrageous, rowdy Landry clan. They live life out loud and love with every cell of their being. Even with their well-meaning interference and nosiness, out of love of course, and their madcap shenanigans, once they open their hearts to someone, which they do easily, you’re forever part of the Landry clan. And the more I visit them in Autry, LA, the more I need more.

Zander Landry is the protector of his family and his town. Sure, he's dates every pretty tourist who passes through and likes to sneak away on his fishing boat to relax when he can, but he watches over his family and community. His first priority is making sure that nothing can get close enough to those he loves to cause them harm. If anything looks the least bit suspicious, Zander is on top of it. So when a runaway bride shows up at his family's bar with her suitcase and a lion cub, it's Zander who finds out the story about their unexpected visitor.

Caroline Holland is not impressed with the surprise wedding she was to attend as the bride. And the lion cub her unscrupulous fiancé gifted her with has her showing up in Autre where she knows there's a wildlife specialist who can care for the cub. Zander may be doing his best to get her to return to New Orleans, but Caroline knows the Landrys can help her.

With this crafty wrıter’s clever wit and sassy sarcasm, we get a story with a little drama and suspense, some undeniable chemıstry and plenty of tųgs to the heartstrings. While plenty of madcap hilarity ensues, the great bıg helping of bayou heart, the warm sense of family and community, and the Landry boys who are a lot like a pile of baby goats will stick a bıg ol' ‘gator grin on your face and zap your heart with all the happy sighs!

It’s laugh-out-loud-snort-your-drink and absolutely-don’t-read-in-public hilarious. Then it has some awesome “you go girl!” moments and tender, heartfelt moments, and it's just the all-time best of emotional rides. Definitely don’t pass this one up. I mane, hot, protective bayou cop and sweet socialite with a social conscience, who can resist that? Rawr!!

Lordy, another trip to Autre and another Landry boy to fall for,,,

I always love an Erin Nicholas trip to the bayou. Catching up with the Landry clan is always fun, watching another one of the guys fall hard is especially entertaining….. especially when they fight against fate, in their heart knowing they can’t win.

Zander has been there throughout the series, taking care of everyone, doing his protector thing and, while we as readers always expected him to fall for the ‘one’, it seemed he never saw that happening for himself. Always happy to watch his brothers and cousins find happiness he’d convinced himself it wasn’t for him, he had too much in his plate, too many people to take care of, until he met Caro. She’s nothing like he expected when he first came across her, but absolutely everything he needed.

Caroline came in like a tornado, caused a little chaos, interrupted Zander Landry’s plans for his small piece of the world, and kinda found herself…. eventually. I really liked Caro. She played a role most of her life but when Zander got to see the real woman underneath she was a breath of fresh air and gave him a calmness and safe place to land when he needed it.
She was sweet, determined, wanted to do her bit to help fight the bad guys and see justice done but, kinda like Zander, she’d always looked out for others, not really considering her own place and desires. Dropping into Autre and taking some time to breathe let her work out what (and who) she needed and wanted.

As ever we had the Cajun craziness you can’t help but expect with this group, add in a couple of new (Landry related) faces and Carolines best friend Max, a bit of intrigue around what the ladies have been up to and the feistiness and heat that this couple have and we had another fantastic read in the Boys of the Bayou Gone Wild series.

I cannot wait for the spin-off and to meet some of the ‘badges’ we’ve been introduced to …. and to see how - what I’m hoping is a potential match up - plays out

5* definite recommended read…. but if you haven’t done so I’d say to start at the very beginning so you catch up with who’s who in this crazy family and to ensure you don’t miss any of the Landry fun….

Another visit to my happy place, aka Autre, and the wonderful Landry family. This time it’s hot cop Zander’s turn to feature in our day dreams; muscles, long hair tattoos and a protective streak a mile wide. When Caroline stumbles into the family bar in a wedding dress and carrying a lion cub, Zander comes to her aide and so starts this wonderful story. Zander’s internal dialogue alone makes this book worth the read!

I may never leave the bayou. The stories set in this town are so entertaining. The entire family, from grandparents, aunts, and uncles make every day a great day on the bayou. This story centers around Zander and Caroline and a more meet-cute story does not exist. We have a runaway bride, an instant thrill of attraction, a lion, a cop. a menagerie of animals, a romance book club attended by the men of New Orleans, so many wonderful romance novel references that made me laugh out loud, characters from other books that make an appearance, a wonderful easter egg and the aforementioned family make this an enthralling read.

I enjoyed seeing her find her place in the world. I love the side characters we met, Spencer and Max. Can’t wait to read about them.
