Matchmaker: A Single Dad Fighter Romance (DS Fight Club Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 43 ratings

The Single Father
While a genius at pairing up fighters to make the most exciting matches inside the octagon, Buddy Thomas hasn’t had much success in finding his personal perfect match, not that he’s really been looking. His daughter, Lucy, is the only woman he needs in his life.

His Daughter’s Teacher
Molly Mayhew isn’t looking for anything but a fresh start. After a disastrous liaison that almost cost her career, she vows never again to date the father of a student.

The Matchmaker Meets his Match
Buddy intrigues Molly, who finds the matchmaker’s frank attitude a little unnerving. Likewise, Buddy finds Lucy’s sweet and soft-spoken teacher a refreshing change from the brash women who populate the fighter world. But Molly is gun-shy about getting involved with another parent, especially when he has a complicated past. Can Buddy convince Molly that he’s not like the other guys?

Josie Kerr is the self-proclaimed Queen of Snark. The former academic turned Instructional Designer loves puns, technology and witty jokes. When not writing articles about how to fire someone without getting sued or why you should really not apply for jobs using your antiquated and likely inappropriate AOL email address, she writes steamy romance novels that feature grown-up Heroes and Heroines.

Josie currently finds herself in the State of Georgia in a semi rural area that soothes her Texan heart.

Seriously. I am so glad that one book turned into eight, but uhm, Josie....can we have some more? Please?

    Eight is not enough.

If you're looking for a well done fighter romance, you NEED to read this series.

I enjoyed that this story was not about a fighter, but a fight matchmaker. Molly is 40, single, and the kindergarten teacher for Buddy's adorable daughter, Lucy. Lucy and Maude won my heart. So cute! Buddy and Molly were equally socially awkward, which made their first encounter fun.

Molly had a past interaction with the father of a student at another school, so this was her fresh start at a new school. After "meeting" Boone, I could sympathize with Molly. Buddy's story included his ex and almost wife, Natalie. She was much younger and was not interested in being Lucy's mother. Buddy's desire to be Lucy's dad and only parent actually taking care of her was endearing.

As the story unfolds, there is quite a bit going on and a hilarious scene when Buddy and Molly try to make out at her place. Lou is priceless!

It is one of favorite things to have other characters in the series show up in other books. It is the after the HEA storyline for them. I like knowing where their story goes, even when I have not read their original romance. It can make me want to read their book in the series.

I would have loved to have had more about Buddy's matchmaking with the fighters. I would have liked to have a bit more time for Molly and Buddy on their own.

Note: I received an advance reader copy. This is my honest review. I have purchased and read another book in this series, and I plan on reading more in this series.

Oh, let me first preface my review by alleviating any fears you may have: this may be the last of the DS Fight Club series, but there are still MORE books to follow in this awesome universe! (Richards men, Harper brothers) Phewwww.... I admit, I had a bit of a panic when the author noted that this was the last of the DS Fight Club!

This is one of my favorite series, and the perfect ending for the fighter stories. I loved both Molly and Buddy... and even though they were new characters to the world, they fit right in like they've always been there.

Buddy is probably one of my favorite book boyfriends... he surprised me. I was expecting a big obnoxious alpha type, and he wasn't anything like that. Sure he's hot hot hot (and alpha), don't misunderstand me, but he was so sensible, thoughtful and just amazing as a parent. I loved how he didn't want to speak ill of his ex, even when I found myself yelling at her via my Kindle. He is just a class act, and I loved everything about him.

Buddy and Molly have a wonderful getting to love you story, and I enjoyed every single minute reading it.... Also, all of the secondary characters from previous books in the series made an appearance, and it made me want to re-read the whole lot of them all over again!

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this title

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I was very pleased to be able to read this one without reading the others in the series.

Buddy is not a MMA fighter but rather a fight matchmaker. He’s also the daughter of a precocious kindergartener whose mother is a flighty and self-centered actress that seems to move in and out of their lives with no notice and less consideration for how it impacts her daughter.

Molly is a teacher who thought she had escaped her indiscretions with a man at her prior school who claimed to be single but wasn’t. She loves the little kids she teaches and her adorable big dog, Lou.

I am never sure just what the main character(s) in MMA romances will turn out to be – sometimes they have gone past “alpha” and straight into “jerk” and I can’t like them but I really like Buddy. While he’s strong, capable, and protective, he isn’t a jerk and is very likeable and wholesome. He’s devoted to his daughter and you can just feel the love he has for her.

Molly has paid the price for her foolish affair and is trying to move on and be more careful. So parents should be off limits but Buddy has her intrigued and she adores his daughter.

This was a really fun book – more so than I thought it might be. The hero and heroine are doing their best to avoid falling for each other, along with the help of Molly’s dog, but you can see them falling and falling hard.

I’m going to buy another book in this series, since I enjoyed this one so much.

Note: I received an advance copy of this in return for my honest review.

I've been following the crazy folks at the DS Fight Club for sooo many books now! And this story was refreshing in that the "fighting" was in the backseat. Instead, we had a socially awkward single father of a kindergartner, along with an equally awkward kindergarten teacher. Molly's past has made her cautious and Buddy's experiences with Lucy's mother have made him leery. I adored the two little girls to pieces - perfectly written as far as their giggling, fascination with all things sparkly, and just plain fun. Molly's mother cracked me up and her father and his search for the perfect Guinness? And let's not forget about the biggest doorstopper of all, Louise, Molly's huge Mastiff who is more lover than fighter. I wish we had had a bit more of Buddy and Molly prior to the epilogue, but the book was good either way. And of course, all the cameos from the previous folks? Just makes it seem more like a family you're visiting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Single father meets Teacher.

Take a single father who has had a bad home life growing up. Mix in a narcissist ex ,a sweet daughter and a teacher with a not so great romantic past and you get another win for Josie Kerr.
Buddy is a matchmaker, a tough man, with a soft spot for those he loves. He would do anything to protect those he sees as his. He meets his daughter's teacher and sees a woman who loves children unconditionally. Something his ex Natalie can't even fake.
Then we have Molly, who has been burned by her ex. Who is a real BaBoone, a liar and an abusive cheat. Molly just wants to go home at the end of her day to her "clam jamming" dog Lou. Life has other plans for her. With some great advice from her hysterical parents .She decides to give love a chance. Buddy and Molly of course don't have an easy go of it. When is life or love ever easy.
Throw in the rest of the DS Fight Club and the gang is there for the ride that is Buddy and Molly.
