Sabine and Thomas must make their escape, and it won't be easy. Her uncle considers her a ticket to curry favor with Napoleon and won't let her disappear without a fight. To avoid detection, the couple must pretend to be amorous newlyweds and this proves the most difficult task of all. Because it isn't long before neither of them is pretending and every night, there's only one bed.

About the author

I can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to be a writer when I grew up, but there were plenty of times when I wasn’t sure I ever would be. As it turns out, it just took me about twenty years longer to grow up than I expected!
On the road to publication, I took a few detours, including a stint in academia (I hold an MA in Classics from the University of Chicago and was a recipient of a Mellon Fellowship in the Humanities) and many years as a technical writer/instructional designer for a data processing company. I still hold my day job, but my true vocation has always been writing fiction and romance in particular.
To stay informed of my release schedule, you can sign up for my newsletter (which I only send out when I actually release a book) or follow me on Twitter or Facebook. As a matter of public record, I tend to be a lot more active on Twitter, but also a lot more political.
I’m a firm believer that love is the most powerful force in the world, which that makes romance the most powerful genre in the world. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2021Format: KindleSent on his first mission for the Foreign Office, Thomas Pearce must get the illegitimate daughter of William Pitt out of France. Thomas is a diplomat not a spy, but he is determined to succeed. He reveals the danger to Sabine from her uncle's lies that she's a spy. If captured she would be interrogated by the French, then executed. Sabine will leave, but not without her beloved horses. Another problem that Thomas is determined to solve for her happiness. Together they will flee across France with a price on their heads, the threat of betrayal and to ultimately fall in love. Intense and very steamy to erotic, they can't keep their hands of each other. This is a very, very good novella and is included in the ROMANCING THE PAST anthology.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSabine and Thomas will make you swoon. Set against the backdrop of Napoleon’s France, this romance with a side of spy craft contains one of my favorite tropes—only one bed. 💗
- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2018Format: KindleHow have I missed out on Jackie Barbosa's books? I can't believe I have just discovered this author - I am looking forward to catching up on her backlist. A Matter of Indiscretion is a lovely, super sexy and steamy romance with interesting characters that you won't want to put down.
Thomas is looking forward to his first assignment for the Foreign Office. He is surprised to learn that he is ordered to France to retrieve the illegitimate child of the PM. What a surprise. He is willing though as this assignment will lead to bigger and better appointments.
Sabine is an orphan who raises horses - she has no idea she is the illegitimate daughter of a powerful man. Thomas portrays himself as a cousin who is delivering family jewelry left to her in a will. Sabine is also upset to learn that her uncle is trying to either marry her off or have her arrested for treason against Napolean.
Thomas convinces Sabine to escape with him to England - this is the start of a sexy back-and-forth between the two. Thomas can't ruin the PM's daughter and Sabine can't seem to keep her hands off Thomas. Is this love or lust?
Sexy, sexy and steamy. Wow, I really loved this book. I loved the characters, I loved the steamy (hot!) scenes and I loved the chase across two countries to deliver Sabine into safety. Very highly recommended. Ms. Barbosa has a new fan!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2018Format: KindleThe plot was well written and well planned out and the characters were written with great detail and depth which kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book! This was the first book that I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2018Format: KindleLoved the story, it is well written, very sexual and highly erotic. Thomas, a soon to be diplomat is sent to France to bring back the daughter that William Pitt never knew existed. Along the way back home, he and Sabine fall in love and they become sexually involved but she still retains her virginity. The sexual encounters are well written and very explicit in description. The trip from her home in France to the port takes longer than planned and then they are separated at the dock in France with Thomas remaining and Sabine returning to England. There is a very HEA
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2018Format: KindleLoved it. Historical romance. Sabine has to decide what to do when she finds out who her father is and what her step uncle plans
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2018Format: KindleThis is a delicious, erotic filled, historical romance that kept me completely engaged throughout the story. The historical tidbits were perfect for the story and I never felt like it they were dumped on me. I enjoyed the premise of Sabine’s birth as well as the plotline that followed as a result of it. She was a strong independent woman, especially for the time and Thomas understood that about her and supported her in her dreams. Even to his own detriment.
The angst level is very low with just a bit of an elevation toward the end but that tiny bit was enough to really bring the ending into a place of sheer joy. Secondary characters are varied and fluctuate throughout the story with only one or two remaining consistent and do not outshine the hero and heroine. The heat level is extreme as in be prepared for your Kindle to melt.
I really enjoyed Sabine and Thomas and their relationship. I am definitely going to check out other books in this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided by NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2021Format: KindleDiplomat and British Agent Thomas Pearce, has his work cut out for him when he has to extract Sabine Rousseau from France before her uncle's machinations cause her demise. This is a fairly steamy romance between the newbie agent and the young lady who has been plotting and planning her independence. Determined not to leave her most valuable assets behind, what should have been an easy in-and-out operation, becomes complicated and fraught with danger. There is some suspense, romance, and witty banter to keep one entertained, and the novel closes on a happy note. I received a copy of this novel as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
