May Day at the castle!
A beautiful but mysterious woman arrives in the castle courtyard one night as the baron's replacement to Lord Ricard Wellington's betrothed. With eyes like emeralds and a smile that could melt even a hardened warrior's heart, Lady Flora Debenham quickly captures Ricard's interest. However, she is feisty as well as disobedient and keeps sneaking out of the castle walls. The woods are dangerous and filled with druids, who he believes have killed his parents. Fearing for her safety, he follows her, hoping to learn her secrets.
The druidess
Lady Flora takes her cousin's place as the handsome Lord Ricard's betrothed, but it is naught more than a ploy to get close to the druids who are hiding nearby. Her dying mother reveals to her that her father was a druid and that she was conceived at the festival of Beltane. The woman's last wish was for Flora to find her father and return a sacred icon to him.
The knight
What starts out as nothing but a means to an end turns into an attraction to a man Flora never intended to marry. Ricard treats her like a queen, and she starts to fall in love. The only wedge between them is that he has vowed to hunt down and kill the same people she is trying to protect.
Will vengeance prevent the seeds of love from blooming?

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2019Lord Ricard Wellington wants to find his parents’ murderer(s). Lady Flora Debenham wants to find her father, who she has never seen. The problem is they are looking for the same people, a group of Druids dwelling in the forest around Ricard’s castle. This creates a difficult (to put it mildly) circumstance. Lady Flora has just been presented, by her uncle the Baron, as Ricard’s bride in place her cousin, Lady Gretta. There is to be a marriage, but will their cross purposes deny them a chance for love? What will happen if and when they find the Druids?
This is a fast-paced adventure filled with fun, fantastic characters, and a look at May Day rituals and celebrations in Medieval times. Ricard is brave, loyal, kind, and protective. He may be a little too concerned about what others think of him. Flora is feisty and determined, a bit sneaky and disobedient, and quite brave. She drives him crazy, but she is not alone. Ricard’s brothers and his squire frustrate him and add a big dose of humor to the story. The Holiday Knights series is interesting and entertaining. I recommend May Queen. It will make you want to dance around the May Pole.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020I didn't care for the H, he came across weak and not in control. He could be talked out of things easily and that is not my kind of H.
The h lied and lied about her really reason to being switch with her cousin and who she was. I didn't feel a connection at all to them. This is a clean story with only kisses.
There were some interesting moments which I took into account with my rating. I wanted to know the uncle's reaction to their marriage. I couldn't understand why the H wanted to marry so quickly, when he knew the h wasn't truthful about anything. But, with neither one trusting the other, they declare their love. I just didn't buy it, which I am obviously in the minority on this.
No cheating, no cliffhanger for our couple, no romance and clean. I enjoy stories about Druid's and fae, but this just didn't do it for me this time. (ljb)
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2020Ricard woke a little after midnight to the baron bringing his betrothed to him but it wasn’t the baron’s daughter it was his niece. Lady Flora wasn’t wanting a marriage but she wanted to find her father. Flora’s father is a Druid. She found him in the forest but had to leave so Ricard wouldn’t know where the druids were. Ricard wanted to kill them for his parents death. Ricard and Flora married and Flora went to give her father the sacred necklace her mother’s dying wish but didn’t want her father go to Ireland. Ricard found Flora at the Beltane festival and the consummated their marriage there in the woods. A fight broke out and Flora’s father saved Ricard’s life but lost his own. The next day was maypole day and Flora was may queen.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2023Such a good story. These two likes each other at first look. But didn’t know the other would fall in love so quickly. They had a rocky start getting to know one another but then it all fell into place. Acceptance of one another’s family was a huge hurdle to get over. But it was their love that made it happen.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2020While this story is, of course, fiction Elizabeth weaves in lots of interesting historical tidbits about the little known Druids. This fascinating story gives you a glimpse into what the life of a Druid may have been like and how people of that era interacted with them. Her characters are full bodied and full of intrigue, danger and of course romance. It has it all. You can lose yourself for a few hours in their world and see what the celebration of May Day is all about.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing
There was not much of a story & at times the things the medieval knights say was far too modern words & out of context. It drifts along to a very obvious conclusion.
