Shadows & Dreams: A Protective Hero Romantic Suspense (Dream Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 824 ratings

(Previously published as "Maybe Baby.")

“That was definitely hot,” I said, propping myself up on an elbow to look at him, “going all ‘Christian Grey’ on me like that.” "Who?" he asked, totally clueless...

I wasn't prepared for what was in store for me when I took a summer position at Sinclair Stables before my junior year of college. After all, it could only help with my chosen field of equine studies, right? My first encounter with Trey Sinclair wasn't a pleasant one to say the least. I didn't realize he was taking time away from his law firm in Atlanta to oversee his family's business in Bristol Virginia over the summer.

He was definitely an alpha who liked exerting his power . . . and his prowess. And then there was all this weirdness going on there. Like something from a Hitchcock movie. I was there with baggage I didn't realize I had. Trey Sinclair turned out to be my protector . . . and so much more!

Dream Series

Trey Sinclair always gets his way. That is, until he meets Tylar...

Atlanta attorney Trey Sinclair always gets what he wants whether it's in the courtroom, the bedroom, or on his family's horse farm. But when a bombshell is quite literally dropped into his lap, he can't help but be drawn to the feisty, independent, and strictly off limits Tylar Preston. But Trey never takes no for an answer and Tylar desperately tries not to break her own rules.

It's only a matter of time. They both know it.

What they don't expect is their intense and irresistible passion or the danger Tylar finds herself in because of a secret from her past.

This is a 4-Book Series which needs to be read in order: Shadows & Dreams, These Dreams, Shattered Dreams and Dream Lover

Maybe Baby Book 1

Be My Baby - Book 3

Shattered Dreams -Book 3

Life's About Love . . . And Life's About Pain . . . My life was about to get even better! Trey and I had a new home, complete with horses for me to train. Preston was growing leaps and bounds; and so happy to have a baby brother or sister on the way. Tristan and Gina had just welcomed their new son into the family. All was good. Until it wasn't. Sometimes life can deal a bad hand or two and you don't see it coming. I will always love Trey. Trey will always love me. But is that enough?

Baby Come Back - Book 4

Dream Lover - Book 4

Being Tylar's best friend wasn't nearly as easy as I made it look. Keeping my secret past from Tristan was even harder. My name is Gina Valenti Hatton, and I'm an East Coast girl. I'm Italian, a bit outspoken, and to those who know me, I'm tough as nails.

I live a lie.

There's a part of me that is terrified that he'll find me. And now that I'm with Tristan Sinclair, all thoughts of my past are starting to fade. But Tristan knows I'm keeping something from him, and when my darkest fear shows up, my only hope is that we can survive my past.

Wow...this series just captivated my whole weekend. What birthday party for my son? My mind was constantly elsewhere when this book wasn't in front of me.
Let's start with the hero/heroine. When starting this book, the heroine came across as your typical smart, sassy fun girl with some background issues. The hero had the whole too hot to trot (pun intended) serious, brooding and sexy persona going for him.
Let's stop right here for a second. Let me tell you that I have already read all 3 in this series (and am itching to get at 3.5, but knew that I needed to get these reviews done to clear my head). I'm going to try and write this review using my opinions and thoughts just in reading IT and not the series, because my viewpoints and opinions on book 1 changed after I read the others.
    So vroom-vroom, let's carry on.
So in my OPINION, I actually found the heroine irritating in this book. I felt that in her head she was very mature and "worldly" but her actions spoke of someone more immature and craving attention. Now, looking back on this (because it quickly changed in book 2), AND MAYBE BABY (ta-hee) I'm reading too much into this, but I actually found that in fact the heroine was quite immature, but for good reasons. See, she is learning to grow up in this book. She is a young heroine that didn't really have anyone raise her, she DOES crave attention because she never received it. It's actually kind of refreshing to read a character that acts her age of 19/20 years old and has mommy issues. Is it annoying, yes, but as the story grows and so do the charters you see it as her just being what she is and nothing more and it isn't annoying anymore. She grows up from this, this is the only area I found her to be showing her youth in her actions.
Let me just break it down for you real quick: Hero and heroine meet. Right off the bat they don't get along, but the hero is attached. He is the total possessive hero. However there are several breaks and a slow build up to their relationship. There is a HUGE misunderstanding but a TOTAL spell out to clear it all up. There is heart break, there is anxiety on what the characters are up to, there is DANGER, there is HOT SEXY SEX SEXYNESS. There is CLIMAX (literal...and...well, literal).
By the end of this book, you are CRAVING the second book. I loved the characters (well,MOST of them, Caroline and Landon are the exception, but it's supposed to be this way) and came to love other characters further down the line in the next book.
I totally recommend this book. If you love a hot hero that's possessive, charming, sweet and THOROUGH in the sack, then Trey is your man. And if you love your heroine to be honest with herself and be true to who she is and see things through, than you'll love Tyler. I can't recommend this series enough. I'm kind of wondering what I might be missing in reading the Lite versions and not the full length. One of the things I enjoyed most about this series was that there was always something going on. Even if it didn't pertain necessarily to the story as a whole, it was still enjoyable to read. I loved that most issues were stamped out very quickly and things, even the anxious parts, were still fun to read.

I like her writing style, but boy does she need an editor.!!!!!I would give her A's on story construction, plot line, jokes, dialogue and the ability to create unforgettable characters. There are absolutely no problems with her pacing and back story. Even though it was a long book, I found it a very easy and quick read. The dialogue is fresh and snappy and I found myself chuckling quite a few times.
However, and this is a BIG pause...... She is in desperate need of either a good proof reader or editor and I mean desperate. The mistakes are so obvious that I was completely jerked out of the story several times and had to take a break. The mistakes are all over the place too. She has missing articles, double negatives, positive and negative words together, poor grammar and spelling and the ones that drove me absolutely nuts was using crazy contractions and mistaking "taught" for "taut" (and for some strange reason I see this mistake a lot!).
Was the book worth reading? Yes
Was the book worth the $2.99 price? Yes
Will I read the next book in the series? Yes

Wow, simply wow, this book is really good! Like really, really, really good!
If you like books about hot/controlling alpha males in their 30's and young and innocent heroines in their 20's, this book is for you!

I came across the Baby series books (4 books in the series) by accident and I'm so glad that I did. In short books 1-3 revolve around the main characters Trey and Tylar. Trey is a 30 year old lawyer that comes from a rich Virginia horse raising family. Tylar is the beautiful, 21 year old college student that works for his family horse farm during the summer months. They meet during one of his visits and the attraction is instant, however they don't get involved right away as Trey is a bit of a controlling (and over protective)douche.

In short, here is what I loved about this book:
    1. The length of the book itself! It is long! LOVED IT!! Because of its length, we get a complete story on these characters and on their romance.

    2. The characters. Wow, they are fleshed out; they are so well developed that they became very real to me and I'm now so invested in their lives.

    3. Amazing and likeable characters. Trey is hot, possessive, alpha and totally in control; Tylar is beautiful and a tad naive. She comes from a damaged background; however, she is not intimidated by Trey's wealth. Moreover, she isn't a total pushover and she is willing to push and challenge Trey.

    4. Their love story. The romance is slow to develop but the attraction is instant and when they finally get together, boy do they get together (hot sex scenes galore and yum!)

    5. The story is amazing, simply amazing. I fell in love with these characters as I read their story.

    6. The ending of this book! It has a hell of a HEA. Their story continues in book 2 and 3 (I loved it so much that I quickly bought the rest of the books in the series--I'm currently reading book 3 and boy and I loving it!)

    7. I highly recommend these books.

It's been a long time since I've read a proper long novel (500 pages) that has a sequel! Have now downloaded all the next ones and have a new favorite author. The story doesn't stagnate at all but there is no jumping too far ahead either, the characters are strong and extremely likeable and aren't unbelievable nor unrealistic. I won't go over the story or give anything away other than it's really well written and I totally lost myself in it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great storyline, a little old and 'grey'
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 23, 2016
I'm not usually a fan of romance, you know how it is, we all expect the fairytale, mainly end up with a nightmare...

I related to the female lead, Tylar, very early on, she is a loveable young woman, hurting by a haunted past.

I loved Hot Nazi too, Trey sounds scrummy.

Why only 4 stars? The sex scenes were mostly unnecessary, I'm not a prude, the first few excited me, but as with 50 shades, I found myself skipping them. Same words, same dialogue, same instruction, same same same. I understand they had sex, I don't need to know how he filled her sex, how she tasted (great. every time). I just want to continue with their affair, I wanted to get lost in the plot, not really knowing how it'd turn out, I wanted twists and turns, which there were, I wanted surprises, which I found, I just wanted more. And less.

An all round feel good, long, mostly enjoyable novel, a definite page turner in many places, well worth a read. And the sex scenes only ever take 1-2 pages, but she tastes great you know.

4 amazing, over the top stars.

This book had everything going on for itself. Love, hate, angst, drama, suspense, and still oh so many questions unanswered from Tylar's past.
I know most people seem to hate cliffhangers, or stories that continue with unanswered things, but I freaking love them.

In this book, you have Tylar and Trey. Two people who seem to not fit together at all at first, but then you never want to see them apart again.
Trey is controlling, a bit misguided in what he sometimes says, and so very, very hot.
He's in love with Tylar, and even though I found he didn't show it quite well at first, he made up for it in the last half of the book.
They are perfect for each other, and you totally root for them.

“He reached over, cupping my face in his hands and lowered his face to kiss me gently. I was so in need of my Trey fix; I felt at peace.”

What's fun about this book is you get to not only love the main characters, but also other ones. I loved Gina, and I really loved Tristan.
