- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2020What would you do if faced with killer ants, a fruit that drinks human blood, or the end of the world? Those are questions that the youngsters in this collection of delightfully scary, but often funny, tales have to answer. But you'll have to read to find out how they did! 😉
This is a fun book that's geared towards younger readers, but still has enough substance to keep adults entertained. As the title says, it's only volume one, and I have to say I'm definitely looking forward to the next collection from the twisted imaginations of these two wonderful authors! Five stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2020This is a bundle of eight standalone short stories with different themes. I won't attempt to parse each because, being shorts and more for a younger reader, there's not a lot of 'gory' meat on some of these bones, and doing so would probably reveal too many spoilers. But I can say all eight are entertaining (in their own way).
What I will say is... being shorts, some of the stories were a bit rushed in places, and could have benefited from a 'little more' suspense before the 'reveal' without making them too long.
In closing, my review breakdown is one 2-star effort, one 3-star effort, four 4-star offerings, and two 5-star level stories, with a final score of 3.9... so I'll give it an even 4.0 stars for the eight stories combined.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis collection of stories alternates between the works of two excellent authors. Each story is just the right length for a perfect escape. The first one has a sweet poignancy. The second story has an emotionally troubled man facing a possibly real horror. The third is fun Sci-Fi with negotiations between species and clever interference by determined children.
“The Jumping Game” is a gripping dystopia set in future Florida, with solid world-building and intriguing characters. Florida has been severely damaged by hurricanes, fires, and more; now it’s a lawless land with desperate people. “Blood Grove” shows how the evil acts by one person with power can spread, bringing ruin to many. It’s a detective/murder/horror story with a deadly vampire plant. Last is a tale of three city men camping in the wilderness. Can they escape the tiny, deadly killers? These stories are entertaining and well written.
