The Mercenary's Mate (Blue Solace Book 1) Kindle Edition
Leti Ando needs off planet and fast. He has a best friend and a new half-sister to rescue, and he needs to be sneaky about it. Unfortunately sneaky isn't really his thing. With the help of a friend, Leti and his menagerie, along with his two companions, stow away aboard a mystery ship. Little does he know that The Blue Solace belongs to the infamous mercenary, Captain Will Hackett, a man he'll come to love with everything inside him.
Will has been in a bitchy ass mood for the past six months. He's restless and grumpy, but doesn't know why. He knows he needs something and he can't find it, but his crew are out of patience and insist on some R &R back home at Charybdis Station.
Then Hack finds a stow away angel and everything changes. Leti is his mate and he'll do anything to keep him safe and happy, even smile.
The galaxy's not a safe place, though, and The Blue Solace has a job to do: pick up a renowned scientist and his mysterious artifact. Then get them safely back to Charybdis Station. Hack and Leti don't realize their romance story is about to get hijacked by Concord mercenaries. Their love is easy, it happens just like that. Staying alive and keeping the galaxy safe? That's a little harder.
Author's Note: 41,801 words. (Previously published as "Happens Just Like That"). This is a m/m love story with no angst and no cheating, just a HEA. There is lots of action, sex, mpreg, and a few potty mouths involved in the story. 18+ readers only, please. It is also the first of two books about this specific couple.

About the author

I have been self-publishing m/m romance since October, 2018 and enjoy sharing my books with readers all over the world. I'm also a reader and I love to read everything I can get my hands on, especially m/m romance. My favorites are mpreg, sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal. I have four series right now.
1). My Hobson Hills Omegas series is light and sweet non-shifter mpreg. They are novella length (35,000-45,000 words) and angst-free.
2). My Blue Solace series is a sci-fi/fantasy romance and has more action and adventure. The romance, however, is still light and sweet. They are longer (40,000-60,000 words).
3). My third series is called The Silver Isles and is a paranormal mermen trilogy. They are also a little longer than Hobson Hills (45,000-50,000 words) and are low heat and light and fluffy.
4). My fourth series is a paranormal, mpreg series of holiday short stories called Holiday Omegas (10,000-14,000 words). The first few stories follow one couple as they meet, fall in love, and develop their relationship.
If you like zero angst, light and fluffy romance, give one of my books a try!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 30, 2024What Leti expected after climbing out of one the 3 crates holding his best friend Draif, his baby sister and his many assorted pets (including a dragon) — it wasn’t the handsome, mercenary Captain Hack! Enjoy the awkward meeting of omega Leti and alpha Captain Will Hackett, their discoveries, dangerous adventures and their steamy first moments as mates!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2019Leti is a people person. He brings people into his family group and doesn't let anyone go once he has claimed them. Leti and his "little" group escape his home world abroad mercenary Will Hackett's airship. When they are found on broad Will realizes Leti is his mate.
Will captains the Blue Solace but his crew are more like family than crewmates. When Leti brings so much love and acceptance into Will's life and the lives of his crew Will realizes how much he has been cutting himself off from the world around him.
This story had so many wonderful characters and such a good storyline. You can't help falling in love with all the extended family that comes into Leti and Will's life. There is also Dr. Morrick and the element he is researching. Dr. Morrick fears the element is a threat and there are a lot of people out to steal both Dr. Morrick and the element for nefarious purposes.
There is a lot going on in this book but the book flows so smoothly and the storyline is so interesting that you get to the end of the book before you know it. I didn't have any trouble keeping up with Leti and Will's friends and family and they all felt needed and I couldn't think of a single one that I wouldn't miss. This is a series and the story continues in the next book ( which I've already read) and I can't recommend this series enough. You will be missing out if you pass this up.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2023This story was low-angst and very, very sweet and fluffy. If you don't like Instalove, you won't like this - but I do, so I did. :) It's very much Instalove. The story is also infused with a good deal of humor, especially surrounding all the pets that Leti can't help collecting (which I'm thinking may be a theme in CW Gray books?). Leti is so endearing with how empathetic he is, and I love how Will is just a total goner after he meets Leti. All the side characters, like the crew members and the admiral, are likewise just so sweet and powerless to resist Leti's charm. The more I think about it, the more I just really loved this book *squee!* I am excited that the second book in the series has the same 2 MCs.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2019I came to this series after finishing the most recent book in C W Gray's Omega series. Expecting the lightness of that series I was blown away. While the expected strong character development is there complete with laugh out loud humor, the quirkiness of pets and aliens was an unexpected gift. High action and tension are relieved with moments of charm. After four plus decades of librarianship I can honestly say this is the best science fiction series I have read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2022This book is pure fluff and chaos. The two MCs don’t spend a lot of time together; they mostly spend time in the book talking to other characters. Their own relationship takes a backseat to the newness of their plight. The whole book is about them gathering people into their family and crew and creating a found/chosen family. It was fine for a palate cleanser if you’re looking for something to read after an intense book.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2024I have read all of these before. I love this group of characters. It would be a five but I get tired of trafficking and torture being used to evoke our emotions. I can engage and feel empathy for a character without this horrible stuff. 😢 it makes me sad that these stories are so many real people's everyday existence and it is used in entertainment for emotional reactions. In tv, books, movies.... it never stops.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 11, 2020This book is so good, I have it in ebook and Audible. I read the Hobson Hill series by this author and did not know if the author could keep up with that standard of writing. I must say that the author crafted this new world beautifully. Quirky characters, with plenty of pets, building diverse families on far off planets. There is lots of steamy love, too.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2020This whole series is just so good, and Will and Leti are at the heart of it, the OG couple. The over-arching plot is very engaging, intriguing, adventurous etc. And then each couple's personal books and subplots are equally entertaining and sweet while still being full of danger and some heartbreak. But overall these books are pretty low angst, full of cutesy couples with HEAs, and have a rich cast of characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the crew
Leti and Will are adorable. I love all of Leti's pets, all the kids he ends up adopting. But I especially love the Blue Solace Crew and can't wait to read more of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a fun m/m series
This is my second time reading this book and I like it even more than I did the first time. I can’t help but think that it would make a great science fiction tv show. As long as the sex scenes were cut out of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love & Action
This is my third time rereading this book, and it's still as good as the first time around. The relationship between the MCs is amazing to read, and the background action story keeps you wanting more. You can't help but fall in love with the characters, they are all lovable and unique.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3.75*
He is a feared space mercenary. Nothing shocks him anymore....until he meets his Mate. And then the shocks come thick and fast.
Firstly...he wasn’t looking for a Mate.
Secondly...his Mate is not the expected ‘she’ but a ‘he’.
Thirdly...his ‘he’ has a bed-slave...that isn’t.
Fourthly...his ‘he’ must be a distant relation of Dr. Doolittle - how else do you explain all those pets?
Fifthly...his ‘he’ has a baby with him!
Sixthly...it looks like he is going to war over a very dangerous artefact
Seventhly...that baby his ‘he’ had with him, is in fact, his sister and it looks like that sister is going to have a brother or sister, because after a very short days, his ‘he’ is pregnant with his own baby.
Yep, Captain Will Hackett is shocked.
