About the author

Welcome to my author page...first off, I was born in Huddersfield in 1981 and have lived here most of my life apart from a few years which were spent away at university- Manchester Metropolitan to be precise. I started my writing career by trying my hand at poetry and entered a collection into the Eric Gregory Awards a couple of years running, unfortunately never getting an award. I did however receive some praise for my collection from a published poet and reached the later stages of a competition.
It has only really been in the last few years that I have turned my attentions to novel writing as I felt that my poetry skills were perhaps not quite up to the standards of the very best out there and so I got down to producing my first novel- Head of an Apostle- a dark and unusual science fiction book with philosophy, twists and turns and drama all mixed in.
I plan to continue writing novels and hope that I can one day get a good following of people who enjoy the books and want to read a few more perhaps.

It is a very good book. I really enjoyed reading it.
It's about a guy named Mervano who one day meets another person who gives him a pill. After taking it, Mervano begins to feel the effects and tells a story of being lost. Then he finds a castle and kills the king, then gets lost in a huge maze.
While trying to find his way out, he meets a crow, a frog, then a goblin and the princess (and another thing), and they all travel together, trying to find their way back to the castle.
Do they make it?
Read on to find out what happens.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe author published this book without ever editing it. Instead of scene breaks he has made the. All into chapters. The contents need to be edited. I love a good story, but when it’s not edited I will not waste my time with it.

Mervano by James Tingle is quite a different type of novel. I like the plot summary and the cover. Yes, sometimes a book cover can make me buy a book. However, I finished reading the book, and now I sit here trying to figure out what to write. So, let's start with...
The characters
Mervano
He is our main character and for the most part, reminds me of someone’s uncle. You know the one that people invite over because he is family, but no one wants to sit by him? I think that is Mervano. At times, he seems nice, but then he opens his mouth, and I cringe. My thought while reading this was how could he still be a police officer? Honestly, I am not sure why this little band of people even hung out with him. He insults them all at one time or another.
Oh, and how did his wife put up with him?
Princess/Queen Val
This Princess was rescued from a horrible goblin by Mervano. I don’t understand why she hung out with Mervano after that. But then she danced after hearing of her father’s death. She has crazy mood swings, but come on. And where was her carriage when she went to visit a Lord? Why didn’t she take some guards with her, she is royalty?
Craw
Craw is a crow who talks and is befriended by Mervano. I really don’t know why he continues to follow Mervano. Ok, maybe it’s for the chance to eat something other than worms and puddle water.
Likes:
• Craw. I would like to talk to a crow. Although, I would expect him to be more intelligent.
• The fantasy world. Complete with castles, talking animals, trees and such.
• The characters they met while traveling were honorable and didn’t cheat them.
• They helped Old John find Mary. That was a nice touch.
3 Stars for Mervano by James Tingle
My rating for Mervano by James Tingle is three stars.
And yet, I feel that I need to explain that. I actually finished this book. I laughed a few times, was repulsed a few times, and the ending left me wondering. But I understand a good trip. I will stop reading a book if I dislike it or something really doesn’t work. And it isn’t that the book doesn’t work it’s just I have never read anything like it. Oh, and it is exactly what the plot summary said it was. So, there you have it three stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A humerous fantasy novel
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe character of the main person in this novel came across very well, as one would imagine a New York cop would be.
The plot ran along very quickly from one situation to another, meeting different challenges along the way. There was a very varied collection of fantasy characters that blended well together to form a cohesive and friendly group.
