Mid-Novel Writing Prompts: 100 Inspiring Ideas For The Fiction Book You've Started To Write (Writer's Craft) Kindle Edition
Whether you seek to boost your own imagination, to rekindle your passion for a book project or to release a creative block, these prompts will get the juices flowing.
To stimulate the flow of your imagination, I provide some ideas for every prompt: guiding questions, what-if scenarios, and suggestions how you might interpret the topic. While they may not be an exact fit for your novel, they will open the flood gates so your own ideas gush forth.
Please note: this is not a novel-plotting guide. If you want structural help for your 'sagging middle', you may find my book Writing Vivid Plots more useful.

She is also the acclaimed editor of Gothic, Fantasy and Horror anthologies (e.g. Among the Headstones: Creepy Tales from the Graveyard) and author of the bestselling Writer’s Craft series for advanced-level writers, including and the bestselling Writer’s Craft series e.g. Writing Gothic Fiction Writing Scary Scenes, Writing Vivid Settings, Writing Vivid Dialogue, Writing Vivid Characters, Writing Deep Point of View.
Born and raised in Germany, Rayne Hall has lived in China, Mongolia, Nepal and Britain. Now she resides in a village in Bulgaria, where men perform the annual demon dance, ghosts and sirens beckon, and abandoned decaying houses hold memories of a glorious past.
Her lucky black rescue cat Sulu often accompanies her when she explores spooky derelict buildings. He delights in walking across shattered roof tiles, scratching charred timbers and sniffing at long-abandoned hearths. He even senses the presence of ghosts… but that’s another story.
Rayne has worked as an investigative journalist, development aid worker, museum guide, apple picker, tarot reader, adult education teacher, belly dancer, magazine editor, publishing manager and more, and now writes full time.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2017These prompts are specifically designed to help you get the creative juices flowing whenever you are stuck. All of Rayne Hall's prompt books are good for this to some extent, but these ones are specifically DESIGNED to not jar you out of whatever work in progress you're currently banging your head against the wall, trying to finish, but to coax you to experiment with a new creative direction with what you already have. Recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018I write a lot of reviews and also write pulp fiction
(Crime, Mystery, Thriller, Horror).
Therefore, I tend to look at books a wee bit differently
than most other readers.
I don't give 5 stars for reasons you can probably figure out.
I did give, Mid-Novel Prompts, 4 stars, based on the thought
provoking ideas the author packed the pages with.
It is a relatively short book and it can be read in little more
than an hour, which is good, because now you can get back
to rewriting some of the scenes in your own story.
What are you waiting for?
Go get the book, and get back to finishing your book.
Shoo.....Go......
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2017So, I am always looking for a way to stimulate my creativity when I'm in the middle of a story. Occasionally, I can't turn on the faucet and I have to turn to a prompt or two to make up the difference. It usually happens in the middle of a scene or the story. Anyway, if you are in need, you should make the purchase. It will be well worth it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2018These prompts really help to flesh out ideas for writers. If your story is stuck, this book will help breathe new life and interest into it! Extremely useful.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2017Good content but a heading of "Prompt # Whatever" is meaningless. The conflict/question should be the heading. You have to scour the book or do a fuzzy search to find the prompt you need. Once there, the author does offer some thought-provoking questions. I hope an updated, indexed version comes out.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2017Rayne Hall's writing prompts are (for me) nicely middle of the road. They aren't so generic as to be a blinding flash of the obvious, but they also aren't so extreme that they wouldn't fit into a real-world story (my stories are mysteries without sci fi, horror, or supernatural themes).
I like the recommendations accompanying each suggestion. The additional questions provide more aspects to consider, each of which acts as a prompt in itself.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 3, 2017RH is one of my mentors and I buy everything she writes. Highly recommend this author if you are in a learning mode.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2017I'd buy anything that Rayne writes. Her instructions are concise and useful. Highly recommend her series. You won't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars ideias interessantes
Curto e direto ao ponto. Da algumas ideias para o meio do livro. Recomendo a leitura. Mas não espere prosa longa

5.0 out of 5 stars Hail Rayne Hall.
I love Rayne Hall. She has inspired me, and I have learnt so much from her technical books, I have purchased them all, and refer to them often. In my opinion, she is one of the very best authors, out there.
Her fictional books are great. 'Storm Dancer', is a favourite. Her Ghost stories will have you looking over your shoulder. She writes in so many different genres, the lady is amazing. Don't take my word for it folks, check her out for yourselves, I promise you will not be disappointed.
