Million Dollar Devil Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,871 ratings

Big-city sophistication meets carnal hunger in this devilish contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

Heir apparent to her father’s company, Lizzy Banks needs a man. The perfect man. But when the rich “fundbabies” she usually rubs shoulders with prove impossible to hire, she takes a chance on a raw beast of a man salvaged from the wreckage of a bar brawl.

James Rowan earns a modest income as a YouTube daredevil, but he can’t refuse Lizzy’s million dollar deal. As she polishes his rough edges, creating a sophisticated gentleman fit for the highest circles of society, not only does she bring out the perfect man—it’s like she’s making the man of her dreams. How can she resist?

Though Lizzy loves seeing James in his clothes—and out of them—he isn’t the kind of man you bring home to Daddy. Her father’s disapproval and the pressure of the campaign have her eyeing the straight and narrow, but Lizzy’s finding it awfully hard to resist the devil on her shoulder…

I just adored this book!

I just adored this book!
It’s been too long since I’ve read a new Katy Evans novel. I just adore her characters and storytelling. I’ll admit that it did take a bit of time for me to connect with James and ELizabeth, but once I did - it all just clicked into place. Once that happened, I couldn’t get enough. ELizabeth is an heiress with more money than she could do with. Her wants are all at her fingertips. Except the one thing that every little girl wants. Love, affection and pride from her father. In the high society that is her world everything is business. Even her personal life reflects on the family’s company, so she’s spent her entire life striving to be as perfect as possible. James or Jimmy is nowhere near the level of society ELizabeth comes from. He struggles to put food on the table and keep a roof over his head, but he’s an honorable and good man with all kinds of rugged bad boy vibes that just revs ELizabeth’s motor. Hell, he can rev my motor anytime he’d want. *Le sigh* If only I could pluck him from the pages and mold him to be MY perfect man. I don’t think I’d change a thing. But that’s what ELizabeth comes to realize. The hoity toity life she’s been around all her life, doesn’t necessarily mean perfect. And for a woman who looks as perfect and put together as she does, her insecurities are few and run quite deep. The characters shared an immense connection from the start and their story only outlined and demonstrated that no matter what side of town you live on or how much money we have in the bank, mo one is perfect. We can only strive to find the person that is perfect for us. I just adored this book!

I truly enjoy books by Katy Evans and Million Dollar Devil is no exception. This book had angst, drama, an under dog, and everything in between! Lizzy is the heiress to Banks LTD. Trying to prove to her father she can take over the business when he steps down, and she just needs his approval. She needs to find the "perfect" face for their new menswear line, and she finds the most unlikely person in James. Daredevil YouTuber from the wrong side of the tracks. She hires him, ignoring the pull she has towards him, and does everything she can to make him into the perfect man, what could go wrong, right? What I really enjoyed about this book was how James really pushed Lizzy beyond her limits. She knew her father would disapprove of James, but the closer she got to him the more she couldn't stay away. She tried so hard to fight everything going on with them, but James wouldn't back down. I loved how hard James pushed Lizzy in this book, and yet for the most part stayed true to himself. He did everything to help his little brother, and also because he wanted to help Lizzy succeed too. The back and forth between these two is hot, I laughed out loud multiple times in this book with the things that transpired between them.  These two are the definition of opposites attract and I loved this about this story, the part that docked this book from being a five star read, was how they both handled things when things went bad for them. They both handled things so poorly that it made me want to throw my Kindle an scream and lose respect for both of them. I adored these characters and then I lost a little bit of respect for them after that and I was like NO! Thankfully they redeemed themselves in the most amazing way.I did read this book in one sitting, and truly adored the story that Katy Evans had to tell us. If you love opposites attract stories, then Million Dollar Devil is one that you should definitely consider one-clicking today!

I'm at 18% and this is DUMB, but also hot, so I will keep reading. But as far as premises go, super dumb.

Elizabeth needs a guy to be the model for a menswear line. She finds one at a bar, and asks him to come with her to discuss business (of course he thinks she's propositioning him). He follows her outside, he follows her into her car service, he follows her into her building, he takes a shower because she tells him to, he falls asleep (naked) on her couch while waiting for her to check on something -- and she STILL hasn't told him she's only looking for a model. Right now, at 18%, Elizabeth can't spit out the most basic sentences and apparently gets drunk off her @ss from 4 shots of tequila, and James is enough of a hot and curious horn dog to allow himself to get strung along for 12 hours. Eye roll.

100% finished - final thoughts: 3 begrudging stars.

First of all, Elizabeth doesn't have the chops to be the CEO of her father's menswear company. Her business sense is not on display in this story (see above, she can't spit out a simple business proposition). I'm not sure WHAT she does at this company, but babysitting the newest "face" is not what a CEO-contender does. Someone in marketing does that. Someone in wardrobe does that. The premise of this entire book super questionable to me (but hey, it's a romance, don't overthink it, right?). That's not why Elizabeth sucks, though.

Lizzy sucks because the first chance she gets truly tested (by miscommunication and lack of communication, my LEAST FAVORITE plot devices) she turns to alcohol, and she has the most heinous public melt down I've ever seen in a book. She says things and acts in ways that showcase her immaturity and her lack of good judgement. I was APALLED that James just rolled with her punches in the big scene at the end (no spoilers). I would not have been so gracious. Frankly, I can't stand women who act this way - not in books, movies, or real life. GROW. UP.

Also, I got the impression early in the book that James was a total alpha male, take-charge, smoking-hot, charismatic kind of guy. But, as the book progressed, my impression of him changed. The alpha male was replaced by a less-alpha, less take-charge, younger-feeling guy. I still liked him, he was super nice! But the dark sensuality that tied up Lizzy's IQ points in the beginning of the book had melted away (for me) by the end.

So why 3 stars? It's well written, there weren't too many typos or formatting errors, and the chemistry/tension between the characters was HOT. The intimate scenes were OK, but the build up was better. The plot was interesting and the book would have scored higher if (1) it could be edited down by about 15%-20%; and (2) Lizzy wasn't such an idiot (it should NOT take 12 hours to tell a guy what your business proposal is FFS).

Other reviewers seem to be struggling with this author as well. Quite a few mentioned that this author's recent books have been suffering compared to older ones. Not sure if I'll give her a second chance. I'll definitely check on the reviews before taking any other plunges.

Bad isn’t even enough to describe it. Just not worth it. The plot, the ending, the entire in between story.

I totally loved James and Lizzie’s story. A great pace and storyline that kept me focused on the lead characters. Some laugh out loud moments. This is my first Katy Evan’s story.. and adding her to my growing collection.
