Mistletoe Kiss: A Sweet Christmas Novella Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 40 ratings

Bridget used to believe in things like fairytales and the magic of Christmas. Since her dad’s death and the string of bad luck that followed, it’s been a struggle to stay positive, let alone get in the holiday spirit. The bright spots in her life are her mom, her best friend Ivy, and her job. Oh, and David. He doesn’t count, though, because he’s Bridget’s boss, and despite having a secret crush on him for the last three years, he’s off limits.

But then a few weeks before Christmas, David calls Bridget into his office and asks her for a favor: he needs a plus one to the company’s fancy festive ball and wants her to accompany him. Maybe it’s time for Bridget to start believing in fairytales and Christmas magic again...

Marie Landry lives and writes in a cozy apartment in Ontario, Canada, surrounded by books and Funko Pops. An avid reader from a young age, she loves getting lost in characters’ worlds, whether they’re of her own making or someone else’s. She particularly loves stories with as much of an emphasis on self-discovery and friendship as on romance...but don’t leave out the romance!

When not doing bookish things, you can often find her taking pictures, cooking, scrolling Instagram (find her at @marielandry.author), daydreaming about frolicking through the Scottish Highlands, or listening to the same music she's loved since the '90s. She's an unapologetic nerd and fangirl, and that, along with her mental health advocacy, is often woven into her books.

This is an adorably sweet story that will brighten your mood and put you in the mood for the holidays. Marie put a lot of heart into this, and it shows with every word. Wonderful prose weaves with vivid imagery and brings the story to life. It has some tones of Cinderella feel to it, which is something mentioned by the main character, Bridget a few times, but it is a lovely story. Dreamy, swoony characters that have chemistry that leap off of the pages.

She is a very relatable character, and so are all of the people in her world. Step away from the craziness of the world we live in, and enjoy a little Mistletoe Kiss this holiday season! You'll be happy you did!

Bridget has struggled coping first with the death of her father and then helping her mother recover from a heart attack. She loves her work and isn’t concerned about spending long hours since she has little inclination to be with anyone other than her mother and best friend, Ivy.

Bridget has had a crush on her boss, David, but has tried to ignore her feelings since they work together and it would be improper. She is surprised when she is not given her Christmas bonus check but instead is summoned to David’s office. She gets a bigger surprise when he invites her to an elegant night out.

Bridget agrees to go and begins to discover Christmas magic as she experiences a Cinderella, enchanted evening of dinner and dancing with David. But how can things between them change as long as he is her boss?

Bridget is strong and sensitive and doesn’t realize how lovely she is. David is British, handsome, a gentleman and a good boss. There is not great conflict in the story – other than Bridget getting beyond her grief and insecurities. The work situation is the big obstacle and I liked how the author resolved that situation.

The writing and editing was cleaner than a lot of ARCs I have read lately. The Mistletoe Kiss has an extra meaning which is fun. This is a quick, easy read with pleasant characters. It was a good introduction to the author and I would be glad to read more stories by her.

I received this ARC from the author through #hohohorat and was pleased to read it as one of my Readathon titles. My rating 4.5.

A well-written and sweet quick read. I adored reading this story. David is so kind and handsome (and British!). Bridget was relatable (honestly reminded me a bit of myself). I only wished the story was a tad bit longer because I wanted to read more of the characters together.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely festive fairytale!

I've been a fan of Marie Landry's work for years now, and I was so excited when I heard she had a new book out this Christmas - and it was totally woth the wait! This is an absolutely gorgeous festive fairytale about Bridget, a woman who is so concerned with making other people happy that she often forgets about her own happiness. This is an utterly lovely story to escape real life with for a few hours, something I desperately needed at the moment. David was a gorgeous hero and it was easy to see what Bridget (and the rest of the office!) saw in him!

Overall, I highly recommend this absolutely gorgeous and swoonworthy festive romance - it left me with a happy sigh, a huge smile on my face, and an extra bit of belief in Christmas magic!
