Cuffing Season Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,351 ratings

Maeve Murphy doesn't have much to celebrate this holiday season. Ten years ago, she moved from Kingsford with no intention of returning. But home came calling, in the form of her mother's unexpected death. The least thing Maeve wants is to make friends—she's only back in Kingsford to help her father keep the family business, Murph's, afloat.

Bianca Rossi, whose father is the chef at Murph’s, moved to Kingsford four years ago from the hustle and bustle of New York City. She loves everything about the charming little river town, and her positive attitude and willingness to engage is usually reciprocated by the Kingsford locals.

Maeve’s been resistant to Bianca’s attempts to strike up a friendship so far, but a little holiday magic may be just the thing they need to push them both in the right direction.

Cuffing Season is a 65k full-length standalone romance novel set in the world of Back in Your Arms.

The ending felt a little rushed and anticlimactic, but I'm not sure how I'd fix that as an editor. Overall I liked this book quite a bit, and getting to see Quinn and Sawyer again was fun, and well done in that it doesn't give away their story if you haven't read that book yet.
For this story, I liked that it was seasonal and holiday themed, but didn't have that typical Christmas novel timeline of meet cute around Thanksgiving and 100% resolution by Christmas. I liked that the story unfolded in a more believable amount of time, breaking the Christmas romance mold; it allowed for the relationship between the two main characters to grow in a really sweet and meaningful way. Not much angst here, although we do touch on the subject of grief, but it doesn't quite qualify as a main theme imo.
I did like the side characters, and felt the character development was well done all around.
The humor was well placed, I laughed out loud a few times, which is saying something because I'm usually a nod-and-smirk at funny parts type of person.
If your looking for a book to cozy up with some hot winter beverage to read, this is a decent pick.

This was a super cute sapphic holiday read! There was some cameos from the first book on this universe which is sweet and quite satisfying. Bianca and Maeve were great together, they had amazing chemistry.

After her mother passed away, Maeve returns home to help her father in his bar, Murph's, but has no intention of staying. However, Bianca, whose father is the chef there, loves everyone and everything about this town. Opposites do attract in this delightful story. This book is really character driven. Maeve is the curmudgeon who cannot express her feelings while Bianca is friendly and helpful to everyone. She even works at the vet's office with Kelly, the younger sister to Quinn, from book one Back in Your Arms. The secondary characters are great and the dialogue is wonderful. With undeniable chemistry, going from casual to long-term took a real leap of faith and a few pushes from their friends. What an enjoyable book!

    ****No Synopsis****
At the center of this inviting romance are two characters who captured my heart. Bianca is like Mary Poppins-practically perfect in every way. Her inner beauty carries this story. She’s steadfast, genuine, and loyal. Everyone in Kingsford is better off with Bianca in their lives. On the other hand, Maeve is a cute, yet grouchy curmudgeon. She’s far too young to be so weighed down by life’s disappointments. Like gaining the trust of a feral kitten, Bianca slowly shows Maeve what family, friendship, and community have to offer.
I rarely read low-angst romances, but Cuffing Season caught my attention. This book is all about the characters. Bianca and Maeve could’ve been in the middle of a desert and I’d have been enchanted watching them take such cautious and tentative steps toward finding their happily-ever-after. This romance added a little joy to my holiday season.

This lovely book written wonderfully by Monica McCallan, is so worth the read! I am just overly pleased with this story. The characters are believable and work off each other perfectly. The anxiety derived from loss, old issues in a small town and increased stress work against the leading ladies. Thankfully, this is a love story so she gets her girl finally in the end!

My first holiday read of the year, and I'm so glad it was this one!

Bianca and Maeve are so cute together. At first, it seemed like they were stand-offish with each other, but as they started to spend time together, they really hit it off. Throw in some home-town comfort, holiday fun, and good family and friends to make this story a great winter romance ❤️
  • Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2023
This is not your usual Christmas story, but a delightful character driven journey of growth and discovery for our main characters, Bianca and Maeve. Erroneous assumptions and misguided understandings are unveiled allowing various relationships to move forward, and clearer decisions to be made.

It was an enjoyable well written read with good character development showing the importance of family while giving contrast between the hustle and bustle of a big city and the community feel of a small town.

Yet for Maeve the big dreams she was chasing in NYC are still important so opening her heart to Bianca for anything other than a Cuffing Season seems out of the question. However, maybe even a small town can make room for big dreams while allowing for love.

Never really flowed well. I’m not sure I’ve read the word hips so much in my life. It was strung out waaaay too long and jumped about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nette Kleinstadtromanze ohne große Dramatik
Reviewed in Germany on March 28, 2022

After the success of 'back in your arms' you begin to think it doesn't get much better, but quite simply Monica McCallen achieved this with 'Cuffing season ' Not only do we get to learn more about Sawyer and Quinn but we meet 2 more characters from the same town that are so beautiful it hurts. With Maeve and Bianca you have a relationship that slowly blossoms into something more than just a love story as they traverse the emotional roller coaster of learning about each other. (wait till you get to Christmas Eve) Wow, do yourself a favour and buy this book and indulge yourself belive me, it will be worth it.
