REVIEWS:
"The spookiest treat for Halloween's right here. 178 pages of dark, twisted & mysterious goings on." - Jonathan Ross
"Toula Mavridou-Messer has one of the most creative minds I have ever come across. In fact, her imagination knows no bounds!"- LA Writers Center
"Just. WOW. What a unique book! I loved this! This was a horror book with a mystery and a twist!"- Word Forward
"For those who like their humor black, satirical and with a Gothic twist this is a must read. Tongue in cheek all the way, the book is written in a style that satirizes the very language of Victorian, Gothic horror, paying a backhanded 'homage' to Dickens, Poe, Stoker and the Grimm brothers with a large dash of Washington Irving's 'Sleepy Hollow' and the epic Beowulf, (Grendel's mother), thrown in. Gruesomely funny!"- Sara Salyers
"If you enjoy dark, but easy to read mysteries, I definitely recommend Mortal End: A Simmering Pit Of Jiggery Pokery by Toula Mavridou-Messer. This will be a great Halloween read!"- Ellen P. Lafleche-christian
"Mortal End brings together some of the best aspects of Grimm’s Fairy Tales mixed with larger than life characters in a Tim Burton-esq way and adds a dash of sexual content and some great humour all wrapped up in a fantastic writing style." - WJ Thompson

About the authors
Hi Everyone!
I am a multi-genre author because I am a multi-genre reader.
I love books and have piles of them in every room that are read, being read and to be read! Everything well-written gets my attention. My favourite books include:
The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
Running With Scissors by Augusten Burroughs
What Katy Did by Susan M. Coolidge
I have written all of my life, or at least from when I was able to hold a pencil. I started typing my first novel at the age of two (on a typewriter I was gifted by Santa) and just never looked back.
At the age of 12, I won a coveted Blue Peter badge for writing a script for the BBC's Grange Hill. The excitement at having my name announced on the show was one of the highlights of my life!
At 15, I was a regular gossip columnist for Gay News Magazine, alongside my lifelong friend (author and screenwriter) Jane Goldman, which started after we interviewed cute boys who were more interested in publicity than us (and gay)! It was a learning curve!
I also worked with a number of national UK newspapers and magazines, providing celebrity snippets - writing a regular column for MIZZ Magazine - as well as having Piers Morgan as a colleague during my brief stint at The Sun, when working with showbiz columnist Rick Sky.
At the ripe old age of 22, I came 2nd in a Write A Blockbuster competition for a national women’s magazine, after writing and submitting a story in the last few hours before the competition closed.
In my mid-twenties, I helped my aforementioned friend Jane Goldman with some research for her bestselling 'The X-Files Books of the Unexplained,' which was fun...and an eye-opener!
I was also a fundamental member of the team behind one of the UK's fastest-selling cookery books. It was a TV tie-in with the BBC's Challenge Anneka for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We sold over 250,000 copies almost instantly.
Apart from having a passion for writing, I also have an immense passion for photography (mostly nature/wildlife, and travel/landscape) and am proud to share that I am a Saatchi Artist of Recognition for photography.
Before I dedicated my life to creating books, I was a successful Celebrity Producer working on shows on both sides of the Atlantic, after many years running my own Celebrity and Entertainment PR firm, with clients including Eric Clapton, Dame Shirley Bassey and Yes.
Wishing you much enjoyment from reading books, whoever wrote them!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 14, 2014What a fun, deliciously dark tale. A quick read cleverly filled with mystery and humour that takes you into the underground world of Mortal End and it's bleak, devilish goings on. Toula has created some extraordinarily bizarre characters that keep you hooked in this intriguing whodunit. A good read.

Between the creative naming --- which reminded me of a cross between Charles Dickens and Monty Python --- enhanced by clever writing, I will definitely keep an eye out for future works by Ms. Mavridou-Messer.

What a unique book! I loved this! This was a horror book with a mystery and a twist!
There were a few story lines bouncing around in this book. Each could have had their own books because they were so good.
I wish I had counted how many OMGs! and WHATs?! Came out of my mouth as I was reading this. The setting is explained in such unique details that right from the start; I could feel the desolation and oddness of the town this story takes place in. That feeling stayed with me throughout the book, which added to the eeriness I felt while reading it.
If you are looking for something different and unexpected, you need to read this!

The tale of Hansel and Gretel will never be the same. Gruesomely funny!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2014Great read, the writer transports you on a fantasy journey of murder and mystery. Each scene was set with eloquent perfection if i shut my eyes i could feel myself in the moment. The character's with their extraordinary names and colourful appearance coming to life before my eyes. Well worth a read and ideal gift for Halloween

5.0 out of 5 stars How can you resist some jiggery pokery?
With a title like that, I was immediately hooked. I'm a huge fan of traditional - and what can be fairly bleak - fairy tales. This is Grimm in the best way - it's a strange and twisted murder mystery, with the best logical explanation for anyone to build a gingerbread house. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed this book immensely. Wonderfully Dickensian names, completely twisted logic, weirdly gorgeous descriptions - it's a totally bonkers dark fairy tale, with fantastic twists and turns and an unexpected ending. I am already looking forward to further jiggery pokery!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly told fairytale
What a super book!
I absolutely loved that the chapters were nice and short so you could dip in for a ten minute read when I only had that amount of time to spare. Great writing style too. The story came to life with fabulous descriptions and rather shockingly dark twists which I really enjoyed. Definitely going to read more from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a Trip to Mortal End you won't regret it...
What a delight this book was, like walking into a medieval painting. My imagination was taken for the ride of its life as descriptions of these gross and yet, for me, delightful characters, piled onto the pages, one after the other. Incredibly clever use of language which further enhanced the sense of being in another world. This is crime fiction like no other! Fairy tales for grown ups with just enough humour to see you through the dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fantastic read, Macabre and funny
This is a fantastic read, Macabre and funny, witty and clever, no long journey should be attempted without it! The writer couples rich and vivid language with a superb plot that keeps you guessing, perfect for Halloween!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!
I'm rarely able to read more than the first chapter of a book but Mortal End seems to have been written for people like me. It is delivered in bite size chapters which end almost as soon as they've begun; enticing me to 'just read one more chapter'. Easy to read and yet containing the largest collection of formerly unknown 'big words' I've ever encountered it's also suitable for the more book savvy. Despite it's subject matter it is light-hearted in it's delivery and the clever way the writer expresses herself is a joy to behold.
