Mortal Secrets: An Urban Fantasy Novel (Realms Unleashed: Red Angel Book 1) Kindle Edition
It's not exactly a glamorous job, but someone has to do it—the demons won’t, the angels don't care, and the Hunters have better things to do.
I don’t mind it—the less anyone pays me any attention, the better. Because if anyone in the paranormal world learns I’m the reincarnation of an ancient being who can end immortal lives, I’ll be the hunted instead of doing the hunting.
So, when rumors about my existence begin to circulate, I must cover up my tracks, no matter what.
Unfortunately, when you’re already scraping the bottom of the barrel, the only help you find comes from sources you probably don’t want. Like the magical black market, where backstabbing is more of a competitive sport than a hobby, or the sexy, infuriating nightmare that’s the angel Zel.
But when he offers me a deal that’ll keep me off everyone’s radar, how can I say no? All I have to do is help him find an obscure magical weapon. Easier said than done, especially since ending up in jail becomes a real possibility the longer we work together.
Turns out, murder is illegal, and I might just strangle him.
Delve into the fun, action-packed Urban Fantasy world of Realms Unleashed: Red Angel, filled with magic, banter, found family, plenty of mayhem, and a slow-burn romance.
For fans of Hailey Edwards and Annette Marie.

About the author

Isa Medina loves writing and reading Urban Fantasy books, playing MMORPGs, and scouring the Internet for pet pictures and beautiful art.
As a child, she was first introduced to the world of Fantasy through Dragonlance and she has never looked back. She also has a soft spot for Gothics and treasures all her old Victorian Holt paperbacks. If it has Fae, ghosts, vampires, demons, mythical creatures, or magic in it, she's all in.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2024Interesting twist on Angels and Demons. Ramon is being a prick and needs to get over it. The MC, Ana, has bad luck but you gotta give her points for spunk. The Red Angel has me intrigued. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2022WARNING: book-hook cliffhanger. That is the last page or so is setting up a new story plot.
Half Angel Ana has a secret, one that puts her life in danger.
When she discovers that people might just be after the secret, she enlists the help of full Angel Zel to help her find the truth before it finds her.
This is a complex urban fantasy, with a heroine with a secret identity… one that has caused her to live in virtual poverty, and at the mercy of others. It’s the possible revelation of that secret identity that drives this plot: Ana wants to keep it hidden, but she fears that some unscrupulous people might uncover it, and try to use her for their own ends. Into this comes an Angel with his own agenda, her best friend Sol (who has no idea of the secret), and an slew of others alternately helping or hindering her.
The world it is all set in is equally complicated, with a lot left to the imagination. Set in a post-apocalyptic setting, it’s not clear whether this is futuristic or alternate reality, either way it’s not contemporary, and the setup of the realms makes it clear.
All in all, this was an interesting read, with entertaining storylines, a few cackle worthy moments, and an enthralling overarching plot that ends with a small book-hook cliffhanger.
This one is good for those who enjoy post-apocalyptic type stories, especially those with angels and demons.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2022Half angel misfit whose angel-half is a coveted murder monster of epicness fails out of Demon Hunter corp and fails at her messenger jobs and fails to find info so thus stumbles her way into a (few) fae like "favors" she owes to a hot angel tag along, who wields power to irritate and occasionally protect when he's bored and it suits its sardonic fancy. She thus she needs to NOT fail bc of fate of the world and fate of her secrets etc etc.
Voice is great, urban adventure is super fun. I love angel/demon/human power flexes. Not a romance but I would argue if it turns into a enemies to lover in book 2 which comes out next month.
I will read the next for sure. Violence is there but not bad at all. A couple hearts ripped from Chests in a not described way (Kali Maaaahhh!)
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2024I read the entire book and still feel like I don’t have a good sense of the world, our MC or the supporting characters.
I’m also kind of confused on what’s going on and what I’m supposed to be caring about and watching for, but it’s also still interesting and so I guess I’ll keep going until I either can’t anymore or the series ends. But hopefully I’ll get a better of things as the series goes on.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2021I really enjoy Isa's writing style. I loved her Magical Artifacts Institute books. I liked the chemistry between Ana and Zel a lot, although there was one instance that really didn't make me feel very comfortable (therefore the lack of a star) which was when Zel threatened Ana. I think the story could have worked better without that instance in which she was really and truly scared, and he managed this through intimidation and by showing her his superior strength. Even though, as I previously said, it made me feel uncomfortable, it was only the one time and not a big enough issue to prevent me from really enjoying the rest of the book. I am counting the days until I can read the second installment of the story.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 30, 2024What fun trying to keep your life a secret! This was just way more entertaining and still complicated with her Issues. But what else can go wrong in her life with an angel, a demon, hunters and chaos too?

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely - very different concepts
This was a really lovely story - It is really original in its premise, and am really happy I gave it a go.
Easy to understand the world they live in, without the pages upon pages of explanations - learn as you go, which is awesome :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun and fast-paced entry into the world of Urban Fantasy.
I've read the wonderful talents of Isa Medina before with her upbeat Urban Fantasy, The Magical Artifacts Institute series of novellas. These books seriously reminded me of The Mummy films because they were fun of treasure hunting adventure and plenty of banter. Well, Medina is back with the start of a new Urban Fantasy series with a new fun and hopeless main character who dials the banter up to eleven.
Enter Ana Calliope Holt, a demon hunter who’s status among the demon hunters is rock bottom. She’s taking whatever dirty jobs she can get in order to pay the rent in a world where angels and demons are commonplace. But her life somehow magically gets worse when the hunter’s guild begin searching for a magical sword. The problem? Ana herself is the reincarnation of the Red Angel, a sword which can kill mortals and immortals alike. If anyone were to discover this secret, her life, as amazing as it is, would be over.
Cue shenanigans as Ana has to balance her life and secrets by attempting to cover her tracks. And unfortunately, this means enlisting the help of a handsome but unhelpful angel…
As with Medina’s last Urban Fantasy series, the Realms Unleashed: Red Angel series is going to be a slow burn on the old romance. I absolutely loved Zel the angel as part antagonist, part romantic interest, but I want more on the romance front. I’m definitely hoping for more in the sequels to come!
Medina has a fantastic sense of humour and this shows in her books through the banter between characters and the zany situations that Ana finds herself in. Ana herself is a sassy character who can take care of herself, but none of her sass comes across as overbearing or annoying. Her relationship with Zel was hilarious at times and touching at others. Zel himself is a fun angel with the personality of a cat, and I loved learning about how the demon and angel realms interacted with the mortal one, especially the role that summoners play in trapping their own demon and angel pets. I’m eager to read more of this dynamic in future books.
I also especially enjoyed the relationship between Ana and her best friend. It’s great to see two awesome women encouraging each other to commit crimes!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent series
Likable characters and an intriguing world combined with enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes. At times edgy, but not over the top, action and conundrums. Sufficiently different and complex to keep you interested, even engaged, in the outcomes of the various subplots and characters. Excellent storytelling for adults, highly recommend series.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read
Took a chance reading this and was glad I did as the blurb didn't do it justice. A half Angel with a secret that she'll do almost anything keep hidden is in a race to find a magical artefact before demons, angels, hunters and summoners get to it. A fast paced and action packed storyline that kept me hooked until the very end. Highly recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Angel, Hostile Hunters, Underworld Mayhem
Realms Unleashed is a fresh take on this angels and demons genre and is a darn good effort. I like the main protagonist, Ana, she is strong, determined, hiding a dark secret which is revealed half way through the story, and has fun quirks to her character - like living with demons. Ana, a failed hunter, starts off as a vermin catcher for the magic world and her life devolves shortly after that as the death of an information broker throws the magic world into chaos. Ana has a great bestie, magic abounds and an interesting storyline of hunting down angelic weapons in dark underworld markets.
I find the downtrodden Ana is heaped on a little too much and her love interest (I think) Zel, is too indifferent to Ana getting hurt or suffering, a bit disturbing in a romance, even if it is a slow burner. However, I will definitely be reading the second book and hope that Zel improves. This author has great potential.
