4.3 out of 5 stars 837 ratings

A bluestocking Lady…a stubborn Lord…each with their own tale. Can they find a path to happiness together?

Having enjoyed both a summer Season and Christmas time in London, Lady Maria is beginning to worry that she will not find a good match. Striking up a friendship with Lady Sophia, Lady Hayward’s daughter, they both agree that they will do all they can to assist each other in finding a husband. However, realizing that she must hide her bluestocking tendencies, Maria comes up with a falsehood, pretending that she is something she is not in the hope that this will finally encourage the gentlemen of the ton to court her.

Isaac, the Earl of Ridlington, has come to London for one specific purpose – to find himself a wife. But he has specific requirements which cannot be altered, and when he discovers that the daughter of a Duke might meet such requirements, he immediately finds himself considering her. Believing her to be everything he needs, Isaac is horrified to discover the truth. What is worse, he quickly realizes that he cares for her more than he expected. Dare he tell her the truth of his heart? Might they somehow find a way through the falsehoods and lies and towards a happiness that neither of them ever expected?

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

This era in history in our times is comical. So many strange ideas of life. Fears of past observations, trying to be something you are not. A story that tells me I am glad I was born to more modern times. Enjoyable tale!

A charming book about living life as it comes to us, even if it is not what we planned. An unconventional woman who reads, thinks and makes up her mind falls for a conventional man who is seeking an engagement with a typical empty headed, passive product of a shallow society. The crisis comes when she realizes she cannot live a life pretending to be what she is not and he has to decide to live according to his plan or accept the love he is offered. The characters are well drawn, the pacing is slow enough to give a clear picture but quick enough to keep boredom at bay. This is a squeaky clean romance for those who prefer more ethereal love affairs.

Isaac can to.London with A definite list of items his bride must meet. Maria was in her 2nd season and had decided that in order to gain any man&s attention she must act the part of any foolish young woman who was looking for a groom.

I didn't feel a connection to this couple. The h deceives the H into believing she is only interested in painting, music and fashion. I understood her reasoning but wanted the author to show us her intelligence instead of telling us. Her character was flat for me.

The H had no qualities to like. Yes, I understood why he made the list, but his character was worse than the h. What I did enjoy was Lady Hayward and the H's friend. The friend was the voice of reason, but I had no idea why he was friends with the H. But, his words and Lady Hayward's made the story bearable, along with Lady Hayward's daughter.

This is a clean story, no romance, fast HEA when everything is out in the open, no cheating and no cliffhanger. (ljb)

A bluestocking that changes who she is to attract a man. Because of her love for him, she feels that she must tell the truth- that is a difficult situation but you will have to read the book to see what happens
    Thanks Rose!

Lady Maria is on her second season and she is starting to think that she will be the spinster aunt. Lady Sophia is helping Maria navigate the season, she needs to hide her bluestocking ways and other perceived short comings. Isaac is looking for a wife and does not want to love his wife and absolutely does not want a bluestocking. The more time he spends with Maria the more he is drawn to her. What will happen when he learns the truth, about Maria and about himself. This has wonderful characters with depth, and the story flowed and kept me engaged. I love regent romances.

Oh. My. Goodness. The story of Maria and Isaac is incredible! I loved it, Isaac with his list of requirements and Maria trying to be someone she’s not. Priceless! Throw into the mix her chaperone, Sophia, and Bradstock. Wow. I’m going to be so sad when this series is finished. I’ve been reading these books one after the other and have enjoyed every single one. I love, too, that they’re clean romances.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Regency story with a bit of a twist

It's a typical Regency story but with a slight twist to it. Lady Maria is in her 2nd season & is a blue stocking & so needs to hide her brains & knowledge from the men of the ton. She adopts a new persona to attract men. But is it what she really wants? Definitely worth a read.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very boring book

This is about as dull as a regency gets. Despite an interesting premise - a bluestocking pretending to be like all the other young ladies - there is little feel for the regency period, an awful lot of unnecessary repetition, little flair and absolutely no wit. The main characters mostly behave like complete idiots and speak as if they were addressing the most tedious of public meetings. Just no.

This was a nice story but soon I was reading the word "indeed" on nearly every page and sometimes twice in the same sentence! At that point I decided to highlight them on my kindle and counted 63 "indeed "s from then onwards. It quite put me off enjoying the story. Towards the end, when the main suitor was getting his act together I was able to read quicker without such distractions. I did enjoy it but less "indeeds" would have given it another *.
