The Moving House: A Prequel to Ghostland (Ghostland Trilogy) Kindle Edition
Garrote House has seen its share of blood. Since Christopher's ancestor Oliver Hedgewood built the house in the 1800s, many spirits have taken up residence in "the Moving House," including horror author Rex Garrote, who'd burned to death in his private library. Christopher Hedgewood and Sara Jane Amblin, inventor of the Recurrence Field, return to Garrote House one final time before it's relocated to Ghostland.
They've both witnessed its ghosts many times. But neither of them have come at night, when the Moving House's most dangerous hauntings come alive.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseKnowing that this story is a prequel to the book, I expected that it will have a cliffhanger at the end. But, what I didn't expect was it to be more facts than a story.
It starts well, with two people entering the haunted house. The house is moving, the walls, the furniture, the windows - everything changes its place and makes people living inside go mad and kill each other. Those two people are the owner and the researcher of the paranormal. The owner of the house got killed by a ghost and it looks like that researcher expected that.
The next thing we know is that the house is moving to a new place. No explanation for how ghosts can kill or anything.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI don't have a whole lot to say about this one. I'm reading this series via the omnibus edition and wasn't sure if I should start with this story or come back to it. And before you come at me, "But it's a prequel chronologically it comes first so it should be read first!!!" This is entirely untrue, sometimes- a lot of times you shouldn't visit a prequel until later because it can spoil things and that can really affect your reading experience.
Anyway, I decided to go ahead and start with this one- it's very short and a quick read and really feels like a prologue to the first Ghostland book. Not a very lot happens, but what does happen is impactful and really sets the stage for the story. I'm curious to see where this goes.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseKind of strange that they set it up this way instead of just having you download the sample to the book, but ok? Fun intro I guess,, definitely leaves you wanting to red the actual book.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am conflicted about this story. It's written in 2 parts. The 1st part starts out terrific with suspense then ends in a implausible way.
The 2nd part of this story involves moving this house. It starts suspenseful and stay that way until the end. I find the ending of this story far more realistic.
That is why I am giving it 4 stars. The stories are crafted beautifully.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWelcome to a sneak peek into the future main attraction for Ghostland, an amusement park that will do for ghosts what Jurassic Park did for dinosaurs.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA prequel to the Ghostland Trilogy, the Moving House is a very short, incredible read. This little paranormal gem is a great edge-of-your-seat horror. I am looking forward to reading the trilogy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a look inside...
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseShort and punchy, this serves as a great run up to the Ghostland novel (and i little reminder for the sequel).
Creepy and descriptive, the claustrophobia of the house takes hold
Dare you enter...

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun introduction to Ghostland!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA good intro/short taster of a read to entice you to delve into Ghostland, which I’ll be picking up next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and spooky
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe Moving House has been in Christopher's family for years but everybody dies there in mysterious and bloody circumstances, and the house itself seems to shift and move of its own accord. Is Christopher crazy for thinking it would make a good tourist attraction? And will he live to see his plan come to fruition?
A great prequel; I'll be looking to read the rest of the series as soon as possible.
