A different read for me.
I must admit this is not my usual kink to read but overall i found it interesting and Mikey and Callum's story was amazing with both being successful they knew that they had found it with each other.

    This story is great: well developed, kink positive, sex positive, romantic, characters who are supportive, and a HEA that is beautiful. But... this writing style is very stunted and feels more factual than romantic with flourishing descriptions of their lives (like setting the scenes of their world or describing each other in emotions rather than the factual. Ex. "large brown eyes" vs "pools of melted chocolate that revealed the depths of his desires").

    I connected with the characters but the lack of descriptive writing made it hard to believe the building desire of the romance between the characters themselves. Even their internal monologues lacked a distinct emotion as they were factual, "Michael felt sad." rather than describing how that sadness is affecting their life or their perceptions. Ex. "Self doubt washed over Michael leaving him questioning whether he deserved Callum's love." Plus this book needs a strong editor because there are a lot of plot inconsistencies and inexplicable scene jumps that brought me right out of the story because I had to flip back and see if I had missed something.

    The writing is bland to say the least, but the story alone will draw you through until the end. She just does not have that knack to paint a scene; telling a reader what is happening more than showing the reader.

    More of a 2.5 star read but I would be willing to try more of her writing since this is the first book I have read by JJ Harper.

    However, I’m a bit uncomfortable about some aspects of this particular kink. I can’t help thinking the company “Heavyload!” has a double meaning as it pertains to Mikey’s specific kink. Anywho, it’s an interesting composite of being a “Little” with a side of love. Rating: 3 1/2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️’s

Living in a world that will never be understood, but being brave enough to live that way. This relationship was funny, sweet and beautiful at its core.     My second foray into the Daddy/little genre. I must admit that I wasn't as pleased with this particular book as I was the first of this genre I read, mainly due to two significant factors.

    Firstly, I found the overuse of certain phrases, like "little man" and "seeing my handprints on your red ass" quite tiresome after the first dozen references. This may or may not be how characters in real life converse, and if so, I am glad not to be in that lifestyle. (Although the thought of someone catering to my every need and desire IS appealing!)

    Secondly, editing mistakes. UGH! Readers of my reviews know I absolutely despise editing errors. They interrupt an otherwise smooth reading experience for me and break my rhythm.

    As for the plot and characters, both were just "okay" for me. Mikey's character came off as excessively whiny a majority of the story and the decisions he makes show his lack of self-esteem and deep insecurities. Fortunately, about two-thirds of way into the plot, he begins to conquer these stumbling blocks with the help of his excellent and patient Daddy, Callum. The change is gradual and rewarding for both the reader and the character.

    Callum is a "nurture and care" type of Daddy who wants a "little" to dote on forever. This entails diapers, little boy clothes and lots of toys and rules. At first, Mikey fails miserably with the rules his Daddy establishes, forcing Callum to be extra patient and forgiving with him. Over time, Mikey adjusts and blooms into the perfect little Callum desires.

    The story reads quickly and has a HEA. I loved many aspects of this book, but more aspects turned me off than on. Thus, I had to give the rating I did. And believe me, I would have loved to rate it higher.

    I do recommend this book for those readers who do not obsess over the two things I did. At its heart, it's a wonderful tale of a relationship where both protagonists are determined to "make it work despite any and all obstacles."

    JJ Harper's writing is addictive. ABDL is not my kink, but I love this story anyway. The love between the two main characters is so strong and something I can't get enough of. It's so beautiful how they each find in each other the one person in all the world who suits them exactly perfectly.

    Not every book in this series is ABDL, but they do all fall under the umbrella of BDSM, and they are all bursting to the brim with love.

    Oh gosh – I’m blushing just thinking about this book, and let me tell you, it takes A LOT to make me blush. I do love a great Daddy book, but this was a different trope to the ones I have read before and it took me a while to get my head around the dynamic. Like a trooper, though, I persisted and once I’d gotten over my initial ‘oh okaaaaay’ moment, I was well invested, let me tell you!

    So, what’s all the fuss about, I hear you say. Don’t we all love a Daddy? Speaking for myself; yes, I very much enjoy that aspect of MM, and Callum was in essence, just the way I like them. Furry and fit with muscles and height – delicious. But the difference came with Michael. Another gorgeous boy, with a great job, independent wealth and the yearning to be looked after by an older, bigger man. All good so far. When Michael decides to go out to a club for men with different kinks, I wasn’t surprised because ‘many MM stories begin this way, but when he tells us he wished he’d worn his diaper, my mind went in all different kinds of directions. At this point, I groaned. How the hell could a man in a nappy be erotic? Wrong reaction people – wrong reaction! Because, oh my God, there is a very weird kind of fascination in witnessing how the ‘Daddy, Little’ dynamic works for Callum and Michael, and is absolutely, mind-blowingly, sexy!

    Michael wants to find a Daddy who can satisfy his craving to be treated as a Little. He finds comfort in living like a little boy as it takes away the stress of his everyday life. He has a high powered job and is a success in his field, yet in his downtime he just wants to play with his toys and have his Daddy look after him. He knows his ‘kink’ is extreme because he feels happiest when he is wearing his diaper, curled up with his binky in his crib. He knows it may seem weird to other people, but denied a father figure growing up, has only exacerbated his desire to be someone’s little boy. Callum is a Daddy through and through with the utmost desire to nurture and care for a Little of his own. He wants more than just scenes with a boy; he wants a Little for life. When they find each other, Michael and Callum cannot believe how luck y they are and fall instantly in love. Of course their journey is fraught with obstacles and insecurities and they have to find ways of overcoming the barriers that threaten to keep them apart.

    Oh, you may say now. that sounds so sweet. Ummm, no. No, no no… well not always. Because, there was also, you know, THE SEX. I don’t know what to say. You have to read the book – because diapers should not be sexy, but, oh my gawwwwwd…Whether as adults or in their dynamic, Michael and Callum; Mikey and Daddy – are H.O.T.

    For an utterly eye opening and gasp worthy read – My Kind of Man ticks all the boxes. Expand your mind and embrace the fact that there are all kinds of different, wonderful, relationships in this world, and you will really enjoy this book.

    I’m reading this series for the second time and I am remembering more and more of how much I enjoy it. The overall story arc is great as I love series like this where different characters keep showing up. I also love that it is so positive about different people liking different things. There are other people who try to put the characters and what they love down but then JJ Harper writes it so that they and we are left knowing in no uncertain terms that as long as it is Safe Sane and Consensual then it’s all good. I also like how she has her characters talk things through so often. That maybe makes it sound boring but it’s not, it’s a healthy part of any relationship and it’s great to see in any book, especially one that deals with topics like this series does.

    5 Stars for Audio, 4 Stars for story. I loved the narrative with this book as the vocals used brought the characters to life. I had prevoiusly read the early version for the author and liked it and thought I’d give the audio book a try as I love Mr Solon’s narration.
    My Kind Of Man is a soft romance that focuses on the Daddy and Little relationship between the characters in scenes. Both charactors POVs are used in the story with a good flow pace as they instantly make a connection right from the start of the book. This story focuses on the Daddy and Little relationship and I would’ve loved more of a balanced story for their lives to be included which is why I have given it a 4. A great ending for them both as they find their HEA finish.
