About the author

In the words that Robert Heinlein put so evocatively into the mouth of Lazarus Long: 'Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.' Having tried a number of different careers, before settling in the North-East of England with family, three dogs, cats and a small flock of rescued chickens, I now spend a lot of time in private and have very clean hands.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2020Yet another amazing chapter in the Fortune’s Fools series. Kahina Sarava and the Coalition forces amp up their pursuit of Jaz and Durban. Kahina devises another plot and with the guidance of her Future Data project believes she is infallible, though it seems to me that she may be losing her grip on reality. Her goal is to capture Durban at all costs, though it’s still unclear how she intends to use him. While Durban finally explains a portion his end game to Avilon, it’s obvious he is still holding back. So many twists to the story that it’s difficult to imagine Swift-Hook will conclude the series with just one more installment.
The world-building is rich with detail. The imagery and descriptions are stunningly clear. It isn’t just the main worlds of Central, Thuringen, and Temsevar, but even the small seemingly insignificant worlds are complex, teeming with life. All are unique in design with some lacking sufficient oxygen to breath and others too much or too little gravity. The detailing is well thought out and exquisitely portrayed. I loved every step taken. With this story nearly finished, I’m both excited to learn the outcome but dreading leaving these worlds behind. With so many lands yet to explore the stories could be endless. Great world, fantastic characters, and highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2020Could not put this penultimate book down.
Disparate threads are being woven together gently, yet sometimes with a savagery to the traveler, caught up in a current of unknown destination.
Looking forward to, yet dreading, the conclusion of this journey.
Well-played, Author Swifthook, well-played!
