Not Your Royal Christmas: A royal wedding romance (Not Your Royal Weddings) Kindle Edition
Seven years ago, Countess Annemarie married the man who would be king one day. Seven months ago, he died. But Christmas is Christmas, and she’s still a member of the Royal Family, so off she goes to Sandringham, where things are always the same. Apart from all those other Christmases, which haven’t been the same at all...
A story about how love and loyalty can sometimes be the same thing, and sometimes totally different. A story about loss and finding your place in the world. And also a story about a princess and a really hot nanny at Christmas.
NOT YOUR ROYAL CHRISTMAS is a between-the-numbers novella following NOT YOUR CINDERELLA and NOT YOUR PRINCE CHARMING.

About the author

I was born in the 1980s in Yorkshire and live in Essex, where I belong to a small pride of cats. I have a second cousin who made the Guinness Book of Records for brewing the world's strongest beer, and I once ran over myself with a Segway scooter. These two things are in no way related. I've worked in an airport, a lab, and various shops, but much prefer writing because me and mornings are definitely not the best of friends.
I sold my first book in 2005 and since then have published many award-winning paranormal and contemporary romances and light-hearted mysteries, including the popular Sophie Green series. My sci-fi action romance Max Seventeen won the Paranormal Romantic Novel of the Year from the Romantic Novelists Association in 2017. Under the pen name Cat Marsters I also had a successful career in erotic romance, winning an Epic award in 2010.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slow going
I unfortunately found this one a little hard going, less of a romance more of a self realisation book. Would love to have seen more of the romance between her and Laurie. I stimulate am enjoying the series though and it was nice seeing some more of the inter family politics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appealing characters
I've read and enjoyed all the books in this series: the author has created a milieu that parallels the actual monarchy closely, without slavishly imitating it, but with characters that one can actually care about.

5.0 out of 5 stars An alternative Christmas message you won't want to miss
A ridiculously adorable short Christmas story that perfectly complements the other Not Your Royal books but also makes sense as a standalone. I'd been secretly hoping Annmarie would get her own story but wasn't quite prepared for the turn it took. Cute, clever and Christmassy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely details about the Royal palaces and Royal Christmas traditions
This is a bite size little book (I read it in under two hours). It's the Christmas after Annemarie's husband Edward has died and Annemarie is trying to negotiate Christmas at Sandringham without him. She's still grieving and is keenly aware that as mother to the second in line to the throne (who is only five), she belongs to the British royal family, rather than her own Dutch family.
The story is told in a mixture of present day and flashback. It's very sweet.
The love interest is the nanny Laurie, who was Annemarie's best friend when she was growing up. It's never made clear whether Laurie is male or female. It would work in either case.
I liked the details about the Royal palaces and Royal Christmas traditions. I also liked the way Annemarie noticed things that were particularly British. There was at least one scene that made me tear up a little (I've already read Not Your Cinderella, so I know about Edward dying).
I've read all the others in the series and really enjoyed this one. The usual disclaimer - I know the author through the RNA. I'm genuinely a fan of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A forwards-backwards treat of a book
Kate Johnson is a very clever writer and 'Not Your Royal Christmas' is a real forwards-backwards treat of a book. I loved finding out more about Annemarie and her journey from the Dutch royal family to the British one. Splendid Christmassy novella.
